Man gets 33 months for attacking woman It’s swift justice for a young man who tried t o su f fo c at e and stab his girlfriend who was trying to leave him. Clarence Joseph Gi l l Clarence J r. , 2 0 , w a s Gill, Jr. sentenced in Scott County District Court March 7 to 33 months in prison by Judge Rex Stacey for a November attack at the couple’s residence in Shakopee. He pleaded guilty to felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon while two other charges were dismissed. Gill’s girlfriend was on the phone with a women’s shelter on Nov. 28, trying to get him removed from her home, when Gill came home early from work mad, having been unable to reach her on the phone. He entered the locked house through a window. Gill threatened the woman with a large kitchen knife and held a bleach-smothered hat to her mouth, according to court documents. He also attempted suffocating her with pillows, and made stabbing motions at her, instead stabbing a nearby couch. The woman managed to end the attack when she wrestled

the knife away and swung it at Gill, penetrating his back deep enough to lacerate his kidney.

Man charged with possessing child porn Zachary Andrew Bruder, 31, of Shakopee has been charged with two felony counts of child pornography possession. In April, undercover officers with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force used peer-to-peer computer software to determine that someone, later identified as Bruder, had 69 files of suspected child pornography. The files include video of a toddler girl performing a sex act on a man. In July, Shakopee police detectives executed a search warrant at Bruder’s boarding house on the 600 block of Jackson Street South. Bruder admitted downloading chi ld por nog raphy out of “curiosity” and watching videos of 4- to 5-year-old girls engaged in sexual activity with adult males, according to the criminal complaint. He told detectives the youngest child he viewed was 2 years old. Files from Bruder’s computer were identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to include video from four series of known child victims.

Comments taken on interchange Anyone interested in reviewing and commenting on the Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the proposed Highway 169/County Road 69 interchange project in Shakopee can do so starting Monday, March 19 through Wednesday, April 18. The EAW includes information on environmental effects of the project including potentially contaminated properties, storm-water quality and quantity, and traffic noise. The project as proposed will replace the existing at-grade Highway 169/County Road 69 intersection near Shakopee with a full access, grade-separated “folded diamond” interchange with a loop in the southeast quadrant and a bridge spanning County Road 69 over Highway 169. County Road 69 will be reconstructed as a fourlane divided roadway between approximately Colburn Drive and 115th Street. The project also includes a storm-water pond and filtration, a proposed 20-foot-high noise barrier on the north side of County Road 69 along the Stone Meadow Townhome development, and a

multiuse trail along both sides of County Road 69. Copies of the EAW will be available for public review on the project’s web site www. scottcounty69and169.com/ and at the following locations:  Scott County Government Center, 200 Fourth Ave. W., Shakopee.  Shakopee City Hall, 129 Holmes St. S., Shakopee.  MnDOT Metro Office, 1500 W. County Road B2, Roseville.  Shakopee Public Library, 235 Lewis St. S.  Comments on the EAW can be sent by letter to: Rick Dalton, MnDOT Environmental Coordinator, 1500 West County Road B2, Mailstop 050, Roseville, MN 55113. Comments may also be emailed to richard.dalton@ state.mn.us.

Couple guilty in limo driver assault BY SHANNON FIECKE sfiecke@swpub.com

A Shakopee couple, who authorities say helped beat up their driver last November after he told one of them not to smoke in a limousine, has pleaded guilty in the downtown Minneapolis assault. Elizabeth Tasinnasapewin Brewer, 24, and Chevis James Miller, 25, were originally charged with felony thirddegree assault, but pleaded guilty Feb. 14 to a lesser grossmisdemeanor charge of stalking. They are each out on $60,000 bond and will be sen-

tenced April 3 in Hennepin County District Court. The pair (who share an address) was actually part of a group of four involved in the assault, but the two were identified as regulars at Downtown Cabaret by security guards, including one who used to be their concierge for the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community reservation, according to criminal complaints. A limo driver was flagged down at 2:30 a.m. to give the intoxicated group a ride after the four were kicked out of the strip club for being dis-

orderly. A drunken Miller got into the front seat, grabbed the driver’s lighter and was told he couldn’t smoke in the limo. The group became verbally agressive, so the limo driver got out and told them to leave. He was hit in the head and then jumped and repeatedly punched by the entire group, the driver later told police. Brewer scratched the driver’s eyes and face until being pulled off by a security guard, witnesses said. The group left in a taxi. The driver, who showed up at the police station with

facial cuts and a swollen eye, drove himself to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with an orbital bone fracture of his right eye and facial contusions and abrasions. Miller, whom a security guard heard say, “I cracked him one,” told detectives the driver aggressively removed him from the vehicle and he probably then hit the driver in his chest or face. Brewer, who cou ld only remember some other events of the night, did not recall being at the Downtown Cabaret Club or involved in a physical altercation.

Vise-throwing suspect arrested here BY SHANNON FIECKE sfiecke@swpub.com

Gerret Parks

Scott County deputies arrested the Bloomington vise-throwing suspect, Gerret Parks, at his sister’s home in New Prague on Wednesday last week. Parks, who was accused of throwing objects at vehicles in Bloomington, was delivered to the Bloomington Police Department and booked into the Hennepin County Jail,

according to Scott County Sheriff’s staff. Parks had been at-large since charged the previous day with “throwing objects ranging from a box of baking soda to gallon water jugs and something resembling an anvil” along Normandale Boulevard in Bloomington this winter, reported the Star Tribune. On Sunday, Parks posted bail in Hennepin County, before he was charged. That night, Parks was

arrested in Polk County, Wis., for suspected drunken driving and fighting with police. He was bailed out of jail the next day. According to Minnesota Public Radio, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Parks’ arrest for further charges in the highway throwing incidents. Parks surrendered peacefully at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night in New Prague, Scott County Sheriff Kevin Studnicka told the Star Tribune.

Mom is charged with malicious punishment Iris Christina Graham, a 27-year-old Shakopee mother of four, has been charged with two felony counts of malicious punishment of a child, including one count for having a recent domestic abuse conviction. In late January, a child protection worker interviewed Graham’s elementary schoolaged daughter, who came to school with a small bruise under her left eye, swollen cheek bone and scratches on

her cheek, neck and arm. According to court documents, the girl said her mother assaulted her because she went shopping the night before when Graham wasn’t home. The girl received permission from her grandmother to go, but when Graham returned and found her daughter missing, she called police. After police left, the girl alleges Graham punched her in the eye and nose, pressed her

hands around the girl’s throat and tore her shirt collar. Later, Graham apologized and said “pinky swear I will never do this again,” the girl recounted. The girl said her mother only reluctantly let her attend school the next morning and told her not to talk to anyone about what happened. A Scott County child protection official previously counseled the family, but Graham

continued to spank her and younger sib-lings with belts, the girl said. Graham initially told police her daughter was “scratched by a cat,” but then cried and said, “Yeah, things got out of control last night. I get mad at her when she doesn’t follow rules. I won’t get mad at her again.” Graham is on probation for a May 2011 conviction of misdemeanor domestic assault in Hennepin County.
