A fabulous action-packed family holiday If you’re looking for the ultimate family holiday that will keep teenagers entertained as much as the toddlers then a vacation with Eurocamp to Camping Playa Montroig, in Miami Playa just outside Cambrils, Costa Dorada, Spain is a must.

We have been on many family holidays with different Camping/Mobile Home Specialists over the years, especially when our older children were younger, but our family holiday with Eurocamp to the magnificent Playa Montroig Resort was one of our best to date. With an eight year old and two teenagers (14 & 17) to keep happy we thought it would be difficult to find a site that would give all our kids the holiday of a lifetime but Camping Playa Montroig met that challenge head on. All our three children, and ourselves of course, had a ball! This impeccably manicured and professionally managed site is located on a beautiful tree lined sandy beach, has a superb pool complex, as well as a vast array of sporting and gymnasium

facilities which offer activities such as cycling, tennis, crazy golf and water sports. There is also a fantastic kids club with excellent staff for the younger children if you are looking for a few quality hours to yourself. If food is your holiday passion then Playa Montroig is heaven. There are so many options available it’s hard to know where to start. Playa Montroig Resort offers everything from a top quality carry out Pizzeria to fine dining. The facilities include the superb Terrassa Restaurant and Espai Cocktail Bar, The Grill Restaurant where the steaks are fantastic, the Ice Cream Parlour and the must-experience beachfront Tropical Bar where the desserts are amazing. Just off site further up the beach there is a lovely great value Dutch-owned restaurant aptly

named ‘Friends’ where the food, staff and seafront ambience ensure one of the dining highlights of your holiday. But if you fancy cooking yourself, the complex has a top quality supermarket area with excellent butchers for the barbecues as well as a superb home bakery. It also has a well-stocked wine-mart with an array of wines, beers and spirits if you fancy having a tipple on the decking outside your mobile home. The supermarket can be slightly more expensive than the larger supermarkets in the neighbouring towns but we discovered that the difference didn’t merit the hassle of leaving the site. But what set Playa Montroig apart for us is the range of great facilities for our teenage children that meant they mixed easily with teenagers from all over Europe and made friends quickly.

There is a nightly Pai Pai Disco for the younger teenagers that my daughter enjoyed most evenings with her new friends and the Espai Disco Lounge for the older teenagers that goes on to the early hours of the morning. My son enjoyed it most nights we were there. At first we were a bit unsure of the young continental club culture but we soon discovered that our teenagers were in very safe hands. The security on this site is second to none, to such an extent that security guards walk the teenagers back to their area of the site every night after they have had their fun. I can’t recommend this site highly enough for families with teenagers. There is also a fantastic stage setting in the main entertainment area of the complex offering superb family entertainment every night and our

CAMPING PLAYA MONTROIG IN CAMBRILS IS A GREAT VACATION DESTINATION

where toddlers to teenagers have a ball! youngest child really enjoyed the nightly shows. The site is large but everything is within walking distance, however I would recommend hiring bikes for the duration as it means you have swift access to all areas of the complex that is very safe for cyclists of all ages. There is a railway line that runs through the middle of the site but is it tree-lined and completely fenced off and to be honest I don’t think we noticed a train passing the whole time we were there. We spent 10 nights at this wonderful complex with Eurocamp from July 19-29 and we opted for the 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom air conditioned Esprit Mobile Home. Our home for those 10 nights was very clean, modern and functional. The covered decking at the front of the mobile home was an excellent addition and a great bonus feature with Eurocamp as was the barbecue that we enjoyed on the nights we opted for a quieter evening after a day’s

Eurocamp’s staff are very helpful and were based just around the corner from us to help with any questions and to offer advice on the best way to make the most of our holiday. It is recommended that you hire a car if staying at this site but we decided not to as we had stayed in the neighbouring Cambrils a few years earlier and knew the area quite well. There is an excellent bus service at the gate of the site that takes you into Cambrils in 15 minutes and from there you can hop on a bus or a train to Barcelona for a great day trip, visit the ancient Roman town of Tarragona or venture up to the holy site of Montserrat. This is a fabulous area for a family holiday. There is so much to do on and off site. If you get bored here it’s your own fault. Cambrills is a fabulous area and I would

recommend a visit to the old town known as Cambrils Port. This is the first stop coming into the town on public transport from Playa Montroig. The bus drops you off in the evening and you can meander around the fabulous shops or enjoy a meal at the multitude of quaint and keenly priced restaurants along the seafront. It really is a relaxing experience where you can enjoy a drink or a meal and watch the world go by. If you want to make a night of it a family taxi back to Playa Montroig is around 20. There are a few flight options available when travelling to Playa Montroig. We flew into Barcelona El Prat Airport and got a connecting coach that took us directly to Cambrils Port and then got a short connecting taxi to the Campsite. This was seamless but took over 2 hours door to door. However I would recommend flying into Reus Airport as it is only a 20 minute taxi journey

from there to Playa Montroig. There is another option and that is to fly into Girona but this would require a hire car and a longer travelling time. We booked our holiday through Eurocamp’s Irish Office in Cork and we found the experience to be an excellent one as it caters for all bookings across the island of Ireland and staff understand the needs of the Irish Holidaymaker. Eurocamp offer holidays at many resorts across Europe that include Ferry Travel or you can opt to fly-drive as we did. I would definitely recommend a holiday with Eurocamp and would have no hesitation in paying another visit to Camping Playa Montrolg.
