L atinos and H ealth Coverage: A r kansas by the Numbers L atinos1 are more likely to be uninsured than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. +RZHYHU +LVSDQLF IDPLOLHVœ DFFHVV WR KHDOWK LQVXUDQFH YDULHV E\ VWDWH (see F igure 1). In A r kansas: ™ L atinos have inadequate access to the cur rent health coverage system. In 2008, only one-third (33.4%) of all Latinos living in Arkansas had employer-sponsored health insurance, and almost one-fifth (18.6%) were covered by Medicaid or the &KLOGUHQœV +HDOWK ,QVurance Program.2 ™ As a result, L atino families are at risk for uninsurance. That year, nearly one-half (47.3%) of Latinos in Arkansas were uninsured, and about one in four (25.7%) Latino children under age 18 had no form of health coverage.3 ™ L atinos are over represented among the uninsured. Although Hispanics made up 5.2% of the total state population in 2008, they represented 13.7% of ArkansasœV uninsured.4
