Pursuing the Dream Caitlyn Smith ‘15
Major: Communications & Graphic Design Hometown: Golden, Colorado Senior Caitlyn Smith is squeezing as many opportunities as she can out of her education. Her work-study jobs have given her relevant experience in her areas of career interest. She parlayed her work-study experience into a summer job that helped get her one step closer to her post-graduation objective of being the marketing director for a professional baseball team. “I was able to obtain a full-time internship last summer with a baseball team in east Texas and expand on what I’ve already learned at Newberry,” Caitlyn said. “Thanks to Newberry graduates and my bosses on-campus, I have developed a lot of valuable contacts in the industry that I want to work in.” Caitlyn originally attended Newberry College on an athletic scholarship to play softball. But her college sports career was permanently sidelined when the team was involved in a car accident on the way to a game. The College has continued to work with Caitlyn to find other scholarship sources. “Without scholarships, grants and work-study, I would not have been able to remain at Newberry,” Caitlyn said. “Alumni scholarship donations make a huge difference for students who might not otherwise be able to attend here.”
