What Can a Lawyer do for You? Most of the time when people think of a lawyer it is the image of two well educated men exchanging interrogations of witnesses in the high drama of the courtroom that comes to mind. This is sometimes exactly what they do, but lawyers perform a lot of other functions too. Let us take a look at the types of law these Los Angeles Lawyers practice. Most lawyers start out taking the basics of law in their first few years of attorneys school and then switch to a more specialized type of learning. They become skilled at their chosen field by serving long apprenticeships to hone their skills and prepare them to go out on their own eventually. With so many different types of law specialties this is a requirement to succeed.  Intellectual Property Law - Intellectual property (IP) is a general category of law that deals with the acquisition and enforcement of patents, trademarks, and copyright.  Patent Law - Patents grant an inventor a limited period of exclusive rights to a human-made invention or an improvement on an existing invention, providing the United States Patent and Trademark Office deems it worthy of both technical and legal merit.  Constitutional Law - Often considered one of the broadest and involved branches of rule, Constitutional attorney requires nothing short of a crystal-clear understanding of the U.S. Constitution.  First Amendment Law – laws pertaining to interpreting the first amendment of the Bill of Rights; freedom of speech, religion, press, and assembly are among the rights that often come into question.  Criminal law - as was sated before it is the most visible of all of the areas of law, in terms of application to daily life and public portrayal.  Admiralty Law - Also referred to as Maritime Law, this body of rule pertains to the regulation of navigation and shipping.  Business Law - business law deals with any aspect of the rule having to do with industry and commerce--from taxes and liability to licensing and trademarking.  Environmental Law - Environmental law comes from a group of federal enactments passed in 1970 that forced agencies and businesses to take into account the effect of their practices on the environment  Health Care Law – an expanding field because of all the legal issues surrounding the health care field.

So as you can see there is a lot more to lawyers than just appearing in the high drama of the courtroom. Los Angeles Lawyers need to continually become updated on new laws and business practices to stay proficient in the type of attorney that they practice. This is not easy, but the high quality of legal representation in the area shows it can be done.
