Kaduna Refinery Resumes Dec –NNPC

Ife Royal Family Cries Foul Over Screening By OGUNOJEMITE AYODELE & ADEBAYO NURUDEEN THE Geisi Royal Family of Ile-Ife seems unsettled at the moment as some princes are said to be protesting what they describe a “mushroom” screening of princes of the family who are interested in the throne. National Weekender gathered from our source in Ile-Ife that these princes are not comfortable with the way the screening was conducted and alleged foul play. They insist that they are still qualified to succeed the late Oba OkunadeSijuade as the next Ooni of Ife since it is the Ifa oracle that will eventually pick the next Ooni. According to our source, the princes are confident that they are still in the race and stand a chance

despite that through screening, the family had adopted Prince Ramon Adegoke as the consensus candidate of the family. It was gathered that Prince SikiruAyedun, one of the contestants to the throne from Geisi Ruling House said that nobody has been endorsed by the Ruling House. “The GeisirRyal Family is unsettled at the moment as some princes are not comfortable with the consensus candidate arrangement. According to them, since the screening was conducted, attention has moved from them and concentrated on Prince Ramon Adegoke alone, while some people are already seeing him as the next Ooni. “The princes are confident that they are still in the race and insists, that the arrangement does not

necessarily mean that they cannot be chosen by the Ifa as the next Ooni. “Many of them are not happy with the outcome of the screening, claiming that it sends the wrong message to the public and the kingmakers. Some even questioned the criteria used and the basis for the screening since the entire town rely on the kingmakers and the oracle to choose the next Ooni” he said. Recall that members of the Geisi Ruling House had met at the family compound at Agbedegbede Lane in Ile-Ife to screen Princes in a bid to produce a consensus candidate. At the conclusion of the screening, Prince Ramon Adegoke emerged the consensus candidate of the family. The screening council submitted its report to the head of the family, Prince ModupeFadehan.

THE Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has disclosed that Kaduna Refinery will resume the production of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS (petrol), within the next three months. This was even as NNPC stated that it had lifted the embargo earlier placed on 113 vessels, banning them from engaging in crude oil and gas loading activities in any of the terminals within Nigerian territorial waters. In a statement by NNPC in Abuja, Group Managing Director of the corporation, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, stated that the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit, FCCU, and the fuel section of the refinery would be brought back to life within this period to ensure that Nigerians continue to enjoy uninterrupted supply of petroleum products. Kachikwu, who stated this during a facility tour of the Kaduna Refining Petrochemical Company, KRPC, said the refinery will get a turn around that will make it commercially sustainable. He said: “All the component units of the refinery, including the FCCU and the fuel section, will be fully rehabilitated for resumption of crude supply to the plant. “You will soon have a different company; we must do all it takes to make this company a success.” He stressed the need for the establishment of more refineries, especially in view of the low refining capacity of the country, adding that NNPC is planning to build additional refineries. He said: “I am pushing to build new refineries next to our existing

plants to boost the nation’s refining capacity for the common good. “The new refineries will be developed by private investors and NNPC’s role will be just to provide them with space close to the existing refineries to enable them share key facilities such as pipelines and storage facilities.” Also speaking, Group Executive Director, Refining & Technology, Mr. Dennis Ajulu, expressed optimism in the ability of NNPC to rise above its challenges and reposition itself on the path of profitability. Managing Director of KRPC, Engr. Saidu Mohammed, said staff of the company were fully aligned to the vision of commercialization and that they would support Kachikwu in that drive. On the embargo on the 113 oil vessels, NNPC stated that the lifting of the ban is subject to the receipt of Letters of Comfort from all terminal operators, oil companies and off-takers of Nigerian oil and gas as guarantee that nominated vessels, pending the outcome of investigation, are unencumbered and would not be utilized for any illegal activity. The corporation noted that in view of the above, Federal Government had approved the establishment of an inter-agency committee comprising Department of State Services, DSS; Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA; Nigerian Navy, Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR and NNPC with the mandate to collect data and investigate the activities of the banned vessels within Nigerian territorial waters.

Uncertainty Surrounds Ooni Of Ife, Oba Of Benin, Olu Of Warri Coronations!!!

•Oba of Benin, Erediauwa

By EMIKO BAKE FIRST, it was the demise of the Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa that swept in, hitting Nigerians’ ear drums with an alarming shock ... it was shrouded for close to three months though, but somehow, since the Lion’s sneak into the forest, was like smoke that could not be hidden, the news filtered in. Next, was the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade whose journey to join his ancestors could not be enveloped in a capsule, as he inhaled his last breath in faraway from his domain - a London hospital. And barely a week ago, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II followed suit – joined the Ile Ife and the Oba of Benin Monarchs in their Royal trip to, as a Warri source

•Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade

cynically put it; “in their voyage to hold a Royal meeting with their ancestors.” However, their respective sojourns to the great beyond, is not the crux of the matter now; what is, is that unlike their respective predecessors, finding a traditionally blessed and culturally accepted candidate to mount the thrones as demanded of the culture and traditions of all three kingdoms, is shrouded in uncertainty. In Ile Ife, the king makers are relying on whose head the Oracle’ pendulum swings, but with members of one of the Ruling Houses – Giesi still at each others’ throat over the choice of a candidate from their Royal Home to present to the king makers, for their onward presentation alongside other Royal Families’ choices, who will in turn be presented at the Oracle

Shrine, has been a knotty issue. In Benin, the mute palace scenario that greets indigenes home and abroad, is, when a new Lion will move out of the forest to occupy the vacant stool in the palace. Hear our reliable source: “The issue is not whether the Lion has moved into the forest or not now, but who steps into his shoes? The weary scene of the hitherto cheerfully serene Royal Palace is quite worrisome. Tongues are wagging with speculations silently making the rounds as to the whereabouts of the heir apparent, whose head the throne or crown should traditionally rest … who the cap fits let him wear it and the Bini, whose culture and tradition, have no photo-copy, already knew their next king before the passing on of one; but wither him?” Our source

AT -TEN TION!!! Army Chief Of Staff Commands Troops THE Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has warned troops involved in the offensive against Boko Haram insurgents in the NorthEast against being complacent in the tasks assigned to them. A statement issued in Abuja by Sani Usman, the acting Director of Army Public Relations, said Mr. Buratai gave the warning during

one of his visits to troops on the frontline. It said the COAS told troops stationed in Gamboru Ngala that the war was not over until all terrorists and their commanders lay their arms and surrender to the military. He said the terrorists still plant Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and attack isolated communities and urged the

troops to ensure that they stop the terrorists. The statement said that while in Gamboru, the COAS performed a symbolic ceremony of hoisting Nigeria’s national flag at the border between Nigeria and Cameroon to the admiration of the locals. “This signifies the restoration of Nigeria’s authority and complete possession of its territory within

•Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II wondered. We gathered that, when the waiting gets too long as required by tradition though, “that is when the ancient kingdom’s King Makers would swing into action and something something would be done.” In Warri, just as obtained in Bini culture and tradition, the Olu of Warri “does not die, he undertakes or embarks on a voyage to meet his ancestors.” Again, as is done in the Benin Kingdom, so it is in Warri Kingdom. An Olu of Warri Palace source, who spoke to National Weekender on condition of anonymity, disclosed: “There are great identical similarities between the culture and traditions of the Bini and the Itsekiri, but that should be shelved for another premise ... it’s

the area. “I commended our troops for the feat of recapturing the strategic and economic town of Gomboru Ngala. “This is in line with the vision and the mission of the Nigerian Army of defending the territorial integrity of our great nation,” the statement quoted Mr. Buratai as saying. It said Mr. Buratai also interacted with troops and decorated Muhammed Ali, an officer that was granted accelerated promotion from Major to Lt. Col. for his courage and exceptional performance in the operation.

an indelible historical relationship, which has culminated into an inseparable wedlock, if you permit me to use that phrase. “ Itsekiri tradition demands, as it does in Benin, that, the first male child of the Oba or Olu, automatically steps into the Royal Shoes and wears the Crown left behind by his father, but as it were, there seems, I repeat, there seems to be a hiccup in the enthronement of a new Olu of Warri. When National Weekender pressed to know the cause of the traditional “hiccup, our source replied: “That’s all I can tell you now. The Itsekiri are poised to keep their tradition intact this time around and are not in any mood for Western invasion. But I can assure you that sooner than later, a new Olu of Warri will emerge.”

The statement said the COAS also gave operational directives to commanders during his stay in Gamboru Ngala. It said Mr. Buratai inspired the troops as it was the first time in recent times that a COAS would visit the front line and sleep in the trenches amidst heavy downpour. The Chief of Army Staff was accompanied on the visit by the Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-General Y.M. Abubakar and other senior officers. The Chief of Army Staff had in August paid a similar visit to troops in Dikwa and other operational areas in the North-East.

Crackdown On Illegal Refineries– A Bullet On Target By STEPHEN AYA MEN of the Nigerian Navy recently began mopping up several illegal refineries, which have the capacity to produce thousands of petroleum products dailyin Rivers State. According to the Navy, these illegal refineries were discovered after both aerial and land surveillance were carried out. Likewise, there are several of such refineries that are scattered all over the Niger delta area, particularly inBayelsaState, where over 134 of have been uncovered and destroyed lately and yet they still exist. There areseveral illegal refineries hidden in the thick mangrove forest, requiring aerial surveillance and a good understanding of

the roads network to locate and some are not hidden at all. The colossal damage done to the environment by activities of these criminals is better imagined, but it cannot be compared to that, which Oil companies such as Shell have done in their Oil exploration activities, which were not environmentally friendly over the years and are well documented. These illegal refineries, some of which have been in operation for more than ten years, are responsible for the large number of Oil theft and illegal bunkering activities that is thriving in the Niger delta. A situation for which past governments are well awarebut failed to do anything concrete about. One would have celebrated these local refineries, had their

activities been legal, given the fact that they would have helped the nation with its constant petroleum products crises. But their activities are criminal in all forms of it, as it is widely believed too, that proceeds from the sale of such illegal petroleum products are used to carry out other criminal activities. It is on record that most of the people of the Niger delta have suffered economic hardship, due largely to the bad activities of the large Oil companies, but, it is still not enough reason for one to be involved in such a dangerous and illegal form of business that have negative consequences on both the individual and the community The Oil sector in Nigeria is still more than capable of carrying the entire economy

of this country, if only it is well managed. But the level of criminal activities that takes place there is something that can only be better imagine. From the administrators in the offices, right down to the operators of these refineries in the creeks, there is massive corruptions and all forms of criminality. It is therefore, a thing of Joy that, PresidentMuhammadu Buharihad started fulfilling his election promise of ridding the oil sector of all forms of criminality. The recent Crack-down on Oil thieves, destruction of Illegal refineries in Rivers is welcome by Nigerians. Across section of Nigerians spoken too, expressed support for such actions and have called on the president to ensure that the current action is not only

maintained, but the whole oil sector is purged of all forms of criminality. A lawyer, Mr. Adebayo Oshodi said, ‘with theseseries of operations, the end to incessant crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism is now at site and I can tell you, that Nigeria will be better soon with this development’. However, there is need for more security men to be sent on this mission, given the nature of the Niger-delta. There are about 33,000 creeks in the Niger Delta and it is difficult to maintain 24-hour security presence in all of these creeks and oil facilities, especially having in mind, the shallowness of some of the creeks, which make them near impossible to patrol. This renewed crack-down must go all the way this time around no matter what.

Chinese Boss Forced Me Into Crime –Suspect A driver at a Chinese Construction Company, Honggye International Nigeria Ltd, based in Ekiti, Daniel Usman, has accused his boss, Mr. Xans, of forcing him into crime. Usman was arrested on JebbaLagos road earlier this month by the Kwara State Police Command’s ‘special ember months’ patrol team. He made the allegation in Ilorin, when he was paraded for stealing a Hyundai jeep belonging to his boss. He was paraded alongside three suspected cultists and their godmother by the state command. The new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Esosa Amadasun, represented by the command’s Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, said the stolen vehicle with

Kola Balogun. He averred that he was aware that the second respondent is an agency of the Federal government charged with the responsibility of regulating and monitoring the Nigerian electricity industry, issuance of licenses to market participants and ensuring compliance with market rules and guidelines. According to him, sometime in May, 2013, the second respondent, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Respondents Commission (NERC) licensed the first and second applicants in the CAPMI Scheme, as Metering Service Providers (MSP) and also approved the participation of the companies as Metering System Vendor and as Metering System Manufacturer respectively. He said that further to the CAPMI guidelines, the applicants applied, made huge deposits and furnished bank guarantees to the first respondents consequent upon which it assessed and appointed the first applicant as its contractor for both supply and installation of various types of meters specifically for Island Region comprising of six business districts - Ijora, Ojo, FESTAC, Ibeju, Island and Apapa under Eko Electricity Distribution Zone. He deposed that the first respondent and the first applicant subsequently executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), following which he claimed the third defendant opened and

It was gathered that the suspect confessed that he removed the vehicle from the company’s yard at AdoEkiti. “I was forced into the crime by my Chinese Site Manager, who is my direct supervisor but has used me overtime to cheat the company. At the end, my master filed a false report at one of the police divisions in Ekiti State,” he said. The PPRO added that the suspect informed the police that his master siphoned the company’s money through three private bank accounts

without compensating him. He alleged that it was due to the behaviour of his boss that he muted the idea of selling the Jeep. While speaking with journalists, the driver said he had no regret over his action, adding that his master cheated him several times. Also paraded were suspected cultists, including, Habib Olamilekan, Adebayo Gbenga, Felix Somadima and a woman, Abdulrasheed Latifa. Abubakar Audu:

