I know a road trip to Yakima may seem a bit boring, and I promise to deliver more exciting road trip ideas in future issues, but as the premiere issue of Kid Connect, I thought it would be a great way to show you all where I came from and hopefully show you that Yakima CAN be a bit exciting. Of course, having family in the town always makes it that much more enjoyable….! Technically, I grew up in Moxee, but since it is just 4 miles outside of town, it’s easier to say I grew up in Yakima. Having said that, there are actually quite a few fun things to do for kids in Yakima and I will share just a few of those here with you. Yakima is just a short 2 hour drive from Wenatchee, whether you take Blewett Pass or travel through Quincy. It’s a perfect distance if your kids are still taking naps! When my family plans a trip to Yakima, we leave at nap time and allow the girls to get a good nap in and then we head back home at bedtime and are able to just scoop the kids up and put them in their beds when we get home. They miss out on bath that night, but it’s worth it! A great place to start once you get to Yakima is Kids Castle. It is a huge indoor play area inside of Gymnastics Plus where the kiddos can get all their energy out plus more. They can climb, slide, go through the obstacle course, run through the tunnels and more! The best day to go is Wednesday when 2 kiddos can play for the price of one! After expending all that energy, the kiddos would get a kick out of visiting the Museum Soda Fountain. The Museum Soda Fountain is a working exhibit of a late 1930’s soda fountain. Sodas, sundaes, and milkshakes are created with Tillamook ice cream. Hot dogs, chili, soup and sandwiches are also available. This is a must see to appreciate! It is located in the Yakima Valley Museum and is open in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Next, head over to the Skateland Fun Center. This is a great place to get some exercise, have some fun, and learn a new skill (or maybe a few new tricks!). Though, during the week, Skateland is only open Wednesday afternoons or
