Page 1

Pastor Mayfield, family, friends, church members and all guests in attendance: welcome, welcome, welcome! Glory be to God! We are so happy and honored to be here today as we celebrate the Fourteenth Pastoral Anniversary of our Pastor Ike Mayfield, Jr. Let us take this opportunity to thank our Almighty God for the privilege He has given us to be alive and joined by each of you. The pastoral anniversary celebration only comes once per year and we are blessed to see it for the fourteenth year. The bible tells us that all things worketh for the good of those whom the Lord loves. Let us thank Him for the blessings that we have with our pastor. As we know, many looked forward to seeing this day but have not managed to do so, however we have managed. Praise God! Many of you can remember when our pastor joined our church fourteen years ago. Since then he has become part of us and we praise God and lift him up in prayer for that. He has been a blessing to each person who has been in his presence and you can witness that we have all been blessed by him. We thank God for giving us such a wonderful pastor, he always prays with and for us, he encourages us through our ups and our downs and above all he teaches us by words and deeds to always cling on to Jesus for the daily provision. The New St. Mark Baptist Church family are so happy that Pastor Mayfield has been with us this long. Let us always pray for him, for God to continue blessing him as He has promised in the Bible! Pastor as we mark this your fourteenth anniversary may you have good health so that we can celebrate again next year and the years to come. Thank you very much for your time and may God bless and keep you. Yours in Christ The New St. Mark Baptist Church Family

My brothers and sisters in Christ, I greet you in the Marvelous, Magnificent and Matchless name of Jesus Christ! God has truly been good to the New St. Mark Baptist Church. It is certainly a thrill working on this side of the Master’s Vineyard. We here at New St. Mark Baptist Church believe that the most important mission of the church is to “Bring Glory to the name of the Lord.” To our visitors, we express to you that this church is a soul winning station that seeks to win the lost and bring them to Christ. My prayer is that you will leave here not only fed spiritually, but that you will take this spiritual nourishment and feed others. And if by chance you do not have a church home, we invite you to consider New St. Mark Baptist Church as your place of worship. Again, thank you for sharing in our worship experience. With All Diligence, New St. Mark Baptist Church

Reverend Ike Mayfield, Jr. Pastor

LEADER:

I was glad when they said unto me; Let us go into the house of the Lord.

CONGREGATION: Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. LEADER:

Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together.

CONGREGATION: Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord. LEADER:

For there are set thrones of judgment – the thrones of the house of David.

CONGREGATION: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; they shall prosper that love thee. LEADER:

Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within they palaces.

CONGREGATION: For my brethren and companions’ sake I will now say; Peace be within thee. ALL:

Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good.

Pastor Mayfield is the son of the late Ike Mayfield, Sr. and Ruby Mayfield McCree, he was born on September 4th, the baby boy of three children including the late Deborah Lee Mayfield Williams and Darryl Mayfield. He has two sons, Isaiah Matthew Mayfield and Noble Watkins. Pastor Mayfield received his BA (Born Again) in 1965, at the Greater Evergreen Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Pastor Horace Brown, Jr., and was baptized on the Fourth Sunday in May 1965. As a child, Pastor Mayfield grew up in the church where he was affectionately called “Preacher” by Pastor Brown; and attests most of his accomplishments to the Blessings of God, by way of two God-fearing parents, Ike Sr. and Ruby Mayfield McCree, from whom he discovered two hobbies he still loves and regularly participates in: deer hunting and fishing (his mother could out fish any man). To wit he will tell you “I’m not a Sheep Stealer; but I am a Fisherman” – A Fisher of Men. Pastor Mayfield received his formative, college and Christian education from the following:

