A pediatric dentist, however, has been uniquely trained to deal with children’s behavior and their special dental needs. In instances where the restorative dental needs are complex, a dentist trained in the specialty of prosthetic dentistry, may be consulted. If your family dentist feels this would be helpful, he or she will refer you to a prosthodontist. When contacting a dentist for the first time, ask whether he or she has had experience in treating patients affected by ectodermal dysplasias or is interested in treating people with special needs. One of the best ways to locate a dentist is to talk to families who have had good experiences and successful treatment.
