embers and supporters of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ) gathered from March 1012, 2022 for the 22nd Annual Midyear Meeting at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel. It was a joyous occasion, and for many judges, the first time they got to see one another since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the previous in-person NAWJ gathering, the 2021 Annual Meeting in Nashville, President Hon. Elizabeth A. White (ret.) shared that NAWJ’s theme of the year is “Effecting Change: Drawing from our Past and Embracing our Future.” The events at this year’s Midyear reflected that theme. the mentoring session, judges shared their reflections about joining the bench, working in private practice and public interest, and balancing motherhood and a successful career. Students came away from the session with insight from pioneers in the legal profession and contact information to follow up if they wished to continue the conversation. Following the Law Student Mentorship Program, the conference transitioned to its Opening Reception, celebrating the International Day of Women Judges. President White shared remarks to begin the conference, giving attendees a preview of the events to follow, and Judge Lisa Walsh introduced special guests, three Afghan Women Judges. Each of the three Afghan Women Judges themselves delivered heartfelt remarks briefly describing their stories and expressing their gratitude for NAWJ members.
