Lukungu mask, used during the Bwami Society initiation rite, the masks refer to ancestors and are passed from one generation of initiates to the next as symbols of continuity. The dotted-circle motifs represent body markings, which enhance both the carvings and the characters they depict. Varied honey brown patina. Provenance: Acquired from Benoît Rousseau, Belgium.
