REBECCA POLYBLANK Painter and sculptor Rebecca Polyblank studied at Plymouth College of Art, and gained a first-class honours degree in Sculpture from Gloucestershire College of Arts. She lives and works on Cornwall’s beautiful Bodmin Moor, and her work is inspired by the area’s unique landscape. Walking the moors daily in different weathers, her experience of colour, temperature, light, flora and fauna are reflected in the detailed pencil and ink studies she makes at her studio. That same, detailed level of drawing is maintained in the flattened, almost decorative surfaces of her paintings, which combine soft backdrops of sectioned colour with images of butterflies and moths, grasses, thistles, hedge parsley and wind-blown Alexanders, leaping hares, deer and tiny, darting birds. Particularly unique are her sculptures of rabbits, owls, horses and other moorland creatures, all of which convey the weight and texture of bronze work, but are in fact skilfully created from papier-mâché.
