Getting Started on Twitter

Go to http://twitter.com/ Sign up for a twitter account if you don’t have one. Sign in to your twitter account if you already have one.


If you have not created an account, you will see this screen:


You may see a screen that looks like this:

This is asking if you want it to import your email contacts. You don’t have to do this. Notice at the very bottom, you can click Skip this step.


Twitter will then make suggestions about people you might want to consider following. You can choose which ones you would like or you can once again Skip this step.


You should then see this screen:


Now you are set to do several things: 1. You can post an update.

2. You can update your Profile. Click on Profile located in the upper right.

Having a photo on Twitter is very important.


Under the account tab, you can update the following information: Name, Username, Email. You can include the url of your personal webpage or blog. You can compose a one line bio. This is really important because sometimes people will not follow you or allow you to follow them without a legitimate bio. You can set your location and language. Finally, you can protect your tweets which makes them private and not public. At the very bottom of the page, you can Delete your account at any time.
