‘THESE MEN DID GREAT THINGS FOR BURLINGTON’– That’s what parade co-announcer Willis Colson said of the men riding in this wagon. They are the only charter members of the Burlington Lion’s Club still living. The club began in 1965. At front left is lifelong Burlington resident Bob Kraft who served the club as secretary/treasurer 50 years and continues to be an active member. Beside him is L.E. Castle of Jet who was the vo-ag instructor and FFA advisor at Burlington 18 years. In middle is Frank Banard who was Burlington’s Church of Christ minister eight years and is now in Green Forest, Ark. At back left is lifelong Burlington man Jake Somerholder who was Co-op Manager 33 years. Beside him is Dan Ackerman of Meade, Kan., who served the Co-op as manager 20 years. Longtime Burlington farmer Sam Schurter pulled the antique buckboard (given to the Lion’s Club by the Neff family) of men with his 1956 John Deere 50 tractor. Photo by Yvonne Miller

At left: Burlington Class of 1982 grads Leysa (Clepper) Diel (driving) and Tamara (Ryel) Goekin, who were BHS cheerleaders, give a shout out for their beloved Elks as they drive through the parade with their 30 year-old pom-poms on the back of the red convertible. Photo by Yvonne Miller
