The use of letters at weddings is very popular this year and this is probably why you are struggling to obtain any. However, Shop-4.co.uk have a range of letters in

stock so it’s definitely worth looking on their website. If you’re

Q&A With Stephen Ellwood SMJE Photography

Q How long have you been a photographer? A I took up photography around 5 years ago, which began in Milan where I was

looking at the old style buildings and took an image of 3 statues and it stemmed from there.

Q How would you describe your photography style? A To be honest, I don't believe I actually have a certain 'style’. I love taking natural

shots of laughter and joy, watching and waiting for someone to laugh or cry or

simply catching someone stood in natural light smiling. Staged images have their place and I enjoy doing them with beautiful backgrounds, a sunset, an ocean or simply a field with flowers and trees.

MONEY Matters

save before you fly Here are some great money saving tips before you jet off on your honeymoon or holiday... 1. Ask for water on the plane Don’t fork out for bottled water on the plane. If you take an empty bottle through customs you can ask your air steward to fill it up for you on your flight.

2. Park on a driveway If you’re driving to the airport, ditch the pricey car park and check out locals’ driveways. Many rent them out for holidaymakers to leave their car there for a few days at a much more competitive price.

3. Do your research to avoid baggage charges You’d be surprised by how much hotels will provide for you, so make sure you do your research before cramming in your hair dryer and extra towels.

4. Weigh your bags at home It’s not worth risking it so plonk your suitcase on some scales to weigh it before you go to avoid any fees.

5. Buy snacks before you get to the airport Dry snacks like crisps and biscuits can be taken on the plane so stock up before you’re roped into expensive airport offerings.

6. Don’t be afraid to ask for free things If you’re holidaying to celebrate a special event like a wedding or birthday, tell the airline staff. They may be willing the upgrade you for free. If you’re travelling alone it’s easier to upgrade you too so it’s always worth asking. The worst that will happen is a polite no.

7. Invest in a portable charger Airports do having charging points but they are always very busy and often you can’t get a seat next to the outlet so you have to leave your phone unattended. Get a portable charger and save the hassle.

8. Skip the taxi When you arrive at your destination within sociable hours, don’t just hop in a taxi but check out public transport options as well. If there’s a metro or bus service that will definitely be cheaper than a cab. The research from Swedish challenger Ikano Bank also found that more than 300,000 people who borrowed money for their wedding wasted more than £450 by not shopping around for the best deal. Here Money Doctor, Fergus Muirhead, advises prospective brides and grooms not to get sucked into to the fun bit straight away, he said: “Weddings are a big thing, they take months to plan but we know ironically that when it comes to financing them, prospective brides and grooms spend barely any time looking into the most suitable options. If you are going to borrow money to pay for your wedding then you need to do your homework. Spend a few hours looking at all the options available to you and work out how you’re going to pay for it all before you jump into the first loan or credit agreement that you see.” Here’s what you could buy if you spent a little bit longer shopping around for the right loan at a better rate for your wedding: • More than 50 bottles of wine • The dream DJ • A giant wedding cake

9. Download Google maps offline If you’re on a phone contract with limited data or that charges more for use abroad, download all the maps you think you will need before you set off. Screen shot them then you can use them as you please when you’re away.

10. Check currency rates in advance Try not to leave it to the last minute to get your cash for your holiday. Getting currency converted at a better rate will save you a fortune so do your research sooner rather than later.

11. Book somewhere with breakfast included Paying that little extra for breakfast may be worth it. If it’s buffet style you can stock up for lunch to save you spending more money on that.

12. Fly red eye If you don’t mind travelling late at night, book a red eye flight. Not only will it be cheaper but also the airport will be quieter at that time meaning shorter queues and less stress.

13. Pack a child’s car seat for free

• Extra special frills for your honeymoon

If you’re going to be using a car with your little on whilst you’re on holiday, you’ll

• Make-up and hair styling for your bridesmaids

need a car seat. Most places charge on average up to £5/per day to hire but you can

• Taxis for your guests to the reception

avoid this by just taking your own. Most airlines will allow this in addition to your

• An extra hour of live music • Extra flowers for the venue • Upgrade your room on your wedding night

To find out more about Ikano Bank’s simple low cost personal loans visit www.ikano.co.uk/loans

8 www.nwmag.co.uk

14. Speak to your bank and credit card providers Some branches don’t charge for transactions abroad but some do or will shut down your card if they think there’s suspicious activity. Give them a call before you go to let them know and they should be able to advise you on the best way to pay while you’re away.