Johnson C. Lockett Elementary School Andrew J. Bell, Jr. High School John McDonogh Senior High School Dillard University of New Orleans, Louisiana The Paul S. Morton School of Ministry Union Baptist Theological College and Seminary Jefferson Parish Fire Department Academy LSU Fire and EMS Training Academy National Firefighters and Officers Training Academy, Emisburgh Maryland Pastor Mayfield is a retired Captain with the Jefferson Parish Fire Department after twenty-five years of service. He accepted his calling to the Gospel Ministry under the Distinctive Direction of the late Pastor Edward Samuel Terry, Sr., his father in the Gospel, at Evergreen Baptist Church in 1998. He was ordained by the Louisiana Freedman Ministry Baptist General Association on August 4, 1999. On July 11, 2003, God elevated the “Nappy-headed, Big-eyed Lil Boy from the Ninth Ward”; and Ike Mayfield, Jr. was installed as Pastor of The New St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church of New Orleans, Louisiana by The Louisiana Freedman Missionary Baptist General Association under the Presidency of the late, Dr. Benjamin Maxon, Jr., and the watchful eye of Pastor Terry. Pastor Mayfield is involved in numerous Ministerial & Civic Organizations, to name a few: The Ninth Ward Ministerial Alliance, Christian Ministers Union and Faith Based Consortium. He presently holds board seats with The Louisiana Freedman Missionary Baptist General

Association, The Micah Project of New Orleans, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, The Mayor’s Council on Drugs, Violence and Gun Reduction and The Pastor’s Conference of New Orleans. Because he endeavors to be effective in his teaching and preaching, every Monday evening you will find him here at New St. Mark studying with the Berea Fellowship which consists of other pastors and preachers. Because he is so passionate about God’s Word and wanting to become more effective in his preaching and teaching, he regularly attends the WHW Expository Preaching Conference in Los Angeles, California. Under Pastor Mayfield’s leadership here at New St. Mark, many ministries have been birthed: Feed the Hungry, Service at the New Orleans Mission, Marriage Ministry, Lost Coins Ministry, Search and Rescue, Youth Ministry, Bi-weekly Faith Walk, Evangelism, Crossfire Music School, the Media Ministry and a newsletter simply titled “NSM News”. He made history by training and ordaining New St. Mark Baptist Church’s first two ordained Deacons. In 2016 he birthed a new ministry called Pure Phloetry as an outlet for young adults and adults to express themselves through respectful poetry, prose, vocal, instrumental and performance art, while in a relaxed environment. Pastor Mayfield has a heart for God’s people and as proof of that, during the approaching of Hurricane Katrina he refused to leave the city until every member was accounted for even leaving the city with two van loads of those who didn’t have transportation out of harm’s way. After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, Pastor Mayfield returned to the city and got to work immediately checking on all members and beginning the process of restoring the church house in which we now worship and even operating a food and clothes giveaway from the Vernon S. Joshua Activity Center for those in need. During that time there were several churches that were left without a place to worship and he readily and willingly opened the doors of New St. Mark Baptist Church, to name a few: St. John Divine Baptist Church, Second King Solomon Baptist Church, New Inspirational Baptist Church and Jerusalem Baptist Church. Since becoming the Pastor, he has offered many babies back to Christ, married many couples, counseled couples, baptized 177, through his teaching and preaching many have come to Christ, and numerous have been restored back to the faith. Pastor Mayfield is a loving, kind, giving, caring, unselfish, fair, concerned, committed, humble and faithful Servant. However, in all this he is STERN! His YEAS are YEA and his NAYS are NAY. Pastor Mayfield believes in training and teaching of our young people, he lives by God’s Word that if we train them up in the way they should go, they will not depart from it. With all that being said, knowing Pastor Mayfield, none of these matters, the accolades, the affiliations, the positions – but what does matter is that God is Pleased and God gets the Glory, and he is doing the will of the Father and that his work is EFFECTIVE! EFFECTIVE IN THE WORD, WORK AND WITNESS FOR JESUS CHRIST.

Fourteen years have passed and we are thankful for the ever-keeping power of the Almighty God. As humanity’s problems mount, the call to “Make Christianity Relevant” grows more urgent each year. Pastor Ike Mayfield, Jr, today we salute you and wish God’s blessings upon you. Pastor Mayfield we pray that your scrutiny and guidance will lead New St. Mark Baptist Church onward and upward to higher heights. Remember the words of the songwriter: “To serve the present age, my calling to fulfill. Oh, may it all my powers engage to do my Master’s will.” Then, continue to fill our hearts with scripture: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” We thank God for you Pastor Mayfield and we appreciate you as you joyfully celebrate your fourteenth year… His Message Is My Mission!