Returnee Old War Horse By FRANCIS OGBONNA FORMER Governor G off Kogi K State, Prince Abubakar Audu in rather keenly contested gubernatorial primaries, emerged the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the November 21 elections in the state. Prince Audu, who has served the state as elected Governor in two different Republic (his first tenure was from January 1992 until November 1993 and the second from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003), defeating 28 others, clinched the ticket with 1109 votes ahead of his closest rival, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who scored 703 votes. A Senator in the 7th National Assembly, representing Kogi central senatorial district, Mr. Nurudeen Obatemi, polled 400 votes to come third. Prince Audu’s emergence as gubernatorial candidate, in spite of stiff opposition from relatively younger aspirants and amid cry of the need for a generational shift in the party, has been described by political watchers as the return of an old war horse. More so, following the stepping down of one of the frontrunners, Barrister Tunde Irukera hours before the primaries. Before the former Governor indicated interest, Barrister

Irukera was said to be in the fore-front of the race to represent i the h impending i di ll APC in polls, since it was alleged that, he had the backing of the presidency. Irukera’s exit, it was alleged, freed more votes for Audu in the east and ensured the votes from the west and central were shared amongst the other aspirants from those regions. By virtue of this victory, Prince Audu in the forth-coming polls will be pitched mainly against the incumbent and likely Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) sole candidate, Captain Idris Wada. Captain Wada supposedly after several months of persuasion and adoptions, formally bowed to pressure to contest once again for the state governorship election. Reacting to this development, some analysts have said Prince Audu’s selection was prearranged. They argue that the APC hierarchy (within the state and at the centre), in search of a formidable opponent to challenge Idris for the keys to the Lord Lugard Government House had considered Audu. They reckon that if the party in Kogi could leverage on the reported plummeting in popularity of the incumbent with the Kogi indigenes, the APC may be cruising to victory come November 21. However, it would require the fielding of an equally

or even better alternative to seal the defeat. “Wi h the h dwindling d i dli political li i l “With fortune of Captain Wada, it will be impossible for the PDP to advance any convincing argument that he is the best aspirant from its fold. The simple truth is that whilst Idris Wada attracts disaffection and rejection to the PDP, a new credible candidate from the PDP will appeal more to party faithful and Kogi voters, otherwise Prince Audu will win with little or no effort,” an analyst opine “As things are, it is very unlikely that with Governor Idris Wada as the standard bearer of the PDP, a large section of disgruntled PDP party members will not transfer their loyalty which will make votes evaporate again into the APC. Already, majority of the voters are at the other end of the pole to Idris Wada and it will be very difficult for anyone to mobilize votes for the PDP if really Idris Wada forges ahead as the PDP candidate,” another said. Some other factor that may work for the former governor, according to commentators is the fact that he has a reputation for having left behind landmark development for example; he pioneered the construction of the first ultra modern state liaison office in Abuja. He also started work on an ultra modern stadium

and a five star hotel in Lokoja, 250 units Housing Estate, a Specialist E Hospital H i l and d 25 other h medical di l Eye Institutions Prince Audu also took steps to woo prospective investors to harness the numerous solid mineral potentials that abound in the State. The big prize was the establishment of Obajana Cement Factory. The project, which was on going before he left office, attracted the support of the United State Government. Perhaps the most outstanding is the establishment of a state university, Kogi State University, Anyigba. The foundation stone was laid on 30 November 1999, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo, visited the state. About a year later, the President returned to Anyigba during a state visit to commission the University complex. A highly traveled politician, Prince Audu brought so many honors to the country through his personal relationships with foreign statesmen. It is known that he enjoys a very intimate relationship with the former British Prime Minister, Mr. John Major. In 1993, he and the member of his family were special guests of the British Prime Minister at No 10, Downing Street where he hosted them to a State Banquet. Also in 1993, His Excellency attended the Commonwealth

Heads of Government Meeting in Cyprus. His connection with the i i l community i saved d international Nigeria during the heady days of Shonekan administration from economic embargo. In December 1999, he was on the delegation of President Olusegun Obasanjo during the State visit to Germany. On every account, Prince Audu who maintains a good circle of friends across the country is by every judgment a great patriot, visionary, humanist and nationalist. The outstanding achievements of Prince Abubakar Audu have been acknowledged by several organizations within and outside Nigeria through awards and honours presented to him. Regardless of these intimidating credentials, some commentators have suggested it is not yet ‘Uhuru’ for the former Commissioner for Finance and Economic planning in the former Benue State in 1986, as the incumbent would not go down without a fight. According to one observer “the battle will be too close to call and a tough contest awaits both men. Though Gov. Wada among other things has the Federal might to compete with in this instance, he would at least try to leverage on the power of incumbency to tilt the result of the polls to his favour.”

Rivers Guber Tribunal:

APC Accuses Wike Of Bribe Loan

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Rivers State Governor Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike has commenced negotiations with Zenith Bank in order to obtain N10 billion loan which he will use to bribe judges of the state election petition tribunals sitting in Abuja. But, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has dismissed the allegation, saying Wike has no intention to access any loan from Zenith Bank or any other bank for that matter. . The APC, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday by its state publicity secretary, Chris Finebone, said the decision of the governor to obtain the loan and bribe the judges followed the recent negative outcomes for him and the PDP at various tribunals Finebone said, “Following a spate of recent negative outcomes for the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the various Election Petition Tribunals sitting in Abuja, the Governor has commenced negotiations to borrow a whopping N10 billion from Zenith Bank for the sole purpose of bribing judges of the Tribunals, Appeal Courts amongst others. “To date, the governor has collected a total of about N100 billion comprising Federal allocations, Internally Generated

Revenue (IGR), balance in the Reserve Fund and other sundry sums left in the State’s various accounts with the banks by 29th May. “The aforementioned sum is exclusive of the earlier N30 billion obtained from banks by the governor since he assumed office. In sum total, about N130 billion has passed through the hands of the governor in 3 months with only a few projects of his predecessor he is completing and some cosmetic asphalting and pothole filling of some streets to show for it. “If he borrows additional N10 billion from Zenith Bank as he has already decided to do, Rivers people and our next generation shall have been enslaved further to the tune of N40 billion as loan before the tribunal shows the governor the way out of Government House, Port Harcourt.” Reacting to the allegation, assistant publicity secretary of the PDP in the state, Samuel Nwanosike, said the governor cannot commence negotiation with a bank for a loan without writing to the State House of Assembly. Nwanosike, who said their is no aorta of truth in the allegation, urged members of the public to get in touch with the House of Assembly to know if Wike ever wrote any letter for such request to the lawmakers.

