Spotlight on

LOUISE CAMPBELL-TOLBER & STEVE TOLBER

Deciding to become involved with NDI New Mexico was “easy” for Louise and Steve. They were introduced to the organization by Medora Jennings when it was first getting started in Albuquerque in 1995. Visiting a public elementary outreach class, they were impressed with the positive messages and seeing children “happy, healthy, and working together as a team.” That class visit led to conversations with community members wanting to bring NDI to Albuquerque, which led to more class visits and attending stage performances, and eventually a pre-renovation tour of The Hiland Theater. Louise says she “always loved going to The Hiland Theater as a young child to watch cartoons, then as a teenager to watch movies on a date.” It’s no surprise that she was thrilled when Bernalillo County was willing to form a partnership with NDI New Mexico to expand programming to more children in the community. Louise co-chaired NDI New Mexico’s public campaign to raise funding for the renovation and kick-start NDI’s afterschool programming. “We decided to buy a star for the kids – the real Stars in all this; and, we decided to leave a lasting legacy in our wills by becoming Silver Sneakers Legacy Society members. We hope others reading this will feel the same and consider supporting NDI New Mexico in this truly special way.” For Louise and Steve, NDI is about success and excellence on every level – from teacher-student relationships to the impact on students and the community at large – the professionalism of the staff, the energy of the volunteers, and the organization’s commitment to sustainability is profound. Louise and Steve have both served as volunteers to NDI New Mexico, she on the Board of Directors and he as a member of the Corporate Council. Their refrigerator is covered with Thank You Project notes that continually remind them that “the bottom-line is that NDI helps children, and they are our future.”
