ing as well as knowledgeable. The personal family feeling comes across with every team member that works there. The enthusiasm and energy is apparent as soon as you walk through the parking lot. Don't be surprised if one of the instructors walks by and greets you by name, with a huge smile, and gives your little one a high-five on their way out to the pool deck. Laughter and cheering fills the air. As soon as you begin watching the lessons take place it becomes evident that all of the instructors absolutely love what they do! Seal Swim School prides itself on having something to offer everyone. Depending on what the best learning environment is for your child, group or private lessons are available. In their

group classes the ratio is four children to one instructor, this small class size creates a structured, positive and personal situation for your child to learn. Or, if you feel a one-on-one is better suited for your little one, they offer private lessons to tailor to your child’s individualized needs. Classes are taught in sessions of 12 lessons, and by the end of those 12 lessons you will be amazed by the progress and success that your child has made. Just go watch a Seal Swim School lesson. When you stand on the pool deck, be prepared as you might see a one-year-old baby swimming over 8 feet to the pool’s edge, a fouryear-old learning butterfly or even a group of 2½-year-olds learning proper

diving technique. Seal prides itself on the success of their students. Just ask one of the teachers or parents if Seal really can teach any child regardless of their fear or personality. "Absolutely!" they will reply without hesitation. Seal can teach anyone how to swim! From the beginner swimmers who are now able to swim independently, to the more advanced swimmers who can swim all four strokes across the pool. The change from day 1 to day 12 is truly something to talk about. One of the parents who has two of their children enrolled had this to say, “I have never been so impressed with a swim school in my life. The staff is wonderful and very positive! Positive reinforcement is so important and they build on each child’s strengths and work on each child’s individual weaknesses. I love the way they build my children's self-confidence and swimming skills. Just their positive and loving nature towards

my children is genuine and so awesome. I am so pleased with the way they teach life- saving skills to young children!” The instructors use the Seal Swim School techniques that have been developed through 37 years of experience, learning and innovation. Seal Swim School is constantly improving and developing its techniques. Shannon Seal, owner of the North Pinellas location, said, “We will never be complacent with our teaching methods as we understand the importance that growing and learning has to teaching.” Seal Swim School is changing the lives of families that bring their children to their swim school for lessons; there is no challenge too great for them. Seal Swim School creates safer, confident swimmers and also helps give parents another layer of safety for their little ones. We urge you to contact Seal Swim School to get your child swimming. Trust the leaders in swimming. Swim Smarter, Swim Safer, Swim Seal. Seal Swim School is located at 1888 S. Pinellas Avenue in Tarpon Springs (behind Total Fitness). Together, they built up the practice at Pasco Animal Hospital near Trouble Creek and US 19. After their veterinary business stabilized Kecia and her husband started their next adventure and became parents when they adopted their son from Guatemala and a few years later they domestically adopted their daughter. Kecia then earned her Degree in Social Work from the University of South Florida with a field placement as a student intern working with adolescent, adults, and families in group private practice. Later Kecia worked as the executive director of the same private practice. Since January 2014, Kecia Adams has combined her business knowledge from years of building their veterinary hospital with her love and experience in private practice therapy to create her own vision. West Pasco Counseling Services, LLC, is located at 3030 Starkey Boulevard, Suite 180, across the street from Havana Dreamers Cafe. Teenagers don’t want to scare, disappoint or worry their parents, so they often aren’t as comfortable talking through their issues with a family member, but Kecia can help bridge communication between parents and their children. Dr. Tracy Blanchard interned with Kecia Adams and says, “During a student internship for my mental health counseling program, I had the pleasure of observing the work and personal style of Kecia Adams, LCSW. Throughout my association with Kecia, she consistently demonstrated a unique ability to use her personality and humor when connecting with her clients. She engaged her clients and motivated them to implement change when necessary. She delivered solution-focused therapy with the skill of a consummate professional, while attending to clients’ emotional needs. I appreciated her style, skill and delivery as a therapist, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from her.” West Pasco Counseling Services is credentialed with a few insurance companies, but believe there are many benefits to self-paying, including not

