Raiding The Rock Vault A Far-Out Trip Down Rock ’n’ Roll Memory Lane

W

atch out, Las Vegas! Now playing at The LVH is “Raiding the Rock Vault,” a far-out fantastic show that is sure to please everyone that enjoys Rock ’n’ Roll. A spectacular stage show that features live music and real Rock ’n’ Roll musicians and singers brings an unparalleled level of authenticity to this show. As the members of the band are transported through time, they travel through five decades of music. Through the use of two large screens situated on both sides of the stage, each decade’s memorable moments are displayed. From the Vietnam War, to Watergate and Woodstock, all these images are used to add another dimension to the music. Aided by the visual pictures are scenes acted out from each era—hippies, soldiers, a yuppie, and a MTV VJ help weave the story together and take the audience on a far out ride! The show was conceived and written by esteemed Grammy Award-winning record producer David Kershenbaum (Joe Jackson, Tracy Chapman, Supertramp) and musician, producer, and vocalist John Payne (Asia). They have put together a powerhouse of vocals, guitarists, and other gifted musicians. The show features John Payne [Lead Vocals and Bass] (Asia), Paul Shortino [Vocals] (Quiet Riot), Howard Leese [Guitar] (Heart), Jay Schellen [Drums] (Badfinger), Tracii Guns [Guitar] (L.A. Guns, Guns N’ Roses), Andrew Freeman [Lead Vocals and Guitars] (Lynch Mob, The Offspring), Robin McAuley [Lead Vocals] (Survivor, MSG), and Michael T. Ross [Keyboards] (Lita Ford). From the moment these rock stars hit the stage the electricity and anticipation from the audience is palpable.

16

Memorable songs from The Doors, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, The Rolling Stones, and more bring the audience to their feet to dance and rock out. Not only does the audience stand up and dance, they crowd around the stage waiting to catch the eye of and touch the band members—very reminiscent of what an open arena rock concert is like. Lighting and sound can make or break a show and from the moment the curtain goes up it is evident that you are about to see a world-class show. The theater is acoustically sound, and each song is pitch perfect and musically incredible. The entire cast is amazing with their vocal and musical prowess. However, McAuley’s (Lead Vocals) charisma and stage presence is out-of-this-world fantastic. Ladies watch out, Robin is 100 percent rock sexy and his voice is deep, raspy, and powerful. Tracii Guns has some incredible guitar solos that make you love real Rock ’n’ Roll all over again. In this show there is not a single bad performance and everyone’s enjoyment of performing is evident. Afterwards, they pose for pictures and autographs at the Tempo Bar. The reviews by people who have seen the show range from “AWESOME” to “# 1 Show Not To Miss!” The show starts at 8 p.m., and you can find more information on pricing by visiting raidingtherockvault.com.

Star Views: Las Vegas

By Carole McCabe Joy

as Vegas is the city that you can see twinkling brightly in the desert. If you happened to be in space, you could still see Vegas! Sometimes a different type of star visits our city, quite a few and quite often as a matter of fact. Here are some celebrities who have visited Las Vegas.

© Scott Harrison / Erik Kabik Photography

G. Soiree. This event coincides with the JCK jewelry convention. This year, some of the stars spotted at the event included Paula Abdul, Jenny McCarthy, and Mario Lopez with his expectant wife Courtney. Starlet Audrina Partridge glowed in a white dress with gold jewelry.

During a Santana performance at the House Of Blues, Emilio Estefan Jr. (husband of Gloria) surprised the crowd as he played the drums for a few songs. Santana returns in September for his residency at House of Blues. Every year TAO brings out some serious star power for the Simon 18

Rock Star Scott Weiland performed at the acoustic diamond that is The Pearl at The Palms on June 1st. His theatrical performance included songs from Stone Temple Pilots’ albums Core (1992) and Purple (1994) with the Purple At The Core tour. Thrilling! When a new club opens in Vegas, it becomes a mecca for visiting celebrities. Such is the case with Hakkasan, located in the MGM. Sighted in one night DJ/actor/TV host Nick Cannon spun with energy and the party goers loved it! In another part of the club international movie star Jason Statham relaxed and sipped on a beer. He was in town filming. DWTS’s winner Derek Hough was also seen taking it easy and enjoying Vegas.

Al Powers of Powers Imagery LLC/angelmg.com

Celebrity Chef Mario Batali kicked off the first CARNEVALE celebration at The Palazzo. Wearing his trademark orange clothing, in this instance Crocs, Chef Batali signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans! Oh and a little announcement of his upcoming new restaurant, B&B Burger & Beer, which will feature a menu with local ingredients and a beer-driven beverage list.

Edison Graff

MDW13 was a big weekend for celeb spotting! Over at The Hard Rock it was a rapper’s delight! The “King of Mic” stopped by the Joint and had fans thoroughly enjoying the performances of LL COOL J with DJ Z-Trip, De La Soul, Ice Cube, and Public Enemy.

Beyond the main dining room and patio of the Brasserie, the Sugar Factory Cafe and Chocolate Lounge are considered supreme private dining. The Sugar Factory Cafe and patio are stunning locations for smaller events, as they sit under the exquisite Las Vegas sky, while the intimate setting of the Chocolate Lounge offers an alluring selection of sweet fondue and can be paired perfectly with wine or champagne. Just in time for some summer fun, be sure to indulge in a cocktail from the new custom-built cocktail cart. This cart offers tableside service, and you can add liquid nitrogen to your fabulous cocktail for $5. The liquid nitrogen addition will turn your cocktail into a delicious “slushy.” Some of the cocktails to try include the Pineapple Cosmopolitan, Hubba Bubba, Jolly Ranger, or even a Banana Mango Margarita. There are 15 cocktails to choose from. The Sugar Factory brand has become an instant hit across the country—offering everyone a sweet escape. Sugar Factory also has stores located at The Mirage Hotel & Casino, Paris Hotel & Casino, Miracle Mile Shops inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, and MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. LAS VEGAS, 2013 – With dogs and puppies of all ages, sizes and breeds including more mixed breeds than most municipal shelters, Adopt A Rescue Pet “ARP”, since it’s non-profit charitable approval in 2001 has placed over 12,000 homeless animals into loving homes, via it’s weekly adoption events. So far this year the organization has provided a safe haven to more than 1,200 homeless dogs; adopting more than 900 of it’s animals into wonderful loving homes. * ARP currently cares for more than 300 dogs on a daily basis, housing some in temporary structures on the existing sanctuary land, others in foster homes, but a large majority at a local kennel. This campaign is to build permanent structures allowing the sanctuary to be open to the public for adopting, volunteering, and decreasing the euthanasia numbers of adoptable pets in area shelters.

Common Sense Will Keep You Alive Flash floods in Clark County are the result of high intensity, short duration thunderstorms, typically occurring in the summer months. The months of July through September are considered flash flood season throughout Southern Nevada. The Las Vegas Valley’s average annual rainfall is approximately 4 inches. Even a small storm with little precipitation can produce dangerous flooding when the rain falls on the hard Las Vegas desert soil. Roadway low points can quickly fill with floodwaters, trapping unsuspecting motorists. Dips, bridges and low areas are particularly prone to flooding and are not always visible at night. Avoid areas that are already flooded and high velocity flow areas. Do not attempt to cross flowing washes. Be aware that the roadbed may not be intact under floodwaters. Turn around and go another way. NEVER drive through flooded roadways. Children, in particular, need to be warned about the dangers of floodwaters and dry washes.