EDITOR'S Choice

Hoar Cross Hall Your choice of venue sets the theme and style of your day. Whether you want a small, personal wedding or a large formal affair, your

venue is key! Get this right and the rest will fall into place. To this end I decided to visit Hoar Cross Hall in Staffordshire. Hoar Cross

Hall’s history is steeped in romance so I met with General Manager, John Higham to find out all about the Hall and what it can offer couples for their special day.

10 www.nwmag.co.uk

You simply can’t ignore the grandeur that greets you as you arrive at Hoar Cross Hall. You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d travelled back in time as lofty gables, turreted water towers, chiselled chimneys and mullioned windows greet you around every corner. I was invited to spend two nights at the Hall. The grand entrance hall and the decadent Long Gallery lead to a series of rooms, each one as breath taking as the last. Intricate ceilings, stained glass windows, wooden panelling, hand-carved marble fireplaces, rich tapestries, sumptuous wallpaper and glistening chandeliers echo the past. This magnificent Grade II listed stately home cleverly combines historic 19th century Jacobean overtones with state of the art facilities. The staff members are an asset to the Hall. Professional, polite and extremely friendly, all members of staff seem willing to help with anything and rather than simply serving you, are happy to stop and chat, making you feel important and valued - something Hoar Cross Hall should be immensely proud of. This level of service surpasses many others I’ve visited. Perceived as one of the UK’s top Spa Resorts, Hoar Cross Hall focuses on balancing the body and mind, restoring a sense of calm and promoting a general feeling of wellbeing. You can immerse yourself in serene spa pools and soothing water therapies and

REAL LIFE WEDDING

Julia & Adrian 30th May 2016 Kilworth House Hotel,

Leicestershire Images courtesy of SMJE Photos

Family, including my parents, sisters, Brother in Laws, Nice and Nephew all travelled from as far as the North and South of Scotland to help us celebrate which is why we wanted somewhere easily accessible to the motorway network.

We were really keen to choose sa venue we’d remember forever. We wanted our day to be personal, spending plenty of time with our friends and family. Kilworth House took our breath away.

The Groom purchased matching Jeff Banks Cufflinks for himself, his Best Man and Son of the Bride.

Julia’s shoes were white with glistening diamante on the straps. They matched the dress perfectly.

Adrian and his Best Man, Steve along with my Son Luke, who gave me away wore Navy Blue Sim-Fit style suits from Youngs Hire – www.youngs-hire.co.uk

on Granby St, Leicester. “I thought I wanted an evening dress and nothing too fancy, what with me having been married before and I only had a small budget. However, my sister pointed out that I’d never been married to Ade before and that put a new perspective on things for me. I managed to get a last minute appointment at Berketex Brides. They were really helpful and I had a wonderful experience, drinking Champagne and trying on last seasons’ wedding dresses which were on the sale rack. I narrowed it down to two dresses and finally made a decision. My dress only cost me £150.00 and I love it!

The Bridesmaid’s were my Daughter Emma as well as nieces, Charlotte and Sophie, however, Nephew Daniel stole the show in his tartan kilt!

Adrian made pieces of wood into centrepieces and Julia arranged a vase and flowers on them for a simple, yet elegant look. It was finished off with wooden confetti from shop-4.co.uk

Adrian is a real joker and wanted the whole day to be fun and relaxed.

10 ON TREND Accessories for the Groom

1

THE CLASSIC CUFFLINK

Essentially you can never go wrong with a classic design. Timeless and elegant you will be sure to ooze style and grace in fitting with the ceremonious nature of the day. Do think about the colour though – ideally match to the colour of the groom’s wedding ring for a harmonious look after you’ve said your vows.

