Phytochemicals and the Garden to Table Connection

Let’s follow our food from the farm all the way to your table.

Meet Farmer Fran! She wakes up early every morning to care for her crops.
She plants seeds, waters them and makes sure they get plenty of sunshine.
The plants grow into fruits and vegetables— juicy tomatoes, crunchy carrots and sweet strawberries!
Farmer Fran says, “Good food starts with good care!”

Once the crops are ready, it’s time for processing!
The fruits and veggies are washed, sorted and sometimes cut or cooked before they’re packed.
This helps keep them safe and fresh for everyone to enjoy.

Next, the food begins its big journey!
Trucks, trains and ships carry it to different places—sometimes near, sometimes far away.

“Hold on tight!” says the Carrot Crew. “We’re on the move!”

Finally, the food reaches the grocery store!
Workers unpack the boxes, arrange the shelves and make everything look bright and tasty.
Families come in to shop, filling their carts with fresh fruits, vegetables, bread and more.
“Look, Mom! These strawberries came from Farmer Fran’s farm!”

Now it’s time to eat!
After all that hard work—from the farmer’s field to the store—your food is ready to share.
Every meal is a team effort, from the people who grow it to the ones who cook it.
“Thank you, farmers, helpers and transporters!” says everyone at the table.
