Luxurious, Parisian & iconic
In the early 20th century, synthetics were still relatively new in the perfume industry. They weren’t served up raw but presented in a mini perfume. These mini perfumes were called bases, and they were the springboard of some of the greatest compositions to come.
At the heart of Symrise is de Laire, the historic house that developed the first synthetic bases. Bases not only anchor a perfume’s core, but also are the underpinning from which all the other notes are built around to create the multiplex, sophisticated fragrances consumers have come to expect from modern day perfumes.
The de Laire bases were ground-breaking in their ability to allow perfumers the freedom iconic fragrances for the legendary couture houses of Guerlain, Chanel and Rochas to name a few. Revolutionary, yet timeless, these iconic bases were founded in 1878 by the visionary entrepreneur and innovative chemist, Georges de Laire. By combining the newly available manufactured materials with precious natural raw materials in a slow and sensuous process, these bases gave perfumery alchemy with artistry to evoke a deeper feeling.
Many of the raw materials within Symrise’ de Laire Bases now come from renewable sources. Each base blends high quality raw materials, fine natural oils and an exclusive captive, bringing the past to the present and celebrating the continued legacy of Symrise. This is the foundation upon which a new era in fragrance is being built. One that is sensual but not superfluous. This singular vision of haute perfumery is unveiling a world of endless possibilities.
Fast forward to 2019 and Symrise has catapulted its passion for fine fragrance innovation into the beauty industry with the launch of de Laire Beauty Care. This significant development sees avantgarde versions of five select de Laire bases being made available for beauty care products.
The beauty care bases include Rouge Groseille, which captures the soul of succulent red berries; Miel Essentiel, a white gourmand signature with floral undertones; Ambre 84, an avant-garde amber; Cuir Velours, a nude leather with noble floral powdery notes; and Noir Prunol, which is a fresh take on the iconic candied plum scent.
