Willmott Meadow Wem is a pretty market town, located between Whitchurch and Shrewsbury.
Famous for being the birthplace of the sweet pea, Wem still holds an Annual Sweet Pea Festival and Henry Eckford, inventor of the sweet pea remains a local legend to this day. In fact Miss Willmott, a salmon pink sweet pea and one of Eckford’s creations, inspired the name of the development. Wem has been a market town since 1202 and has a history of being the centre of trade in North Shropshire. Wem Town Hall is a delightful venue with a licenced cafe and wi-fi, and holds many community events such as workshops and exhibitions. Numerous small speciality shops line the central streets of Wem, such as the Treacle Mine, an old-fashioned sweet shop, and a traditional iron mongers.
