Changing people’s lives...One pain at a time

Optimised Magnetic Field Current research with cell and animal studies and randomised controlled trials has demonstrated that static magnetic fields can be optimised for therapeutic effects.

Envelope the Target Tissue If the static magnetic field is unable to penetrate deep enough to reach the target tissue, such as the spinal cord, then it’s unreasonable to expect a positive clinical outcome. The picture to the left illustrates the field penetration of a QF28-6 device. Penetrating up to 50mm, the field is able to capture the spinal cord, nerve roots and the posterior side of a lumbar disc. The large selection of Q magnet models and sizes allows one to better target the injured tissue with a therapeutic field.

Biological Effects

Therapeutic Effects

• Increased pain threshold • Reduced nerve sensitization • Microvasculature homeostasis • Tissue repair

• Pain relief • Faster recovery from injury

“Q magnets are the most effective drug free pain relief device I have come across.” “Every first aid kit should have a set.” Dr Sandra Cabot Q Magnets | 1

Q Magnet Application • Correct placement is essential for the devices to work. • Apply directly to skin with QFix double sided adhesive, sports tape or sew them into wraps or braces. • Make sure the skin is clean and dry before application. This will reduce the risk of skin irritation. • Always keep the orientation arrow pointing up. • Allow space between each device of at least the width of the device. • Mark the position before removing them if reapplying. • Use a barrier product such as Skin Prep or some other alcohol wipe before applying.

Safe PLACEMENT IS THE KEY

“Once I got the placement position correct, the Q magnets have diminished my pain levels.” Jeff Clark (Ohio) - 2010 2 | Q Magnets

Changing people’s lives...One pain at a time

“The healing times are significantly reduced... I’ve got fantastic results from them.” AFL champion Simon Black (with inventor and physiotherapist, Dianne Hermans)

Effective “Like everything, not all magnets are created equal.” “If you are going to use magnets for pain relief, you’ve got to use the Q magnets which are the ones that gave me the benefit.” Dr Ross Walker (Cardiologist & Author) - 2014 Q Magnets | 3

“Q magnets are working an absolute treat!” Australian Cricketer Shane Watson - 2012 (with inventors James & Dianne Hermans)

Simple “I, along with many, cannot be certain as to the precise biological explanation surrounding the physiology of Q magnet action, it is irrefutable in my case that they were, nevertheless, highly effective.” Dr Mark Thibert (Plastic Surgeon) - 2009 4 | Q Magnets

At the base of the spine just above the cleavage in the buttocks. (S2)

The second and third devices are placed over the dimples on either side of the spine just over the buttocks. (Left & Right PSIS’s).

The fourth device is placed midline on the spine. To find this placement, draw a line between the highest portion of each hipbone and place the device where the line crosses the midline on the back on the spine. (L4/5 intervertebral disc space).

For best results use: QF28-6 in positions 1 & 4 QF28-3 in positions 2 & 3

Non-Invasive “For someone who had suffered such excruciating pain for so many years I could not believe that my pain could be stopped in its tracks by these tiny yet amazing devices. Take it from someone who tried everything – these amazing devices work.” Lynette Palmen AM - 2009 Q Magnets | 5

Lower Back Treatment Protocol

A fifth device can be placed midline on the spine, approximately 50mm (2 inches) above the fourth device. (L2/3 intervertebral disc space).

For an alternative placement try 1, 2 & 3 as described with a device secured by a “bridge” of tape approximately 25mm (1 inch) below the cleavage of the buttocks. Create a “bridge” by placing a piece of tape from one buttocks across to the other. Secure the Q magnet in place with an added piece of tape over the top of the device. (Sacral apex / coccyx).

For best results use: QF28-6 in positions 1, 4, 5 & 6 QF28-3 in positions 2 & 3

Based on Science “Q magnets are the most dramatic pain control device for back pain that I have ever used.”

Dianne Hermans (Physiotherapist) 6 | Q Magnets

Changing people’s lives...One pain at a time

Dermatomes Dermatomes are areas of skin supplied with afferent nerve fibres by a single nerve root. Dermatome mapping helps to understand why pain may travel beyond the injury site to other areas of the body. Understanding dermatomes assists in correctly positioning Q magnets for patients suffering pain. Chronic Pain is treated by targeting the original injury site and more importantly treating centrally at the nerve root. Due to communication through propriospinal intersegmental neurons, often devices will need to be placed on multiple levels. The target of treatment for central sensitization should be over the spine (central nervous system) and not the periphery. Acute Pain, soft tissue injuries and wound healing are treated by applying the devices directly over the affected areas and left for the duration of the injury. Chronic dysfunction should be treated with Q magnets by an experienced health professional skilled in musculoskeletal therapy.

Tooth Pain Treatment Protocol

Place the center of the Q magnet device over the area where the affected tooth is attached to the gum over the nerve root. Q magnet application can also be used after wisdom teeth extraction to help reduce pain and swelling.