needing to disclose your private information and not being impacted by limitations and cost cutting efforts of insurance companies. West Pasco Counseling Services can work out a sliding scale based on your income when you call for more information. Kecia believes people who question whether or not therapy will be helpful for them are both wise and brave. To consider asking for help means to take a risk, and walk into the unknown. Find Personal, Professional, Preferable Care at 1st Choice Pharmacy By Julie Kanehl These days, going to the pharmacy feels like a fast-food restaurant most of the time. You either stand in line, cafeteria style at the back of a store with people who seem less than eager to assist you, or you drive through and talk to a microphone. The truth of the matter is that medicine is extremely important! It shouldn’t be treated impersonally. It should be treated with respect, double and triple-checked, with the person who is taking the medication in mind the entire time. Say goodbye to the fast-food pharmacy, because it’s a whole new world at 1st Choice Pharmacy, located at 2228 US Highway 19 N in Holiday. 1st Choice Pharmacy is conveniently located so that everyone can get to it, whether you live in East Lake, Tarpon Springs, New Port Richey, Trinity or any of the surrounding communities. Of course, 1st Choice Pharmacy services Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties, and they even

Very ambitious and hardworking by nature, he found himself in a successful position, yet he felt that was meant to do more. After only three years of working with a major pharmacy retailer, Hanna knew it was time to open up a pharmacy where he knew he could make a personal difference. He said, “I wanted to have more contact with my patients about their health, and focus less on retail. I didn’t envision myself counting pills and pasting labels. It wasn’t what I went to school for. So I started my own pharmacy in 2007.” In addition to Hanna, 1st Choice Pharmacy also has Caroline Morcos, R.ph on staff. She has many years of experience as a pharmacist in a hospital setting, and her valuable experience with compounding for IV infusion,

Eat at

You Will Boast About This Neighborhood Eatery! By Kim Thomas All of my life I’ve heard it said you should, “Eat like a king for breakfast, a prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner.” Well, get ready to eat like a king at Toast! If you haven’t been to this little breakfast and lunch eatery in New Port Richey – you should! Really, it’s fantastic. Toast takes breakfast and lunch to a

new level with dishes that are creative, absolutely fresh and so good! Toast is conveniently located next to Bealls in the Pasco Square Mall plaza on S.R. 54 just west of where Rowan Road and Seven Springs Boulevard meet. When I visited Toast to meet the owners, Stefano and Gina Mouratos, I already knew from others at Neighborhood News & Lifestyles that I was in for a treat. Julie Kanehl wrote

Just the right amount of sweetness! Heath Pancake, Beignets, & Crunch French Toast an article for Toast in February 2012 and raves that this is still one of her favorite places in the area to eat and our GM Jim O’Reilly went in with his family and loved the family-friendly atmosphere, but most of all – the divine food! Let’s put it this way – toast isn’t just toast at Toast, it’s a gourmet experience! “The concept behind Toast is that all over Europe, toast is what they call grilled cheese,” says Stefano. “So we have taken a selection of the old classics, but we kick it up.”

They have “kicked it up” by creating an affordable breakfast and lunch menu that features gourmet ingredients – basically enabling us lucky diners to eat like a king but pay like a pauper. You get a lot for your money at Toast! The menu is small and simple but refined with European and Mediterranean flair. Stefano makes the 4 a.m. trip to Tampa to handpick the freshest produce for Toast. In addition to the spectacular everyday menu choices, there are new specials added

Mamma’s Toast is hearty and delicious! Made with meatloaf, The Mexican Pitadilla was a special made with grilled chicken, enchilada sauce and queso blanco. cheddar, onion rings and aioli. to the board every Tuesday and Friday. When Toast puts a special on the board, you can bet it is going to be a must try! Regulars check the Toast facebook page just to see what new and delicious creations are featured for the week. It’s hard to decide with so many choices, but I lucked out because Stefano and Gina had the kitchen prepare a sampling that included some comfort, some spice, and some decadent sweets! I tried a house favorite, Mamma’s Toast, and oh my goodness, it’s comfort food for certain!

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

First of all, the bread is not your ordinary loaf – it is thick-sliced, perfectly toasted and scrumptious! Mamma’s Toast boasts thin-sliced meatloaf grilled until the outer edges have a slight crunchiness, topped with cheddar, onion rings and tomato aioli, and is served with perfectly crispy fries seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, oregano and parmesan cheese – and you’ve got a meal that will carry you through your day. I also tried a Mexican Pitadilla, fantastic with housemade enchilada sauce, grilled chicken, queso blanco and served with tasty

