1 . General In addition to this leaflet 670.20 concerning "Special Operating Instructions, Maintenance and Spare Parts" of the actuator K16 and K18 (RMG 670), the brochure 670.00 gives full information about all relevant technical data, description of function, the available versions, and dimensions. Relevant technical data can also be obtained from the latest RMG booklet. Please also refer to the leaflets of the safety device the actuator is connected to. The RMG brochure "General operating instructions for gas pressure regulators and safety devices" will be useful to fit the safety device into the line, put it into service and find faults that might disturb its operation. Please also check if the construction, set-up, supervision and maintenance of gas pressure regulating stations may be subject to special national regulations. These technical rules should be observed strictly (Within Germany observe the DVGW worksheets G 490, G 491, G 495). The frequency of periodical maintenance of gas pressure regulators and other components of the regulating line is strongly dependant on the prevailing service conditions, the type and composition of the gaseous medium, the ambient temperature and on dust and dirt withing the pipe system. We therefore abstain from imposing any fixed intervals and would rather advise testing out the necessary maintenance intervals, starting with short gaps for maintenance dismantling, and then increasing the intervals if there are no damages or signs of wear. For maintenance all parts are to be cleaned and subjected to a thorough visual inspection. Complete dismantling together with visual inspection should not be omitted when the course of operation or performance tests have shown lack of accuracy. Particular care should be given to the checking of sealings and diaphragms, as well as the closing spring and all movable parts. Damaged parts should be replaced by new ones. The item numbers referred to in the maintenance instructions are identical with those of of the spare parts drawings and of the spare parts lists. We recommend to keep all parts that are specially markedin the spare parts lists in stock for prompt maintenance availability.
2. Special Maintenance Instructions a) diaphragm type measuring unit pre-formed diaphragm (107) When fitting the diaphragm be sure to observe the correct mounting position of the diaphragm loops (see spare parts drawings) diaphragm plate (103) When tightening the closing cap (121) or the hexagonal nut (102) the diaphragm plate should be secured against distortion using a spanner size SW 24. valve insert (120) press double diaphragm system down far enough so that the valve insert can be pushed inside. adjusting the diaphragm system During assembly the diaphragm system has to be adjusted correctly: Turn the diaphragm system to the left and to the right to the stop, and mark these positions with a pencil Then turn the diaphragm system into the center position, thus bringing the diaphragm system and the valve insert into alignment. pencil marks: for the stops, for the center position adjusting movement valve housing diaphragm hexagonal nut

c) RMG 670 for SAV release, valve insert (225) and piston (229) Due to a change in the construction the standard valve insert (RMG part no. 10 011 775) with a nozzle diameter of 3 mm used up to January 1996 (01/96) has now been replaced by the valve insert, RMG part no. 10 011 776, to be used in combination with the pre-assembled piston, RMG part no. 10 026 301. For maintenance works only these new parts are to be used - even on older safety shut-off devices.

b) metal harmonica type measuring unit (K18) pre-formed diaphragm (207) Whem fitting the diaphragm be sure to observe the correct mounting position of the diaphragm loops (see spare parts drawings) diaphragm plate (227) When tightening the closing cap (121) or the hexagonal nut (102) the diaphragm plate should be secured against distortion using a spanner size SW 24. metal harmonica (202) Push connecting piece (203) into valve casing (204) and screw on metal harmonica. Turn the harmonica system to the left and to the right to the stop, and then into the center position, thus bringing the harmonica system and the valve insert into alignment. Place lid on top. valve insert (225) Press metal harmonica downwards with a suitable rod so that the valve insert can be mounted. base plate (6) The sides of the single stages joining on to the base plate should be brought to alignment before tightening the screws.
c) RMG 670 for SAV release, valve insert (225) and piston (229) Due to a change in the construction the standard valve insert (RMG part no. 10 011 775) with a nozzle diameter of 3 mm used up to January 1996 (01/96) has now been replaced by the valve insert, RMG part no. 10 011 776, to be used in combination with the pre-assembled piston, RMG part no. 10 026 301. For maintenance works only these new parts are to be used - even on older safety shut-off devices.