Kogi Guber: APC Chieftain Goes For APGA BARELY two weeks after the All Progressives Congress, APC, and primaries for the Kogi State gubernatorial election which was won by Prince Abubakar Audu, has a chieftain of the party and an activist, Dr Goodman Akwu disclosed

expressed the hope that measures would be taken to correct the anomalies within the party, so as to ensure purposeful leadership.

his intention to run for the November election under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. Akwu expressed disappointment that the progressive concept with which they laboured in legacy parties before their metamorphosis into APC has been rubbished, noting that at a time when the political awareness of people were high, somebody who has corruption charges in court has no morality to salvage the state. “We all know that political awareness of people was

no opposition political party, he said. Abonyi added that members of the Labour Party in Enugu State are politicians who were convinced of the need for a viable alternative to the PDP. “There is a critical need for a virile opposition in the state because we live in a society where there is need to ask questions on what is going on. “We will constitute that critical opposition because of the usual corrupt practice on the part of the leaders. “We shall not fail – we shall reinvigorate the Labour Party in Enugu State and provide a critical opposition and we have men and women with passion for change in the state,”

Abonyi said. The Deputy National Chairman of the Party, Okafor, said the members of the state executive committee should be resilient in order to build the party in the state. He also urged them to “avoid the temptation of hunger,” adding that, in life, “integrity is more important than avarice.” Okafor explained that LP is a political party of the Nigerian workers, which represents and protects the interests of different segments of the society. He equally urged the members of the state executive committee to adhere strictly to the party’s philosophy.

APC Vice Chairman Resigns By ADEBAYO NURUDEEN NATIONAL Weekender can report that Malam Musa Adamu, the Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, has resigned. Adamu, who is the zonal vice chairman of APC for Bauchi South Senatorial District, announced his resignation at a news briefing on Friday in Bauchi. He said the resignation was to protect his image, honour and dignity. Adamu said that the party lacked good leadership in the state, as such it would be unwise for him to remain in its state executive council. According to him, most card carrying members of the party and the generality of sympathizers have also lost confidence in the state leadership of the APC. “I tender my resignation as APC Zonal Vice Chairman Bauchi South Senatorial District in view of the prevailing circumstances and political realities of present day Bauchi State APC,” he said. He accused the party leadership of “unethical behaviors” which were in conflict with the political ideology and philosophy of the party’s apex

leader President Muhammadu Buhari. Adamu however said he would remain a member of the APC, and

Labour Party Vows Stiff Opposition In Enugu

THE Labour Party has vowed to build a strong political opposition in Enugu State. Interim Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the LP, Dr. Gerald Abonyi, made this pledge on Friday, during the inauguration of the party’s State Executive Council by the National Deputy Chairman of the party, Callistus Okafor, in Enugu. Abonyi noted that the LP would provide a constructive and objective opposition, devoid of prejudices. He stressed the need for a viable opposition political party in Enugu State, which is largely dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party. The PDP would no longer have cause to boast that Enugu State has

increasing on daily basis, and we are talking about war against corruption so how can somebody who is answerable to corruption charges be flying the flag?,” Dr Akwu asked. On why he chose the APGA platform, he explained that he has made contacts across the length and breath of Kogi State, adding that consequent upon consultations with prominent Kogi citizens from the three Senatorial zone, they all agreed that APGA’s manifesto is people oriented which he said was what Kogi State desired for now. “I have been under serious pressure from prominent politicians in the State to contest on the platform of APGA and having studied the party’s manifesto, it is capable of driving the state on the part of development,” he noted. He maintained that the change mantra would spread beyond APC to APGA to the consternation of those who think they could hold Kogi State to ransom for their selfish interest. He added that what was lacking in the State in the last sixteen years was good leadership, stressing that there was no proper blue print that would develop the youth, hence, the case has always been that of the political elites taking it all. “I know the youths in the state have been casualties of state policies in the past administrations, but I will consciously work for them”, he averred Dr Akwu urged the people of the state not to toe the part of those dark days, stressing that the state can only move forward when they vote for change.

Trailers, Trucks, Highway Menace THE nation was once again thrown into a session of mourning after news of a fatal accident involving a container-laden trailer on September 2 at Ojuelegba reportedly led to the untimely death of three commuters filtered into the air. The said container had skidded off the flat-bed of the truck and landed on the moving car conveying the victims, killing them instantly. This sad incident, the second of its kind reported within a month, (the first being the August 10 trailertrain collision that left two dead), again brings to light, the menace and havoc wreaked on a daily basis by these “killers on wheels", most of them not widely publicized. Trailers, trucks and tippers, simply classified as 'Articulated Vehicles' without respect forexisting traffick lawsand regard for human lives, drive

recklessly, not just on the highways, but on trunk B and C rated roads. Often times drivers of these vehicles use them without securing containers orloads. More so, they are driven in their rickety states, of course with worn-out tyres, overloaded and most times by unqualified causing untold damages and destruction of lives and property. The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) in its mid-year report, revealed an alarming statistics. Just six months, the number of road traffic crashes stands at 4,421 with about 2,418 having lost their lives across the country. About 14,315 involved sustained various degrees of injuries ranging from simple bruises to permanent disabilities. The disturbing part of this data is that, 80% of these accidents were caused by these articulated vehicles. Added to this dilemma

the perpetual gridlock caused by these vehicles across certain areas of the State, chief among them being the OshodiApapa Expressway, leading to the waste of countless manpower hours on a daily basis. It is against this backdrop that when the Lagos State Government last Sunday restated its determination to restrict trailers and articulated vehicles from plying the metropolis between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., Nigerians and residents of the commercial nerve centre of the nation, Lagos in particular heaved a sigh of relieve. Nevertheless, in their characteristic manner summed up in blatant disregards for authorities, barely 24 hours after the announcement was made, these drivers went about their normal businesses, despite the fact that they were duly informed. Their actions

contravene an existing law namely Section 2 (i) (ii) of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law and vow that erring drivers would be summarily dealt with. While hailing the decision of LASG, National Weekender frowns at the inability of the State’s Ministry of Transportation to enforce the law, which according to reports, was signed into law by former Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), in August 2012. National Weekender also faults related agencies of both the Federal and state government, particularly the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) for failure to ensuring all vehicles, including these heavy duty ones plying roads are roadworthy at all times. If they are fit they would not break down easily and end up being parked indiscriminately on kerbs, leading to the narrowing of roads for other users. The FRSC should

also intensify its effort at addressing the continuous reckless driving habit and negative attitude of truck and trailer drivers on Nigerian roads through its four cardinal programmes, namely, education, enlightenment, subtle force and full enforcement. Unlatched trucks must not be allowed to ply our roads. Drivers’ unions must educate their members on safety issues while erring members must be sanctioned by relevant authorities. Also as a matter of urgency, governments at all levels must collaborate to build parks for articulated vehicles in transit. These parks should be functional, safe and devoid of alcohol vendors, whom most of these drivers patronise before they embark on their dangerous driving mission. This is the time to stop avoidable and worthless loss of lives and properties.

