Grand Opening Weekend at the Adams County Historical Society (ACHS)’s new museum, Gettysburg Beyond the Battle, will take place on Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16. Grand opening festivities include self-guided museum tours, events and programs, living history, children’s activities and a special pop-up stand from Hollabaugh Bros, Inc. Special guests include historians William A. Frassanito, Sue Boardman, Garry Adelman and Tim Smith and authors Jeff Shaara and Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of 34th president Dwight Eisenhower. The programming throughout the weekend will cover a range in topics, including presentations geared toward families on Sunday. Most of the programs are open to the public and free to attend. Tickets are only required for the museum and the April 15th Panel Discussion with William A. Frassanito. Additional parking will be available at Harrisburg Area Community College’s (HACC) Gettysburg campus, and a shuttle will provide transportation between HACC and the museum. Tickets are available for the Grand Opening and for all dates through October 2023 at www.gettysburgbeyondthebattle.org.
In addition to the Grand Opening of its news museum in April, ACHS recently welcomed two new staff members: Denise Eberspeaker and Lindsay Poling.
Denise Eberspeaker is ACHS’s new Director of Operations. She has dedicated her career to working in the non-profit sector with experience in management, fundraising, organizational leadership, volunteer recruitment, communications and marketing and event planning. In 2021, Eberspeaker and her husband Phil moved from the Eastern Shore of Maryland to Adams County for the beautiful scenery and to be closer to her children.

Lindsay Poling is the new Museum and Sales Manager. She is a native of Stuart, Virginia. Poling earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master’s in American History from Liberty University, graduating with honors. She started her career working for Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest and the National D-Day Memorial Foundation with experience in frontline operations and volunteer management.
Additionally, ACHS’s Director of Education Timothy Smith was recently named the official County Historian for Adams County. Smith’s contributions to the preservation of Adams County history are immeasurable. He has been a part of the local community for over 30 years, serving in various roles at both ACHS and as a Licensed Battlefield Guide. Smith was instrumental in the creation of ACHS’s new museum, Gettysburg Beyond the Battle. He is also the author of multiple books and articles about Gettysburg. Perhaps most importantly, Smith has a passion to share his knowledge. He cares deeply about Gettysburg and Adams County and is always excited to talk about that passion and knowledge with others, including future generations of historians.
