The building sector accounts for 30-40% of world’s primary energy consumption and is responsible for about 33% of total global CO2 emission. Buildings also provide the highest economic GHG mitigation potential. This course is intended to introduce essential and practical understanding of energy processes and rational use of energy in buildings. The course covers the external and internal energy processes involved in the control of the built environment. This course is designed to develop an understanding of the production of an energy commodity, the route it takes to reach the ultimate end-user, the risks of dealing in physical energy commodities, and the financial commodity markets. Smart grid to enhance reliability, security, robustness and efficiency of transmission and distribution systems. Integration of renewable energy sources and distributed generation. Advanced metering infrastructure, home-area networks, real-time energy pricing, plug-in hybrid vehicles, demand response, load curve shaping, and energy storage systems. Enabling active participation of consumer, cyber and physical security.
