The council advocates for vital communities and a competitive region. It runs the regional bus system, collects and treats wastewater and manages water resources preservation, plans regional parks and administers funds that provide housing opportunities for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. The council serves a region encompassing 189 cities and townships and a population of 2.85 million. It is divided into 16 districts. The governor appoints a representative for each, as well as the council chairperson. The council’s website provides information about the region and regional services.
