"To engage in stimulating discussions, meaningful volunteer work, and group advocacy to further the advancement of gender equity within all industries and sectors of our society."

Meet the Mission Team

I'm Holly Hoogstra and I'm quadruple majoring in Geography, Anthropology, Secondary Education (Math), and Psychology! This year in NGSC I have really enjoyed getting to go to all the in-person events and network with my fellow Mission Team and NGSC members. I'm passionate about gender equality because as a future teacher, specifically a STEM educator, I think it is so important to provide opportunities and advancement to all students. Gender equality is one step to an overall more just and fair society, and I am proud of my Mission Team for the work we have done this year towards this social mission.

I’m a sophomore majoring in Sports Science and Performance Programming with a minor in Nutrition of Healthy Living; I’m passionate about gender equity as I grew up playing male dominated sports and I have always wanted to help the next generation of female athletes grow in the game! This year I’ve learned what an impact I can make in the community around me and that no matter our backgrounds we can work together to help those in need.

Throughout my first year a part of NGSC, I have learned what it truly means to be a leader and how to work collaboratively with others.

I am passionate about gender equity because I want to do my part to make the world a better place for women.

My name is Genevieve Carlson. I’m majoring in fashion design. And NGSC has taught me about how important connections are. And how branching out to those people in the future will help me grow my career. Gender equality is important to me, because I grew up in the ballet industry. Where it was mostly directed by men, whilst the woman were in their shadows. And I knew from a young age that I wanted to change that.

Brianna is a student at Arizona State University completing her undergraduate degrees in Finance and Business Global Politics. She currently serves as a consultant for an Arizona-based nonprofit that supports local, underserved small business owners and is involved in several organizations within the W. P. Carey School of Business at ASU. In her free time, she loves to go camping and swimming with her friends. This year, she has explored organization behavioral dynamics through her NGSC Capstone course.

I am a business communication major and this year I learned about the process of design thinking and the importance of networking. I am passionate about gender equity because I believe it is a necessity for economic prosperity.

My name is Diana Ruelas, I am a current Junior pursuing a career in digital marketing for sports. I’ve learned about change currently going on around me and the program has helped me narrow down what I want to focus on in my future career. Being part of a great mission team that focuses on equality for every gender has inspired to pursue a career in the sports industry that I otherwise would’ve been too scared to pursue.

Hi! In 2022-2023 it was my honor to serve as mission team lead. As I graduate, I am forever grateful for what I have learned on my mission team and with the NGSC. I look forward to continuing my work in advancing gender equity.

We volunteered for the YWCA Phoenix. In doing so, we learned more about their mission and the problems facing women in our community right now.

We learned that women can not negotiate like men the same way and be succesful due to unfair bias, so we developed skills and tools to negotiate for the future.

We learned from our own members about the gender gap with women in sports. We learned about how far society has come in supporting women in sports and how much more needs to be done.

We learned about why women leave STEM and also what needs to be done to bring more women in STEM, why that it is important, and how our society can benefit from more women in STEM.

Partnered with other mission teams to promote women in STEM

Volunteered for the YWCA to make lunch bags for their "meals on wheels" program

Donate and volunteer with the YWCA. They have a national organization and regional chapters. You can make a difference in your local community!

Donate to Vital Voices to make a global impact. They fund and assist women in developing countries to become change makers and promote equity.

To stay current with the latest in the battle for gender equity our team listened to podcasts, read current articles, and watched documentaries.