house-made cabbage soup. If you love soup, you will love that Toast makes soup daily with ever-changing choices. Toast really delivers on the sweet stuff! How about some beignets with your breakfast N’awlins style? I’ve had them in the Big Easy and now I’ve had them right here in New Port Richey at Toast. You don’t have to travel to experience new flavor, eat at Toast and enjoy tasty dishes that take your palette on vacation! The Heath Pancakes are crazy good! The perfect balance of sweet and savory, these pancakes are strawberry infused and dusted with crushed Heath Bar candy. My favorite, though, was the Crunch French Toast, encrusted with crushed corn flakes and topped with freshly ripened strawberries and a semi-sweet cream cheese sauce. I can’t wait to take my family out to Toast - everyone at the table is going to have to order something different so we can all have a taste! Next time, someone (okay, I will!) has to order the “French Toast” with Canadian bacon, gruyer cheese (yum!), grilled onions and aioli. Toast not only has great food, but you’ll really like the people here too. The Mouratos are well known in the community. Stefano was born and raised here and his parents have owned restaurants and delis nearby for as long as he can remember. Now they pitch in to help Stefano and Gina. In fact, those fabulous house-made soups are courtesy of Stefano’s mom. And at the heart of Toast, there is Gina. Stefano, who has another job, says, “I

can’t always be here, but Gina is always here and everyone absolutely loves her.” He adds with a smile, “I think some of our customers come in just to see her.” Breakfast is served as early as 7 a.m., and with prices starting at just a couple of dollars, why would you go across the street? Whether you’d like an egg combo, pancakes or French toast, Belgium waffles, crepes or a morning sandwich, you will be glad that you started your day here. Almost all of the breakfast items are served with delicious home fries, hash browns, or grits and toast. And you can have a delicious Greek Frappe for only $2.75, made just the way they do in the old country. Lunch at Toast is a great idea! Bistro-style sandwiches, salads, wraps and pitas are menu staples. The “On the Hot Side” section of the lunch menu offers customers open face turkey and ham sandwiches, meatloaf, liver and onions, chopped steak or ribeye steak, all served with mashed potatoes and a soup or salad for an amazing price. Of course, Toast wouldn’t be Toast without its signature selection of toasted sandwiches, all of which are served with slaw. Yes, you should really try one! With Toast’s popularity and phenomenal food, there can be a short wait on weekends, but what are a few minutes when you are going to eat like a king! “People are amazed at how fast we get them seated,” says Stefano. “It never ends up being a long wait. Our food doesn’t take long to get out, and we are able to get people in quickly.” My thought is, when a place is busy, there is a reason – it’s good! Stefano and Gina are very grateful for all of the folks who dine at Toast. “It is because of the community’s support that we are successful and we are so thankful to our loyal patrons Thank You!” Toast is located at 7121 S.R. 54 in Trinity next to Bealls in the Pasco Square Mall plaza. It is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. and can be reached by phone at (727) 376-7121. “Like” Toast on facebook to keep up with the new specials on Tuesday and Friday.

You Are Priority #1 at National Rejuvenation Centers! Bartley Kerr, D.C. (CEO) · John DeCosmo, D.O. (Medical Director) · Bart Rademaker, M.D. (Board Certified Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgeon) By Julie Kanehl Are you over the age of 35? Do you feel like no matter what you try, or how much you exercise, you don’t feel like you used to? Don’t have the energy you’d like to have? Do you feel like you can’t keep up? Are you having trouble sleeping? Are you starting to chalk things up to “old age?” Stop it! This is 2014 and there are solutions! Real, customized solutions for your body, for your lifestyle, and given to you by professionals and by doctors in the field who want you to be able to live your best life now. This isn’t some fly by night cream or pill, National Rejuvenation Centers offers hormone replacement therapy that is 100% customized to your body’s biology, and what’s more, to your ideal energy level. In layman’s terms, would you like to feel like you did when you were 20? It’s possible, it’s real, and it’s happening to your friends, neighbors and maybe even your parents, so what are you waiting for?

42

National Rejuvenation Centers is located right here in our area at 34254 US Highway 19 in Palm Harbor, and boy are we lucky, because people fly in from all over the country and all over the world to receive treatment from this center. Why? Because at National Rejuvenation Centers, they do it right, they do it carefully, and they make your health and wellness their number one priority. Bartley Kerr, DC, is the founder and CEO of National Rejuvenation Centers, also known as NRC. He has been practicing since 1988, and he and his team of medical and osteopathic physicians specialize in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and optimum hormone replacement. He founded NRC with the goal to help people to live happier, longer lives, and he practices what he preaches. He, his father, and many other people that are closest to him have not only found success through his program, but have raved about it to everyone they know.

