“I’ve crossed a state or two. I’m from New York and I went to Maine to get lobster. It was about a fivehour [trip].”
“This restaurant is called Limon, and they have rotisserie chicken and this yellow sauce that is so highly addictive. … Everybody that I’ve taken to eat at Limon will drive for just lunch to the Bay Area, eat there and come back home. That’s how good it is.”
“I drove to Pacifica for a sandwich, from Sacramento. It was the Veggie on Dutch Crunch with everything on it from Colombo’s Deli. [It was] a two- or two-and-a-half hour drive.”
“I would probably say New York. I try and go twice a year and my favorite [restaurant] right now is Daniel … I normally go with the prix fixe menu, whatever that may be, whatever is in season. … [The last time] it was wagyu beef, if I remember correctly.”
“I recently went to New Orleans to get authentic cajan and creole food, in particular the étouffée, which was very delicious. … I did go to Willie Mae’s for their chicken, which absolutely did not disappoint.”

ocated in the heart of Midtown in a renovated 1910 Craftsman, Kupros Craft House may feel just like home, but this place dishes up much more than your typical home-style grub. Kupros is relaxed and laid-back, but it takes its food seriously. When Kent Souza took over as executive chef about a year ago, he brought with him a fine dining flair that he’s using to elevate the pub standards that dominated the menu before. While still staying true to its brewpub roots, the new Kupros menu is constantly evolving with the seasons — featuring fresh and local ingredients, and thoughtful plating. The chef’s favorite? The pork belly, hands down, Souza says. The dish is slow braised in craft beer for five hours, fried and tossed in a honey sesame glaze then served on a bed of mustard-infused goat cheese with jalapeños, cilantro and pickled red onion. he Marketplace at Birdcage in Citrus Heights is the unlikely locale of the area’s latest mom-and-pop restaurant. Nestled between a slew of big-box stores is Armenian Grill House — a family affair that while unpresumptuous in décor, is rich in home-style fare that keeps guests coming back for more. Co-owned by the husband and wife duo Naz Salmanyan and Esther Muradyan, the restaurant pays tribute to the food they grew up eating in Armenia and the meals they shared with their families once they immigrated to the United States. If you haven’t tried Armenian food before, it’s comparable to Greek cuisine with Mediterranean flavors and similar cooking methods. Salmanyan and Muradyan say the most popular items are the dumplings, beef kabobs and Mediterranean rice. Enjoy them with complimentary warmed pita bread, house-made hummus, and a bottle of imported tarragon lemonade for a meal that’s abound with flavor and authenticity. Ω by brittany Wesely

ocated in the picturesque Historic Downtown Folsom District is Sutter Street Steakhouse — sister to popular Chico restaurant 5th Street Steakhouse. With a sprawling patio overlooking the Lake Natoma area, the restaurant boasts a rustic yet modern interior that provides an ideal background for a dining experience that harmonizes personalized, comfortable service with the finest quality food. Executive Chef Rich Veale says the meats, fish and produce are sourced from local purveyors. “We get a lot of non-red-meat eaters, which I take great pride in,” Veale says. “We have a raw fish bar

Signature creation Nicks Grill is very popular — a petite fillet with a stone-ground mustard sauce and crumbled blue cheese. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, try the molé. It’s a prime rib eye with a sweet and savory wet molé rub, served with cheddar mashed potatoes and barbecue-spiced onions. Pair it with a glass of Malbec and sunset on the patio for a romantic night off the grid. Ω

Made entirely of trimmings from the restaurant’s choice meats like rib eye and fillet, this mouth-watering burger eats more like a steak.