Recalling The Court-Marshaled Soldiers IT is amazing that the 392 soldiers court-marshaled for unprofessional acts during the fight against Boko Haram are now being recalled by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. This move suggests that the said soldiers are not guilty as charged by the court. The bottom line is that former President Goodluck Jonathan is being discredited by this decision. Politics should not be played that way. We have witnessed since the inception of this administration that every move is just to rubbish the immediate past administration. We all know the circumstances that led to the dismissal

of the soldiers but today they are made to look like heroes for going against the ethics of the professional calling which gave the terrorists advantage in the war. It is my belief that some day we will revisit the issue of the soldiers and truly understand if Buhari is right in the latest decision. The mere fact that we are still battling Boko Haram even in the face of all the promises to wipe the terrorists out in the first few months of this administration speaks volume of the kind of politics our politicians engage themselves in. No one sees anything right in the opposition or the past administration. It is good

however that we all realize the fact that the Jonathan administration had already started the fixing of the refineries before Buhari came into office. At least that is a pointer that Jonathan was not a failure as he is painted to be. Like they say what goes around comes around. I will charge Buhari to focus more on development and talk less on corruption war because from the look of things he would be judged more by what is evident that he achieved and not by how many public holders he sent to jail if at all there would be any. -Patrick Salmon, Zaria, Kaduna State

ODEGA’S Magic Post Of Fortune By FRANCIS OGBONNA

T

he name Francis Odega up till now, does not readily strike a chord in the minds of comedy lovers in the country, let alone movie enthusiasts. Unless the face of the thespian is placed alongside, it is somewhat difficult to correlate both features of the Abia-born actor, unlike his contemporaries, such as; Nkem Owoh (Osuafia), John Okafor (Mr. Ibu), and Victor Osuagwu, the incumbent Chairman of the Lagos chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) that need little or no introduction. It is not because the stand-up comedian-cum-actor is new in the game or has not exhibited sufficient skills to be noticed, while he plied his trade. On the contrary, he has been around for over twenty years, gracing the stages and screens with requite skills and finesse that leaves viewer or listener as the case may be ‘wowed’. His hitherto obscure status is also not due to the graduate of Economics from Abia State University, Uturu, not having ample opportunity to feature in many flicks since he had his first opportunity in 1996, as the opposite is the case. Odega, after starting out as an extra in a movie titled ‘Apama’ has featured in over 300 movies, most of them major roles, which according to analyst is enough to announce an entertainer. Nevertheless, his prowess had gone largely unnoticed until recently, when by ‘sheer’ luck, his ‘Gerara Here’ Skit, culled from a three-part movie he had featured in three years ago, was posted on instagram by a friend. The sources of some of the comments including two of America’s finest, namely 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg; our own Don Jazzy, P-Square, Patoranking, M.I, and Sound Sultan and many other Nigerian music stars, that trailed the post, not only gave the actor credence, but gave the actor the required boost his seemingly docile career needed. Now like other popular Comedians, who have an appellation or nickname, they are fondly referred to as, the mere mention of the phrase ‘Gerara Here’ calls to memory the person of Odega. Perhaps the most fascinating twist to this development, is the fact that this incident has helped launched

the humour merchant into another realm-the level where the supposedly A-list comedian operate. Now Odega has joined the ranks of millionaire comedians. According to the comedian, apart from the ‘street credibility’ that he amassed from the post, it was because of the rave reviews that the skit attracted that he was signed on by a Telecoms giants, as an ambassador. His words: “It (‘Gerara Here’ concept) sure has translated into cash for me as telecoms Giant, just like you know, recently made me its ambassador because of the attention I have been receiving. I recently had a photoshoot for the billboards and will shoot the television commercial for the brand very soon. The concept of the billboard adverts revolves around the ‘Gerara Here’ concept.” Following this development, observers have opined that, the sky is the limit for the ‘My Last Wedding’ star, who they said had indeed paid his due. “It is an endorsement well served considering the fact that Odega has been around for so long, but has not been as lucky as most of his contemporaries like Mr. Ibu and Victor Osuagwu. I pray that he manages to sustain it as it has the capacity to launch him into greater things,” one commentator said. “All he needs do is just to continue in the path he is on. He is not only original, he is also humble, which is a prerequisite for staying at the top,” another said. Before trying his hands at Acting, Odega ran a video rental shop at the Mafoluku, Oshodi area in the hub of Lagos. Francis Odega in the late 80s was in a comedy drama series called ‘At your service’ directed by a ‘Bodilon Bodio’ for the NTA. The Comic actor was one of the many comedians, who kick-started the Maiden show of ‘Night of a Thousand Laughs. He is known for his work piece; ‘My Last Wedding (2009), My Last Wedding 2’ (2009) and Under the Sky 2 (2006). He later teamed up with Okey Bakassi on a radio show in the early 90s that didn’t gain much recognition. The Actor has been married for 11 years now to his heartthrob, Chibuzor Odega. He met his wife at one of his shows and today, they are happily married.

In Europe, where I live, at a certain age, parents will start to teach their children about sex education. But it is unfortunate that I came from this part of the world where sentiment is attached to everything. “I’m 33 years old and I can’t pretend to behave like a baby or something. I’m sexy and I like it. I’m still spiritually inclined and I have some gospel songs which are not out yet. One of them is Papangolo. Those nude pictures you see is Maheeda. That is me. Tax-Evading Firms In Govt Cage By OGUNOJEMITE AYODELE

