nesota, where he will practice criminal law, the same field that his father Sam McCloud practiced before going to jail last July,” wrote Ric. A computer professional and stand-up comedian who now lives in St. Paul, Ric graced the cover of the Shakopee Valley News a few years ago for the horror movie he filmed on his father’s former hobby farm near Marystown. Ric performs the next couple weekends at Scott Hansen’s Comedy Gallery at Welsch’s Big Ten Tavern, 4703 Highway 10 in Arden Hills. He will appear at 8 p.m. shows March 9 and 10. Find more info at www. comedygallery.com. Ric says his dad’s work inspired him to go to law school: “My dad was one of the best criminal defense attorneys in the Midwest. ... I might make people laugh and feel better for a while, but my dad was helping people with big problems that had lifelong consequences.” But he also notes the “fall from grace” of Sam McCloud, a colorful, well-known criminal defense attorney who admitted to tax evasion in 2011. “Dad had five dependent children living with him at the time and he was trying to save his house from foreclosure. However, he went about it in the worst way possible, got in trouble and lost the house anyway,” Ric says. “What my dad did was wrong, there’s no doubt about that. But what I admired about him was that he owned up to his mistake right away and was truly sorry for his actions. It was a bad situation of his own creation, but he stepped up and took responsibility.” I Er ik J. Jacobson, a 1995 Shakopee High School graduate, and his wife Kristi attended the White House’s “A Nation’s Gratitude” dinner to honor veterans of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn Feb. 29. He was one of 78 service members invited to the dinner. He represented the state of Nevada and Creech Air Force Base.
