When it comes to scholarship funding for junior golfers and families of New England PGA Professionals, there’s something for EVERYONE! Since its inception, the New England PGA Foundation (formerly the New England Professional Golfers Association Scholarship Fund) has awarded over $550,000 in college scholarships to the children, grandchildren and step-children of PGA Professionals, as well as junior golfers in New England. Under the direction of the New England PGA Foundation and its Scholarship Committee, the NEPGA aims to continue growing the number of scholarships available, as well as the amount of funding available each year.
grandchildren and step-children of Class A NEPGA members in good standing are eligible to apply for the PGA of America Scholarship, the Wemyss Scholarship, the O’Rourke Scholarship, and the Murphy Scholarship. Students who meet the NEPGA’s 3.2 GPA requirement but do not meet the PGA of America’s 3.4 GPA requirement can apply for the Wemyss, O’Rourke and Murphy Scholarships through the separate applications linked on the website. Just last year, the Avidia Bank Scholarship was created to benefit up to five junior golfers in New England pursuing higher education, becoming the ninth scholarship offered to junior golfers and families of PGA Professionals within the New England Section. PGA of America’s Financial Assistance Fund applications are due April 3. All students wishing to apply for the Wemyss, O’Rourke, Murphy, and the PGA of America Scholarships who meet the PGA of America’s 3.4 GPA requirement can apply for all four scholarships at once through the PGA of America’s Financial Assistance Fund.
