The 2015-16 season will be Ashley Langford’s first as a member of the Navy coaching staff. Langford spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Denver. Among her various duties with the Pioneers was serving as the recruiting coordinator, coaching the backcourt players and being the team’s offensive coordinator. The native of Harrisburg, Pa., began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Auburn –– from which she earned a Master’s Degree in 2012 –– for two seasons (2009-10, 2010-11) and one year as an assistant coach at Bucknell (2011-12) before moving to Denver. Langford was a standout guard and student while at Tulane. The 2009 graduate of the school scored 1,047 points and remains the program’s career leader in games started (119), minutes played (4,162), assists (722) and assists per game (6.0). She was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team in 2006, was a third-team all-conference honoree in each of her remaining three seasons and was selected as a Freshman All-American by the Women’s Basketball News Service. The Green Wave amassed an overall record of 75-47 during her four years, a span that included a 26-7 record in 2007 when the team won the Conference USA regular season title and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. Off the court, Langford was named the 2009 C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She also received the conference’s Postgraduate Scholarship and Spirit of Service Award that same season. Langford graduated from Tulane in 2009 with bachelor’s degrees in management and marketing (double major) before heading to C-USA as an intern in the Sports Services, Finance and Marketing Departments. Langford previously interned in the Tulane athletics office in 2008, assisting with sales promotions and the National Basketball Events in Chicago, as well as managing a facility for the Nike Girls’ Basketball Tournament in 2007.
Rebecca Tillett begins her second year as a member of the Navy coach staff in the fall of 2015. Her initial season at Navy saw the Mids tally an overall record of 17-14, finish in a tie for fourth place in the Patriot League standings with a 10-8 record and reach the semifinal round of the league tournament. Tillett arrived on The Yard after spending the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Crimson Hawks posted an 18-10 record a year ago and during the season were ranked as high as No. 20 in the WBCA Division II Coaches Poll. Prior to entering the collegiate ranks at IUP during the summer of 2013, Tillett spent six seasons as the varsity head coach at Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, Va. She compiled an overall record of 122-39 and guided the school to four district crowns, three district tournament titles, three regional championships and three additional appearances is the region semifinals. The Bruins advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2009 state tournament, the semifinals of the event in 2011 and reached the state title game in 2008. Tillett’s players went on to play basketball on the collegiate level at schools such as Virginia, George Washington, Holy Cross, James Madison, George Mason and Dartmouth. She herself was lauded with multiple awards during her stint there. Tillett was named the Northwest Region Coach of the Year (2008, ‘09, ‘11), the Cardinal District Coach of the Year (2008, ‘09, ‘10), the News and Messenger Coach of the Year (2009, ‘10) and the Washington Post Coach of the Year for the Prince William Section (2008). Tillett (nee Nemerow) graduated from William & Mary (Dec. 1999) where she served as the captain of the basketball team during her senior season. She has held teaching positions at both elementary and high schools in Virginia and was tabbed as the KidBiz3000 Teacher of the Year in 2006. Her coaching career began when she served as an assistant on the varsity level and head coach of the junior varsity team at Jamestown High School (Williamsburg, Va.) during her final year at William & Mary. Tillett would soon move on to coach the junior varsity team for two years and the varsity squad for four years at Osbourn Park High School (Manassas, Va.). In all, she has compiled an overall record of 166-72 as a head coach.