IT seems to be the end of the road for tax invading companies in Nigeria as the federal government announced that it would soon commence tax audit of over 450,000 suspected tax invading firms operating in the country. The audit is in a bid to catch companies that have been defaulting in the payment of their tax thereby shortchanging the country to the tune of billions of naira. According to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS),who made this known recently, only 125,000 companies, representing 27.7 per cent of the 450,000 firm operating in the country, paid any form of tax. The remaining 325,000 have been evading taxation adding that a special audit of all the companies would be carried out, in collaboration with audit firms, and tax consultants. In the statement, the Director, Communications

and Servicom Department, Mr. Emmanuel Obeta, explained that the decision to carry out the exercise was reached at a meeting between the Acting Executive Chairman, FIRS, Mr. Babatunde Fowler; and audit firms, chartered accountants, tax consultants and other professional service providers. The statement further stated that the exercise would be carried out within 30 days and would take into consideration the various year ends and peak points of activities of the various companies. Fowler was said to have pointed out that the collaboration between the professional service providers, states Boards of Internal Revenue and FIRS would mark a turning point for taxation as well as reduce the country’s reliance on oil. The statement read in part, “The meeting focused on the need to harmonise exchange of information across all the revenue authorities as well

as ensuring a synchronised auditing of all the various companies in the country. “At the end of their deliberations, the meeting agreed to share information with members of the National Assembly, particularly on tax laws, in collaboration with other professional bodies as well as relevant stakeholders. “They also resolved that FIRS, state Revenue Boards and the various audit firms will carry out joint audits of the various companies to ensure accuracy of the exercise, enhance transparency and drive compliance. “These audits will be completed within 30 days and will take cognisance of the various year ends and peak points of activities of the various companies.” The statement quoted Fowler as saying that the input from stakeholders was necessary for the expansion of the nation’s tax net, information dissemination, building capacity of tax

administration as well as sharing information that would promote voluntary compliance. He said, “Irrespective of the fact that we have a duty to advice taxpayers, we equally have obligation to government in ensuring increase in revenue collection. “It’s time to stop all forms of unwholesome practices in tax related issues because Nigerians need us at this critical time to reposition the country for more resources. “We don’t have all the answers we need you from both sides to reposition the entire process. All we are asking for is your cooperation to move the nation’s tax system to another level through your support and other stakeholders’’ The tax practitioners, who spoke during the meeting, were said to have called for adherence to professional code of ethics among stakeholders at all time. According to an economic expert and auditor, Mr. Kayode Ojo, the move by

FIRS is laudable as it will help to boost the economy of the country. According to him, there are countries who don’t have natural resources like Nigeria and yet survive mainly on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) realised from tax. Mr. Kayode further explained that with the number of companies registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), tax payable by companies to the federal government and host states, if duly paid, is enough to develop the states. “There are many companies registered with the CAC in Nigeria and all these companies are liable to pax tax to government as long as they are in operation. If these taxes are duly paid, then states would not be complaining of poor IGR. It is because many of these companies are evading tax that states like Lagos which is one of the states with the highest number of companies in the country still complain of poor IGR”. He noted.

Cloudy Weather Clogs Cocoa Drying Process PERSISTENT cloudy weather in Nigeria’s southwest cocoagrowing region has slowed drying of harvested beans resulting in higher-than-normal levels of mold, traders said. “The lack of sunshine is not allowing for the proper drying of the Harvested crop,” Najeem Bakare, managing director of Oyebanjo Ventures Ltd., a cocoa-buying company, said by phone on Thursday from the south-western city of Abeokuta. Beans from the region are showing mold levels of about 20 percent and “exporters are rejecting them,” he said. Mold in beans for export are

acceptable when less than 5 percent, according to the International Cocoa Organization. Other parts of the southwest, which accounts for 70 percent of Nigeria’s production, have reported mold levels ranging from 12 percent in Ile Ife town to 15 percent in Ile Oluji, which has experienced incessant rain in recent days. Nigeria is the world’s largest cocoa producer after Ivory Coast, Ghana and Indonesia with a government-estimated output of 350,000 metric tons in the 20132014 season. The ICCO estimates Nigeria’s output at 240,000 tons for the same period. The affected beans are mainly

early main-crop cocoa, whose season is set to officially start from October, according to Aminu Yakubu, secretary of the Cocoa Farmers’ Association in Edo state. “Unfortunately, most of the beans are robust and in the 290 grams (10.22 ounces) and 300 grams bean-count range,” he said by phone the state capital Benin City. As many as 1,000 tons of beans have been rejected by exporters, forcing some farmers to leave ripened cocoa pods on the trees while awaiting more liberal sunshine, according to Muri Adeniji, an official of Lagos-based cocoaexporter Starlink Global Ltd.

Less than two weeks to the Eid-elKabir celebration, ram dealers in Hadejia, Jigawa are recording low patronage, investigation has shown. Check at Hadejia and Kumsa cattle market on Friday, showed that prices had fallen by about 20 per cent, compared to the same period last year. The low patronage had also pushed prices down, few days to the Sallah festivities. Eid-el-Kabir celebration is marked on the 10th day of Zul-Hajj; the 12th months of the Isalmic calendar during which Muslims faithful make animal sacrifices. Checks indicated that an average

ram was sold for N20, 000, as against its previous price of N25, 000, while sheep attract as low as N 10,000 as against N15, 000 it sold last season. Cattle prices was also affected, as a well-bred bull was sold at N140, 000 as against its old price of N170, 000. Dealers at the market attributed the situation to low purchasing power of buyers. Alhaji Ari Usman, a ram dealer, said that the market condition was not encouraging due to the low sales recorded in the last few days. “We are not making good sales, as very few people are buying the animals at the market,” he said,

adding that sales were low this year. However, another trader, Baba Jibril, expressed the hope that the market condition would improve in the coming days. Malam Buba Audu , a resident, described the drop in prices as a “welcome development”, noting that, the situation would enable most families to slaughter rams and celebrate the season in a happy mood. Kumsa market is one of the major animal trading centre in the state; where goats, cattle, sheep, camel and donkeys from Yobe and Niger Republic are transported to other parts of the country.

THERE are strong indications that the injection of over N338 billion into the economy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the form of a workers’ assistance scheme for the states, popularly known as bailout, would help to boost the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as cash strapped workers across the country make up for lost time by increasing spending. The bailout, which began last week, will according to analysts, result in the reflation of the economy by enhancing money supply, increase household spending and help to reverse the slowdown in economic activities nationwide. Last week the CBN released N34.988 billion to Osun State, N10,000 billion to Zamfara and N4.320 billion to Kwara with firm instruction to the holding commercial banks to pay the monies directly into the accounts of workers. Other states to benefit from the fund in the second batch include Kogi, Benue, Imo, Oyo, Ogun, Gombe, Ondo, Abia, Sokoto, Delta and Ekiti. Also on the list are Bauchi, Nasarawa, Cross Rivers, Borno, Plateau, Niger, Enugu, Ebonyi, Katsina, Edo, Adamawa, Bayelsa and Kebbi states. Reflation is the intentional acceleration of economic activity by a government, usually by using public spending measures to reverse deflationary trends. Analysts believe that apart from the central objective of reducing suffering and improving the welfare of workers and their families in the affected states, the bailout was one of the core strategies of the Buhari administration to achieve an uptick in economic activity after the slowness precipitated by the preand post-election periods. Household spending alone, accounts for over 70 percent of GDP and the downturn in the pace of economic activities occasioned by the failure of state governments to pay salaries has had a negative impact on the country’s GDP. Reduced government spending because of the sharp fall in oil revenues contributed immensely to the economic slowdown across the country. As part of the federal government’s resolve to end the lingering crisis of unpaid workers’ salaries in the country, Buhari had in July 2015 approved a comprehensive relief package designed to fix the challenge and lessen the financial pressures on state governors. The components of the threepronged package included the sharing of $2.1 billion by the three tiers of government sourced from Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) proceeds to the federation account, the restructuring of states’ debtservicing payments by the Debt Management Office (DMO), as well as CBN’s Special Intervention Fund, a low interest loan for the sole purpose of paying backlog of salaries. It is further estimated that by the end of this month, all backlogs of salaries nationwide would have been cleared.

