A comparison among different perspectives will help also clarify some topics that, being relevant in the reflection of the three proponents of the symposium, are indeed pivotal to the scientific-informed reflection concerning music: 1) to what extent is plausible a computationally and cognitively inspired quantitative study of music, especially of musical emotions? What are the epistemological problems that this formal approach to the music raises? 2) is it possible to solve, on a scientific basis, philosophical disagreements concerning the relation between music and emotion, and in particular the contrast between isomorphism and arousalism? Is the Musical Persona Theory only an odd philosophical fancy? 3) is it possible, on the basis of new scientific data and (old and new) philosophical reflections, to develop a scientific music therapy, aiming at scaffolding emotional understanding and interpersonal communication in cases of mild or even serious deficits?
