eople, Pets & Vets, sponsored by the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), in collaboration with Macomb Community College’s Veterinary Technology Program are celebrating 10 years of "family fun and learning about animals and proper animal care." A variety of exhibits will be offered at this free event, Saturday, November 2nd from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Macomb Community College. Exhibits include: anatomy, heartworm and parasite prevention, dogs with jobs, veterinary rehabilitation, pet first aid and more. Children will get one-onone time with veterinarians and a variety of animals. In addition, the MVMA Healthy Pet Surgical Suite will provide attendees with the option to watch a real spay surgery. The Teddy Bear Clinic will be ready to care for "wounded" stuffed animals, so be sure to bring your stuffed animals for a free checkup, and surgery if needed. Dr. Tari Kern, event organizer, invites families to come participate in "a free, extraordinary, fun and educational experience for the entire family!" Ferndale Talk on Industrialized Animal Slaughter

n Thursday, November 21st at 7pm, the Michigan Humane Society and the Animals and Society Institute will co-host “Every Twelve Seconds: Industrialized Slaughter and the Politics of Sight” with Dr. Timothy Pachirat, Assistant Professor in the Department of Politics at The New School for Social Research. The event will be held at the Kulick Community Center in Ferndale. "This talk," explains Dr. Pachirat, "brings to life the massive, routine killing of animals for human consumption, from the perspective of those who take part in it.” Tickets for this event are $20 each (plus tax) and will be available at MichiganHumane.org/speakers through November 20th.