KICK OUT That Smelly Feet … S

melly feet aren’t fun for anyone, but there are simple things you can do to make sure yours stay fresh. Medically known as bromodosis, stinky feet are a common year-round problem. It can be embarrassing and unpleasant for you and people around you. The main cause is sweaty feet combined with wearing the same shoes every day. Why Feet Sweat There are more sweat glands in our feet than anywhere else in the body. Anyone can get sweaty feet, regardless of the temperature or time of year. But teenagers and pregnant women are especially prone because hormonal changes make them sweat more. You’re also more likely to have foot perspiration, if you’re on your feet all day, if you’re under a lot of stress or you have a medical condition called hyperhidrosis, which makes you yp y sweat more than usual. Fungal

infections, such as athlete’s foot, can also lead to bad foot odour. Experts say feet become smelly if sweat soaks into shoes and they don't dry before you wear them again. Bacteria on the skin break down sweat as it comes from the pores. A cheesy odour is released as the sweat decomposes.Your feet sweat into your shoes all day so they get damp and bacteria start to grow. The bacteria continue to breed once you’ve taken your shoes off, especially if you put them in a dark cupboard. Then, when you put your shoes back on the next day, even if you’ve just had a shower, putting your feet into still damp shoes creates the perfect conditions for the bacteria to thrive – warm, dark and moist. Preventing Smelly Feet According to doctors, keeping feet fresh and sweet smelling is all down to good personal hygiene and changing your shoes regularly. The keyy is never to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row, instead, wear different differe shoes on successive days so they have a minimum of 24 hours to dry out. out And make sure teenage boys tee have two tw pairs of trainers so that traine they don’t have to wear the same pair for sam two or more tw consecutive co days. It’s also da important to wash and dry your feet dr every day and eve your to change c socks (ideally sock wool or cotton, not nylon) at least ny once a d day. If you’re particularly susceptible to sweaty feet, fee doctors

suggests that you could also: • dab between your toes with cotton wool dipped in surgical spirit after a shower or bath – surgical spirit helps dry out the skin between the toes really well – in addition to drying them with a towel • use a spray deodorant or antiperspirant on your feet – a normal underarm deodorant or antiperspirant works just as well as a specialist foot product and will cost you less • put medicated insoles, which have a deodorizing effect, in your shoes • try feet-fresh socks – some sports socks have ventilation panels to keep feet dry, and antibacterial socks are impregnated with chemicals to discourage the odour-producing bacteria that feed on sweat • wear leather or canvas shoes, as they let your feet breathe, unlike plastic ones • wear open-toes sandals in summer and go barefoot at home in the evenings Treating Smelly Feet If you already have foot odour, the good news is that there’s a simple, quick solution. A sure-fire way to get rid of smelly feet is to wash your feet with an anti-bacterial soap. There are lots of over-the-counter foot hygiene products at your local chemist. When To See A Doctor Smelly feet are a common problem that usually clears up, but sometimes it can be a sign of a medical condition. See your GP if simple measures to reduce your foot odour don't help, or if you're worried that your level of sweating is abnormally high. Your doctor can offer you a strong prescription antiperspirant or refer you for a treatment callediontophoresis, which delivers a mild electric current through water to your feet to combat excessive sweating.

GOD is the God of all flesh and there is no way we can co-exist without Him. Act 17:28. For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Psalms 65:2. O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come. Every part of human being is rooted in God and there is no nation and generation of human being that can excel without God, Adam tried to excel without God, he was unprecedentedly injured and eternally failed woefully, so, every attempt by human race to apprehend the challenges of life and comprehend the elements of nature to determine the true state of an ideal society without the due acknowledgment of Jesus will always end up in total disappointment and failure. The quantum of the totality of human experience in conflicts and resolving of conflicts, and all the volume of discoveries ever recorded and that would take place in the physical planet is the major platform of illusion for humanity, because nor is ready to take into cognizance the attainment of Jesus Christ as the Omni science Omni potent and Omni present, and precisely, all these breakthroughs never occur without a search into concealed or unknown fields of studies which also demand for the already existing tested raw materials or elements within the physical planet to establish a body of theory that has a global view and acceptance. What are we actually researching? Are they not those things that are already in existence and is there any researcher that can research without hypothesis? If the materials of hypothesis put together by mortal man could validate the essence of existence while been guided by propositions or assumptions that are subject to instinct of which is evaluated in abstract value and will always remain a mystery to human comprehension, the question now is where does instinct derives its source of inspiration to provide solutions through suppositions or suggestions to the dying needs of mankind, this is awesome and amazing! Instinct is an agent of light that reflects through the human psyche with feelings of information, giving you the ability to know or do what you have not been taught. It then means that assumption that leads to a degree of solution is a product of light and Jesus is the Light says John the Baptist in John1:9. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world and according to the gospel of Joh14:6. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. The disconnect from Jesus is the brain behind the problem of humanity, the human phenomena originally is connected to the aurora of eternality through the instinctive value in human beings, Jesus Christ is the eternal light that beams into the darkness of every creation, whenever the light spot of an individual or nation orbit off the contact point of the direction where Jesus beams His eternal light into the region of creation, darkness appear and rule supremely. All the nations stubble in darkness and every pitfall causes deep wound, the nations are inflected by all kinds of diseases. Politically, nations of the world are sick and the virus of corruption, oppression, abominable legislations that defy human face, (like gay marriages, homosexuality, lesbianism etc) and all forms of rituals and wickedness in the corridor of power has damaged the majesty of many nations. Say this prayer accordingly.”Father God have mercy on me , today I turn from my wicked ways, please forgive me all my sins: I confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is the Lord and I believe in my heart that He died and You raise Him from the dead, I thank you, heavenly Father because you are merciful, full of compassion and gracious to save from sins, Father, please, forgive and deliver me from the pit of hell: even now, as I believe in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and I accept Him as my LORD and SAVIOUR, confessing with my mouth the LORDSHIP of JESUS CHRIST. I thank you Father because you have saved me in Jesus name. Amen.