2

THE NOVELTY CUFFLINK

A sense of humour never goes a miss at a wedding and novelty cufflinks are a fabulous way of showing you’re up for having fun. If you’re attracted to novelty cufflinks then the likelihood is that you’ll be able to pull off the look. Our only advice - beware of over doing it – too brash and they may have the opposite effect. Oh and we’d probably check with the bride beforehand!

ADD SOME SPARKLE If bling is your thing and you want to inject some additional sparkle into your wedding, then consider something with crystals. Featured within classic or novelty cufflinks and lapel pins, crystals are a great way of revealing your inner flamboyance.

THE PATRIOTIC CUFFLINK If you're looking to show off your national pride, then these cufflinks are a must.

COLOUR OR THEME Many weddings have a specific colour or theme, so if this is you, then why not look to colour co-ordinate your accessories with your bride or take inspiration from your theme. From pastel colours, to vintage style, there are plenty of opportunities for the guys at the wedding to be included.

7

LAPEL PINS

Generally the realm of the flower button hole at a wedding, the lapel offers a perfect opportunity to show your individuality. Instead of a real flower you may prefer to honour an age old tradition by giving it a modern twist with a wooden or metal alternative! On the other hand you could make a personal statement of your own with something very distinctive. The choice is yours!

A LASTING ATTACHMENT

Buying accessories that you are likely to wear again, not only makes financial sense, but also leaves you with a great keepsake. Wearing a reminder of your special day on a regular basis will give you a nice warm feeling inside and is something that you can treasure for many years to come.

AND ALL THE GROOMSMEN

Don’t forget the groomsmen. It’s not just the groom that needs accessorising, but all the groomsmen as well. Whether you decide to keep them all the same, or mix and match with a variety of colours or designs, there’s no better way of showing your appreciation for their support before and during the wedding, than presenting them with stylish accessories to wear on the day.

TIE CLIPS

10

TIE SLIDES One final accessory to complete the look is an elegant tie slide. It's not only stylish, but functional too - helping you keep your tie out of your soup and your beer! You can match it to your other items, or go it alone with an individual piece.

Delicate fibre optics, enamel and mother of pearl in warm pastel hues are a perfect pairing to this season’s

colour palette, whilst bold vintage designs with antique finishes pay homage to the good old days. For effortless style and elegance classic, yet contemporary designs, provide a timeless beauty so grooms can dress with a quiet confidence and maturity. British high end men’s accessories brand Elizabeth Parker has released its 2016 Wedding Collection. Comprising a selection of cufflinks, lapel pins, tie slides and dress studs, which have been chosen for their eclectic mix of colour, texture and form, the wedding collection has a genuine multiplicity that enables couples to accessorise their outfits for their special day.

Shan Burdett, Managing Director at Elizabeth Parker comments “I wanted to put together a collection that gave every bride and groom the opportunity not only to coordinate their accessories with their outfits and theme of their wedding, but also to choose a design that celebrates their individualism and personality. With colour also featuring heavily in wedding themes for 2016 we’ve looked to expand our range with a

selection of both bold and pastel alternatives.” Elizabeth Parker accessories are available via their website: www.elizabethparker.co.uk. Prices range from £5 to £80 depending upon material and design, with free standard delivery on all UK orders. From BEST MAN to WORST MAN:

10 Things to Avoid When Planning Your Speech It’s that time of the year – wedding season is almost upon us and we couldn’t be more excited! We love that weddings are all about celebrating romance and unity, but we can’t deny that we also love to get dressed up, eat and drink to our heart’s content, and dance the night away. Spending the day with friends and family watching two loved ones tie the knot is wonderful – with so much happiness in one room, what could possibly go wrong? Unfortunately, quite a lot! For the groom, one of the most nerve-wracking parts of

HACKING Your Packing...

The team at PromotionalCodes.org.uk have looked into some of the best hacks out there to save you space, money and time when packing your bags for your holidays.

1. Cotton pad Place a cotton ball or pad over powdered make up to stop it from breaking up when your luggage is thrown around.

2. Dryer sheets Chuck in some dryer sheets into your luggage to stop your dirty laundry stinking up the rest of your clothes.

3. Buttons Use buttons to pack earrings to stop them getting tangled or lost.

If you’re bringing back anything made of glass, wrap them in the kids arm bands to protect them.
