Dormiendo said, “Any interested party within the region can avail of the tissue
-cultured banana planting materials on a proposal basis.” The lab is set to mass produce quality banana planting materials like Cardava. Banana is the second high value crop produced in Talacogon; planted in 900 hectares by more than 600 farmers.
Trento, Agusan del Sur receives PhP8.6M agri support by Emmylou T. Presilda, Department of Agriculture-Caraga
The Municipal Government of Trento, Agusan del Sur received a grant of PhP8.6 million for livelihood projects. The Department of Agriculture’s Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP) gave the PhP5 million while the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) funded P3.655 million. The MRDP component will support seven organizations that are engaged in rubber-
based farming and three organizations, which will buy hauling equipment. On the other hand, the GPB fund will support six organizations with the following projects: swine breeding, pre and postharvest facilities, repair and rehabilitation of consolidation center, draft animal with forage and pasture project, high value crops demo farm, and upland rice production.
Likewise, LGU Trento also received 21,000 pieces of assorted planting materials for growing high value crops.
