Military News Colin Howgill, Chairman MFST presenting check to 1st Sergeants Council.

MFST and MOAA Present Donations

The Military Family Support Trust (MFST) and the Military Officers of America Association (MOAA) each presented a $1000 donation to Kelly Kowall, founder of My Warrior’s Place (MWP) in Ruskin. In addition, MFST gave the MacDill 1st Sergeants Council $3,500 and MOAA gave the council $1000. The goal of MWP is to honor, support and promote healing of the mind and spirit in a relaxed environment out on the water at no cost to that “individual.” MWP is supported through donations. The staff are all volunteers. For more information, visit www.mywarriorsplace. org. MFST beneficiaries also include but are not limited to four year scholarships for high school seniors; JROTC Honors Program; Homeless Women Veterans; Veteran Guide Dog; South Eastern Guide Dogs Paws for Patriots program; Operation Helping Hand and guardians for Honor Flights. MOWW Sponsors YLC Awards Ceremony

The Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) recently held a special Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) Recognition and Special Awards Program honoring high school students from eight area high schools. The affair was held at the Sun City Center Renaissance Club on October 17, 2019. The schools involved in the YLC program were East Bay; Lennard; Riverview; Spoto; Newsome; Durant; Steinbrenner and Plant City. The Military Family Support Trust MFST is also a participator and contributor in the YLC program. LTC Charley Conover (Ret), Commander of the MOWW local chapter coordinated and emceed the event. Special MOWW Patrick Henry Awards were presented to Donovyn Edwards, Bloomingdale High School; Reva Goldberg, Brandon High School; Madeline Mauzy, Newsome High School; Christian Mejica Jr., Brandon High School; Erin Rankin, Bloomingdale High School; and Evelyn Staubitz, Riverview High School. Madeline Mauzy was selected by the conference judges to be the 2019 Outstanding Conference Student. LTC Bob Russell presented her with a Youth Leadership Foundation Plaque and Colin Howgill, chairman of the Military Family Support Trust presented her with a $250 check.

MFST Presents Donation to LifePath Hospice House

By Frank Kepley, CAPT USN (Ret.) The Military Family Support Trust (MFST) recently presented LifePath Hospice House, Ruskin, Florida an annual donation of $2,000. The donation was presented at the LifePath facility on October 24, 2019 for the exceptional respect and attention they provide veterans during their stay at the facility.

US Coast Guard Auxiliary Receives Commendation

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 75, Apollo Beach, received the US Coast Guard Unit Commendation at their fourth Thursday October monthly meeting from the Commandant of The award was given to Flotillas in the Seventh and Eighth Districts, which includes the Tampa Bay area. The citation reads: “For exceptionally meritorious service from June 24, 2014 to June 23, 2019 while providing extraordinary levels of public service and support to the US Coast Guard.” The citation also indicates that during Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, the Auxiliary “provided over 19,000 hours of vital support to the Seventh and Eighth Coast Guard Districts…. [T]he Auxiliary also conducted over 977,000 vessel safety checks and marine dealer visits. [They] delivered over 133,000 hours of boating safety courses, logged nearly 17 million hours of support, saved over 700 lives, assisted over 19,700 boaters in distress, [and] prevented the loss of more than $101 million in property.
