“But one thing is certain: If we merge mercy with might, and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change our children’s birthright So let us leave behind a country better than the one we were left with.” Amanda is saying that the American people should thrive to be better not only for their own benefits but also think about the new generation to come, that they should have a better America, than the one their parents lived in. She finishes of her poem by saying, “For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it If only we’re brave enough to be it.” (Amanda Gorman)

Although not easy, Amanda encourages people to be the change that they long for and persevere. Throughout the poem she uses biblical references and makes a reference about being light in a world of darkness. Overall her piece moved a lot of Americans, and it gave a new air to this 2021 presidency.
