A coastal town, enriched with culture and arts The pretty seaside resort of Littlehampton lies on the West Sussex coast, at the mouth of the River Arun. Affectionately referred to as ‘Sussex by the Sea’ the town is surrounded by the beauty of the South Downs National Park. Originally a small fishing community, the name Littlehampton is believed to have become established in the fourteenth century by the sailors who needed to differentiate the destination from the larger port of Southampton. Throughout the years, the town has grown to become a popular holiday destination. In the eighteenth century, many well known members of the artistic and literary community including Byron, Shelley and Constable, all spent time living and drawing inspiration from the area. Still popular today, residents and visitors can enjoy the many beaches, parks, harbour and marina areas. One highlight is the ‘Look & Sea’ Centre, with it’s exhibition of the town’s maritime history. The centre also offers panoramic views from its 80 foot viewing platform out to sea and inland to Arundel and beyond. Stunning architecture is a feature of Littlehampton and nowhere more so than at the eye-catching East Beach Café on the promenade and the many individual pieces which make up the Littlehampton Art Trail, running along the riverside. The pedestrianised High Street area is within 200 metres of the development and offers a mix of well known names and individual shops.