For best results use: QF28-3 or QF20-3

Drug Free “Right after wisdom teeth removal, my husband applied 4 magnets over the extraction site while I was still in the hospital recovery room. I “wore” the magnets for the next 4 days – at NO time was it necessary for me to take any other form of pain relief. I did not feel any pain or discomfort, nor did I experience any bleeding, bruising or swelling – I do not know any other person who has had their wisdom teeth extracted to be able to say the same!!!” Elizabeth Bradfield (Brisbane) - 2009. 8 | Q Magnets

Changing people’s lives...One pain at a time

Mild Knee Pain Treatment Protocol

The first is intended for mild to moderate pain. Feel for the joint spaces or grooves on either side of the knee by bending the knee forward and back. Place a Q magnet on either side of the knee in these two joint spaces.

1

2

Lateral tibio-femoral joint lines

Medial tibio-femoral joint lines

For best results use: QF28-3 or QF20-3

Painless “Once I got the placement position correct the magnets have diminished my pain level. I am recovering from a knee injury (MCL) and was experiencing sharp pains when walking on hard surfaces; also I had constant moderate discomfort. The magnets have eliminated the sharp pains and I now have only mild discomfort. JJC (Ohio) - 2010 Q Magnets | 9

Severe Knee Pain Treatment Protocol

Add a Q magnet above and below the knee in the joint spaces, again by feeling for the grooves at the top and bottom of the kneecap, while bending the knee back and forth. Placement should resemble a diamond shape around the kneecap.

3

4

Superior to knee joint capsule

Inferior to knee joint capsule

For best results use: QF28-3 or QF20-3

Non-Addictive “In the past 15 years, I’ve had 10 operations and doctors have recommended two total knee replacements. Using Q magnets, my pain levels and function have improved remarkably and the knee replacement operations are on the back-burner.” David Knox (Brisbane) - 2012 10 | Q Magnets

Shoulder Pain Treatment Protocol

Place over the joint spaces in the front, back and top of the shoulder.

1

2

To find the joint space on the top part of the arm, raise and lower the affected arm while gently pressing just below the shoulder bone on the top of the arm. Place a Q magnet device in the space felt just below the shoulder bone. Inferior to acromion process.

To find the joint space in front, raise and lower the affected arm while gently pressing in front of the shoulder. Place a Q magnet device in the space felt in front of the shoulder joint. Anterior to the glenohumeral joint.

For best results use: QF28-3

Used at Home “I have used the Q magnets every day since I received them about three weeks ago for my chronic shoulder and elbow pain. Prior to using Q magnets I was taking aspirin like they were candy but have now reduce it by 90%. I have greater range of motion, considerably less discomfort, and all while reducing my reliance on pills.” Steven Luciano (New York)- 2009 Q Magnets | 11

Shoulder Pain Back Treatment Protocol

Back View Often placements 1 & 2 are adequate, but placement 3 may also be required.

3

4 & 5

To find the joint space at the back, raise and lower the affected arm while gently pressing in back of the shoulder. Place a Q magnet device in the space felt in back of the shoulder joint. Posterior to the glenohumeral joint.

Pain due to an overuse injury or muscle strain may benefit by placement of the device over the effective trigger point. Use a two-device array over the area of muscle tenderness on the back. Levator scapulae and posterior to the glenohumeral joint.

For best results use: QF28-3

Non-Invasive “I have tried other magnets, neodideum or something like that for my left shoulder. Strong, but they were just plain magnets not the quadrapolar and the QUADRAPOLAR MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

Tony Elliot (Perth) - 2009 12 | Q Magnets

Changing people’s lives...One pain at a time

“Q magnets are an invaluable addition to the range of physio treatments I use. Patients are often amazed at the rapid improvements the neuromagnet application provides.” Peter Stanton (Sports Physiotherapist)

3

The bulge at the base of the neck is the 7th cervical vertebrae (C7). The first device is placed about 5cm above C7 which is over C4 and for most people at the hairline.

Just above the bulge is the space between the 6th and 7th cervical vertebrae C6/7. The second device is placed approximately 4cm to the Left of midline.

The third device is placed 4cm to the Right of midline. The position of placements 2 & 3 will usually be tender when pressed.

For best results use: QF28-3 or QF20-3

Drug Free “I’ve been using Q magnets for low back and neck pain after surgery. The magnets have helped me A LOT and reduced the need for medication! On the NECK the pain decreases almost totally in about half an hour. I have tried them also for my husband, who has sciatica pain due to two slipped discs: the pain was reduced significantly and he did not use nurofen that time. I can say these magnets are very precious for me!” Mariarosa from Perth - 2012. Q Magnets | 15

Neck Pain Treatment Protocol 2

For positions 1, 2 & 3 see Neck Pain Treatment Protocol 1.

4 The bulge at the base of the neck is the 7th cervical vertebrae (C7). The fourth device is placed midline below the bulge at the base of the neck which is over C7/T1.