Dr. Kerr, who has a book coming out on the subject of optimum hormone replacement therapy, is looked to as an expert and ambassador on the subject. While other places may offer hormone replacement therapy, NRC is different in that each person receives a full-panel of blood work on a regular basis to continually monitor the patient’s progress and wellness. Additionally, instead of receiving hormone replacement therapy that matches your hormones to your current age, these are safely and specifically matched to be where they were when you were younger! Combined with an exercise and nutrition-based exercise program, the results are amazing, life changing and nothing short of phenomenal. It’s no wonder people call NRC the fountain of youth. Dr. Kerr explains on his blog, “Oftentimes when I meet new patients or potential patients, their fascination lies into bio identical hormone replacement and if it is right for them. I explained to them that if it is deemed

optimal hormone levels, I recommend exercise protocols specific to the goals of the patient.” There’s a reason why people fly in from all over the world to participate. It’s medical science, combined with your own individual hormone levels, and topped off with a staff that is committed 100% to helping you live your best life all the way around. World Renowned Golfer Jan Stephenson Believes in NRC! Jan Stephenson, who is from Sydney, Australia originally, stormed the world of golf, combining glamour, sex appeal and most importantly an incredible talent for the game. In the 1970s and 1980s she was featured on the cover of many sports magazines, and won her first LPGA victory in 1976, followed by consecutive wins in the early 80s in the Peter Jackson Classic (1981), LPGA Championship (1982) and U.S. Women’s Open (1983). Today, Jan is a very active member within the golf world, and is on tour regularly. Her busy schedule and lifestyle have not let up, and she continues to work out and keep to a very healthy diet. But, according to Jan, when she hit a certain age it wasn’t enough.

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

She says, “I’ve worked out my whole life, and when I turned 55 no matter how much I trained I wasn’t getting much stronger, and was getting flabby no matter what I did.” After starting the program with Dr. Kerr, I sleep better, I don’t have any night sweats, and I’m stronger.” Since becoming a patient at NRC, Jan says, “People are shocked by how strong I am, people say,

‘There’s no way!’ I’m 62, and I have a senior discount card, and people say they need to see my license and say ‘no way you’re a senior.’ I mean, I get to the front of the aerobics classes, and I keep up!” What’s important to understand is that athletes like Jan put their health at the top of their list, for if their health suffers, so does their game. What makes Jan feel so comfortable with NRC is their commitment to checking and re-checking her blood work on a regular basis. She says, I’ve met a lot of doctors who do hormone replacement therapy, but Dr. Kerr is the one that I trust.” She adds, “I tell everyone they’re crazy if they don’t go to him. I feel fantastic!” When asked how long she intends to stay on the program, Jan says, “Forever. I would never want to go back to the way I felt before. I’m a convert for life.” Local Personal Trainer Arman Eckelbarger Swears by NRC Arman Eckelbarger is a local personal trainer who helps people in Trinity, Odessa and New Port Richey reach their personal fitness goals. According to his website, www.pascocountyimpact.com, he is a NESTA (National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association) Certified IMPACT Coach, Certified Personal Trainer, Corporate Wellness Consultant and Age Management Coach. It also explains his passion for studying the topic of Age Management. What it doesn’t tell you on his website, is that he’s a huge fan of National Rejuvenation Centers! Eckelbarger is quite informed on the topic of hormone replacement therapy, for as an athlete, he too, wanted to make sure that he was making an informed choice about his health. He says, “I’ve been going there

a little over two years, and I’d probably interviewed four or five doctors because I’ve done a lot of studying on this topic, and I wanted to Arman Eckelbarger make sure if says, “NRC is the wave I was going of the future.” to do something like this, I was going to speak to someone knowledgeable.” He adds, “I had a lot of questions, and a lot of physicians don’t know a whole lot about hormones. Dr. Kerr sat down with me for more than an hour just to answer my questions.” He even speaks to his clients about NRC and what their program can do for them. He says that NRC is affordable and consistent. Eckelbarger says, “NRC is the wave of the future.” As a personal trainer, he is very careful about what he puts into his body adding, “NRC’s program is ideal because the pharmacy compounds a therapy that is bio-identical to your body alone.” You don’t have to be an athlete to want to live your best life! Don’t give into the traps of aging when you have healthy, realistic, proven and affordable options. Call NRC today and change your life. National Rejuvenation Centers is located at 34254 US 19 N in Palm Harbor. Local Author Pens The Adventures of the Magical Pajamas Series By Julie Kanehl If you have young kids, you know how the bedtime routine can go. The goal is to have a squeaky clean, happy and cuddly youngster ready to sit in your lap for a story before eagerly and excitedly hopping into bed. I mean, we’re excited about the thought of sleeping, why aren’t they? Well, one day a local father of two was wondering the same thing when his son came in to see him dressed head to toe like a firefighter – hat and all, with a book in his hand, saying “I’m ready for bed!” That same father was just about to say, “You can’t wear that to bed,” when he paused and thought, “Why not?” In fact, it spurred an idea that became a book, and that book is well on its way to becoming a popular series of children’s books that puts children right into the story, for each book comes with a matching pair of pajamas! That father is Anthony Pesce, an inspiring young man and married father of two boys. Pesce’s positive attitude and hard work ethic have made him a success in other fields of work, from owning his own car detailing

