sar ah woods se a & for m 12 SEPTEMBER – 9 OCTOBER 2026
Sarah Woods makes paintings inspired by the landscape of West Cornwall. They are informed by the tranquillity of her brushstrokes, in a palette drawn directly from the cool north light of the Penwith peninsula, while textures in the landscape are understood through the tactile quality of linen and canvas. The quiet of Sarah’s studio space allows for a meditation on the coast that inspires her, on its openness and the rawness of the sea and land. Each painting is framed in unfinished oak, to reflect the natural simplicity of her beautiful work.

SEA & FORM 12 SEPTEMBER – 9 OCTOBER 2026
‘August’s painterly light and cool tinted breeze; the month between summer and autumn, the days that promise change. The sea endlessly brings something new to the land – a late summer swell or a cold wind brushing its surface, the stillness and weightlessness of slow, thoughtful days. Sun and poetic shadows highlight the forms of the landscape.
This new collection is drawn from the quiet of early mornings, bathing in rich palettes and the space that the landscape holds at this time of day. Always turning with the seasons, these works capture a feeling of late summer, of the warmth of the land and of cooler days ahead. Each painting is hand stretched, painted and framed at my Newlyn studio, where I bring focus to the nature of working slowly by hand, and to the beauty of a simple process, to the ritual of mixing my palette and absorbing the hues of the landscape and the textures of my canvas. Here, the observations and feelings I have gathered unfold through the movements of my brush and paint.’ Sarah Woods 2026

‘Sarah Woods’ lyrical paintings of reductive landscapes use close, tonal, simple shaped forms and low key colour tinted silver greys. They function as quiet dreamscapes, lulling one into self-absorption. Poetic mirages of seduction, depicting the open spaces of minimal land, sea and sky images. Visual mood music ‘dream a dream with me’; to sit with, and let one’s imagination, drift away on.’ John Charles Clark, 2023