For best results use: QF28-3 or QF20-3

Based on Science “My physiotherapist suggested I try using Q magnets. I have found them a God send. When I start to feel pain or stiffness in my back, neck or shoulders that if left untreated would normally lead to a headache. Instead to taking pain killers (bad for one’s liver) I reach for my Q magnets.” Beverley Plint (Brisbane) - 2011. 16 | Q Magnets

Ankle Pain Treatment Protocol

One device is placed in the groove felt by gently pressing behind the anklebone on the inside of the ankle. Posterior to the medial malleolus

Another device is placed in the groove felt by gently pressing in front of the anklebone on the outside of the ankle. Anterior to the lateral malleolus

For best results use: QF28-3 or QF20-3

Foot Pain Treatment Protocol

Place over the area of discomfort (e.g. metatarsal). The device should not be worn inside shoes if it’s going to cause additional pressure, but may be worn outside, as the magnetic field will penetrate through non-metallic material unaffected. Use a strong durable tape, such as packing tape, to secure the devices in place. Flexible sports bandages may also be wrapped around the shoe to keep the devices secure. Apply the devices at night, to the skin, directly over the area of discomfort. Q Magnets | 17

“I have been using Q magnets from Neuromagnetics Australia since 2004 both in private practice and in my capacity as team physiotherapist for the Wallaby’s and the Brisbane Lions.” “In that time I have used them for a range of soft tissue injuries and I have particularly found them useful for reducing spasm, swelling and pain modulation.” Edward Fitzgerald (Sports Physiotherapist)

Effective “When we first introduced Q Magnets to the Western Force Super Rugby team, there were many of the boys laughing at the concept and calling it placebo.” “The players who have used the magnets believe the magnets have improved a cork by a day or two from the normal healing time. This means they can get back on the training pitch earlier in the week which help their preparation and the teams preparation to perform at the highest level.” Rob Naish - Western Force Head Physiotherapist 18 | Q Magnets

Hip Pain Treatment Protocol

1 At the joint space of the hipbone. Feel for the hip bone and gently swing the leg forward and back on the affected side. Place a Q magnet directly over this joint space or groove. Lateral to the hip joint over the insertion of the Iliotibial band to the pelvis on the hip crease.

2 For best results use: QF28-3

Midway between the inner thigh and hip at the groin fold in the front. On the anterior/superior thigh centrally over the inguinal ligament and anterior hip joint capsule.

3 Over the groove or indentation felt on the side of the hip by gently extending the leg back. On the hip posteriorly over the superior and inferior gemmelli. A combination of all three devices is recommended.

Q Magnets | 19

Elbow Pain Treatment Protocol Tenderness of the elbow from overuse or inflammation is best managed by the devices being placed over the joint spaces on the inner and outer surface of the elbow and over areas of tenderness. The joint spaces are found by grasping either side of the elbow joint while bending the elbow back and forth. Place a Q magnet on either side of the elbow in the spaces.

1 Medial epicondyles

For best results use: QF20-3 or QF15-2

2 Lateral epicondyles

Inexpensive “During 2011, hours spent on the pistol range caused an overuse strain of the extensor carpi radialis muscle (back of forearm). It was a very localised and specific pain that worsened when the thumb gripped the pistol. Physiotherapists are sceptical by nature and if you had of told me all I had to do was to place the Q magnet and in a few days my injury would be completely healed, I wouldn’t have believed it!” Dean Mineall (Gold Coast Physiotherapist) - 2012. 20 | Q Magnets

1

In the middle of the pelvic area, just above the pubic bone and pubic hair. In the anterior pelvic rim, centrally and superior to the pubic symphysis.

& 3

25mm (one inch) above and 25mm (one inch) to either side of the centre device. Slightly superior to the first and medial to the anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) joint line. This placement varies individually depending on the pain location. For lower abdominal pain, two additional devices may be placed over the (L) and (R) PSIS (see lower back placement). If the pain is from surgery and abdominal scarring, place the devices over the affected areas.

For best results use: QF28-3

Nausea Treatment Protocol Placement for acute nausea and motion sickness is at the wrist fold beneath the thumb finger as shown. Placement is found by following the thumb line down over the wrist fold. Feel along the bone along the edge of the wrist for the groove or indentation. Place the device over the groove or indentation.

Q Magnets | 21

TMJ/Jaw Pain Treatment Protocol

Q magnet devices can be placed over each temperomandibular joint TMJ. The temperomandibular joint can be identified by feeling in front of the ear with the index finger while opening and closing the mouth. The devices should be worn at night and held in place by QFix double-sided adhesives and /or tape.

For best results use: QF28-3 or QF20-3

Non-invasive “After the original lack of response by using the two tiny magnets, we swaped to use the big QF28-3 magnets we placed on the TMJ and base of the skull, respectively, per Miss Dianne’s instructions. There have been two weeks since THE TRIGEMINAL PAIN SUBSIDED ALTOGETHER. The improvement was significant in the first 24 hours and subsequently receded gradually in a few days.” “My daughter is currently pain-free after having suffered excruciating and constant pain for over a year.” Dr Lucretia Diplan (Maryland/USA) - 2009. 22 | Q Magnets