company, to doing marketing and PR for the ceiling repair company that he now owns. Pesce has more than enough to keep himself busy, but he thought that maybe a book that encouraged kids to read before bed, one that would encourage children to chase their dreams, and help with the going-to-bed-routine in the process was a good idea. He was right! Parents and kids agree! Anthony’s real passion is helping families to grow closer and spend quality time together before bed, while encouraging an early love of reading. He praises his wife, Liza, for always reading to their children every night, and believes that books, like his new series, are a great way for children to gain confidence in reading. Pesce says, “Our motto is ‘Dream big and anything can happen!’ Each book comes with a pair of pajamas that matches the ones in the book, and it makes the children feel like they’re part of the story! They get dressed up to go to bed! That’s the key to it. It lets their imagination run wild.” He adds, “It also gives kids insight into other people’s occupations.

They know what their moms and dads do, but they don’t necessarily know what other people do.” The Adventures of the Magical Pajamas series begins with main character, Jacob, who is giving his mother a hard time about getting ready for bed. Well, this smart mom offers Jacob some Magical Pajamas that happen to look like a firefighter’s suit. Jacob, who dreams of becoming a firefighter some day, jumps into his pajamas, races into bed, and is off on an adventure to save the day! Since his first book has come out, Pesce has experienced a lot of success around here, and word is getting out! He’s even been invited to share his story and his passion for young readers at local schools and churches. In fact people from all over are starting to catch on, Pesce just returned from New York City, where he had a popular booth at an Expo there. The Adventures of the Magical Pajamas was

a huge hit in NYC! Pesce says, “I’ve written 13 books in the series, and I have three books going to press right now. It’s exciting! The next three to come out feature a zookeeper, a police officer and a chef.” What a great opportunity for children to put the electronics down and spend quality time, whether parents are doing the reading, or early readers are doing the reading themselves. If you’re looking for a great book that will inspire your children to read, while teaching them about helping others, you’re going to love The Adventures of the Magical Pajamas series! “Cleaning Angels” Continued from page 1 angel. Just before passing, the lady referred to Donna as her cleaning angel. Years later, after falling and breaking her ankle, Donna hired her first employee. Now, bigger and better than ever, with 22 employees and 23 years later, Donna has built the number one cleaning service in Tampa Bay, which offers exceptional service and a superior outcome. The fully licensed, bonded and insured company provides you with a team of “cleaning angels” who are background checked, drugfree and covered by worker’s compensation. They also adhere to all OSHA rules. This is important for Donna’s employees’ protection, as well as her clients’ protection. “I have one customer who [previous to hiring Donna’s Cleaning Angels] had hired an individual who did not carry workman’s compensation,” explains Donna. “This person was not wearing non-slip shoes and ended up falling while cleaning the shower and hitting her head sustaining a serious injury. She sued the homeowner and won. My clients don’t have to worry about that because I carry the liability.”

54

Donna’s Cleaning Angels work as a team, and they are always presentable and friendly, with matching uniforms and non-slip shoes. They bring everything they need to provide you with an exceptional cleaning. Donna explains, “My teams come in with a large canvas kit with all of their cleaning supplies, all of which are of the highest quality and kept in separate plastic bags. The cleaning teams are trained on what products to use. We never use bag-less vacuums because they are unsanitary. Our vacuums are commercial grade, and include a stair vacuum, an upright vacuum and a canister vacuum. The bags are changed often and they are checked and wiped down before every clean.” Donna continues, “I offer a very unique and personable cleaning service. My teams spend twice the time as other services for less money. There is a lot more to providing a good cleaning service than just the cleaning. It’s the care and professionalisms that comes from all of us, from management, to the scheduling, down to the teams who really care about doing a great job.” The cleaning teams check off a list, covering everything from baseboards to the ceiling fans to the stainless steel hood over the stove.
