Thirteen Santas managed to visit nearly 130 kids in West Pasco in late December showering them with gifs of all kinds, and the the joy on their faces was something to behold. John Hudson, a long-time member of the New Port Richey Rotary Club, introduced his concept for Rotary Santa ten years ago. During that time the Rotary Santa project has “adopted” more than 300 families and provided gifts for 1,000 local children. John passed away last summer, but grieving club members knew that this special project must go on. Kim Hudson, John’s daughter and a NPR Rotarian, spoke at a recent club meeting this month. “Thank you

so much to the Rotary Club of New Port Richey and all those who contributed to keep my dad's legacy going. The John Hudson Rotary Santa program delivered gifts to 126 children from 40 families in the West Pasco area,” she said. “Santa is real, don't let anyone ever tell you different,” she added. The club also provides food for a holiday meal for the families and a special gift for the moms. Making the deliveries is always fun and somewhat magical. A club member, Randy Amundson, offers the use an old-fashioned stagecoach he owns and also takes it around to all the homes. Three local Interact club members also get involved as elves complete in costume and jingle bell hats.] Prior to the big day several members of the club gather at the Genesis Prep’s assembly hall and wrap the gifts that were purchased by club members using John’s lists. It takes a lot of people, paper and trimmings, but the wrapping gets done and on time. Carrabba’s kindly provides a buffet of food for the happy wrappers to enjoy. The River Ridge Rotary Interact students also got involved this past fall and raised money for Rotary Santa

and presented a check for $2,000 to the club. The New Port Richey Rotary Club was established in 1959 and meets every Wednesday for lunch at noon at the Spartan Manor in New Port Richey. Play the 2nd Annual Kimberly Knorr Golf Tournament and Support Wheelchairs 4 Kids to Help Provide More Great Events Like the Wheely Winter Christmas! Wheelchairs 4 Kids is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing equipment for children with mobility challenges. Events are planned throughout the year for the “Wheel Kids,” including attending WWE events and Washington Nationals baseball games. In December the kids loved spending a Wheely Winter Christmas with Winter the Dolphin and Santa Claus at the 5th annual event held at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. The evening began with the kids and their families having dinner at the Palm Pavilion. Ken Hamilton, owner of the Palm Pavilion donates dinner for all of the families every year! The kids also were able to visit and interact with dolphins Winter, Hope and Nicholas. The night ended with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus giving presents to the children. One of the families in attendance was Tom and Mindy with their son,

Hunter, who has spina-bifida. Hunter received an adaptive bicycle to increase leg strength and stamina from the organization two years ago. Hunter was able to interact with Winter during the night's occasion. Hunter remarked, “He was very soft. And I got wet from head to toe!” Wheelchairs 4 Kids’ Executive Director, Madeline Robinson, commented about the occasion. “Our kids love Winter so much! Some of them have braces that are made by the same company that made Winter’s tail. They love spending time with the inspiring dolphin!” The Clearwater Marine Aquarium and Wheelchairs 4 Kids have collaborated on this event for five years. “We are honored to host the Wheelchairs for Kids families at Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Their work of inspiring kids is exactly what Winter’s story is designed to do,” stated Executive Director of the Aquarium,

She has held other positions within Adventist Health including Vice President of Business Development and Marketing, Vice President of Operations and Planning, where she led the growth of Orthopedics, Cardiac Services and Cancer Center Services.
