The congregation of "Cinco Señores " was established in 1598 by missionaries of the Society of Jesus. The area was devastated after the war with the Tarahumaras. Around 1715, Governor Manuel S. Juan de Santa Cruz gave precise orders for the town of Cinco Señores del Río de las Nazas to be founded, with the parish being erected in 1753.