Babcock Parent Faints At Teachers’ Parley By OGUNOJEMITE AYODELE A parent fainted hours into the meeting at the second location of the interactive session between the management of Babcock University and parents on the recent school fees increment onTuesd The parent whose name is yet unknown at the time of report, was said to have collapsed and gasping for breath as the meeting continued. Many believe that due to the number of people present in the hall and the size of the hall which was choked up with staff and parents, then woman could hardly take in enough air and as a result fainted. She was rushed out where first aid was administered to her. Fortunately, she was revived. Earlier, a horde of parents who could not be accommodated inside the venue, within the Babcock Business School building, forced the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Makinde, to relocate it to the church within the campus. At the meeting, some of them protested the hike in tuition, describing it as exploitative and fraudulent. Among other issues, the parents who decried the timing of the increment and also demanded an explanation of the

miscellaneous component of the school fees as well as professional fees charged by the university every session without corresponding certificates to show for it. At the end of the meeting, which lasted for more than five hours, Makinde, who also doubled as the Chairman of the PCF, declared, “I do not have all the answers. But whatever question I cannot answer, I will not parry it. I would rather be punched now and be praised later rather than be praised now and punched later.” Makinde, who also apologised for the timing, said the increment was informed by economic realities. He added that members of staff had had to shun personal privileges to control costs in the past. Earlier, Makinde’s attempt to stop a parent who demanded to see the agenda was drowned by

shouts of, “No,”“No,” from the parents. Makinde had asked the parents to nominate people to fill the Executive Council vacancies of the PCF. The parent had raised a point, demanding to have the agenda “in writing because this is an academic environment.” But Makinde had over-ruled him, saying, “I believe what you are saying is not what I asked, so I will move to the next person. This is not an attempt to cut you short. It is because I realise that there are parents who come from afar.” “Initially, we were justifying and bringing out the books, but the fact that currency is currency does not mean that the naira and dollar have the same value. Three months ago, NEPA brought a bill of N23m for the darkness it supplied for a month. We still paid more than N30m for diesel.

NYSC Marriages:

Khaki Or One-Stand Affairs? By IKECHUKWU SAMUEL FOR anyone who is conversant with the dynamics of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), it is said that when a corps member gets married to another during the service year, the government blesses the union with N500, 000. And over the years, this saying has come to remain as the permanent undercover for the unrestrained promiscuity prevalent among corps members across the country. The narrative begins at the various orientation camps or what could be lightly referred to as ‘Garden of Eden.’ Yearly, young graduates churned out from the various higher institutions of learning across the federation, are mobilised for the compulsory one year service to their father land. While packing their bags and leaving for this one year service, they leave behind family and friends as well as their lovers. They proceed to their various orientation camps with the hope of honouring their commitments to the people in their lives. But on getting to camp, their senses of control betray them. They lose sight of the very weight of their commitment to their initial lovers while they take on make-shift affairs, buried in their thirst for amorous adventure. The various platoon meetings and relaxation spots – Mammy markets – combine to provide ample opportunity for corps members to meet one another and kick off what would later turn out as an affair. Just like my lecturer back in my alma mater (University of Benin) would say:”all relationships in the university end at the main gate.” My lecturer’s position is validated on the premise that most romantic relationships between corps members are nothing but a one-year stand which starts and ends in khaki. But one also wonders if this statement is entirely true when seen from the purview that some relationships in khaki have actually blossomed into marriage. Of significance is the case of the Ekiti State NYSC Coordinator Mr T.C. Ibeh, who met his wife while he was the president of his CDs group. However, in addressing this issue, one vital question comes to mind: why do corps members go into romantic relationship seeing that they have barely a year together? Several reasons abound as to why corps members venture into romantic relationship, of which geographical proximity remains paramount. A majority of corps members are already into romantic relationships before they set out to serve their father land in their various states of deployment. But on getting there – due to the challenge of distance between them and their lovers and the seemingly herculean task of maintaining long distance relationships – most embark on new relationships without doing away with the old. They begin to cheat on their partners with their fellow corps members. Consider the case of Funmi, a corps member serving in Akwa Ibom State. She got engaged before she was mobilised for the national service and had to leave her fiancé to serve her fatherland. All efforts to get re-deploy to Lagos, where her fiancé works proved futile. So she faced the stark reality of living the one year without the warmth and unfettered presence of her fiancé. Due to her fiancé’s tight schedule at work and coupled with the challenge of distance, the two began to drift apart, fuelling an avalanche of temptations. And just before one could scream Jack Robinson, Funmi is already burning with passion for her newly-found lover, her one-year stand. Corps members also date themselves during their one year of service to avoid the feeling of loneliness. In a place where one necessary does not have any relative or friends, most corps members take solace in embarking on romantic relationship amongst them. For the male folk, dating a fellow corps member comes with its attendant blessings, including a steady supply of good meal and domestic assistance, where necessary. However, some corps members, in defence of their rationale for embarking on such relationships, believe that having gone through the four walls of a tertiary institution; they are mentally and socially ready for relationships that can even culminate in marriage. On the other hand, some have argued that romantic relationship between corps member is nothing but a casual union to while away the service year. The two arguments compel one to recourse to the poser: “is the love in khaki a purposeful relationship or merely a one year stand?” Khaki love can be a purposeful relationship leading to marriage or it can simply be one-year standdepending on the reasons both parties had for embarking on one. For corps members who venture into romantic relationships in other to satisfy the yearnings of their stomach or defeat the forces of loneliness caused by the long distance between them and their partners, one can safely assume that such relationships are nothing more than a one year stand which, most times, are prone to creating cycles of emotional trauma for the parties involved. On the other hand, khaki relationships established on the tenets of trust, companionship, compatibility and love can be tagged as one which can possibly progress into blissful union. Love will forever remain a beautiful thing irrespective of whether one finds it on a dying bed or wearing the NYSC crested vest.

In Lagos, I was admitted into St. Peters, Basua, where I was also among the pioneer set in that primary school. For the secondary education, I went to the first Baptist Grammar school in Ijebuland,and a member of pioneer set. Having attended these missionary schools from youth, union activities had been part of me. My late mother taught us how to be self-independent and never to walk in the shadow of anybody. Be yourself, ask questions whether right,wrong, or foolish, or wise. She told us out of nonsense, there is sense and we should not hide our feelings. We are seen to be very inquisitive, that is the way we were brought up to believe in hard workthese are the backgrounds of union activism. Even right from when I was learning Quran under the tutelage of a cleric but could not finish when I left for Lagos. My late mother, BasiratAdesanya gave us a lot of confidence to be selfindependent; ditto my late father, Prince SaliudeenAdeoyeAdesanya. After leaving secondary school, I taught as a teacher, also spent little time in the police before joining the judiciary service because, my mother did not like somebody working in the police force, so I had to find my way out of the police and joined the judiciary for about 35 years now. Along the line, union activities came and in those days, we had a body known as, ‘Court Registrars Association’ then. In the mid-80 -85/86, I became the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association. From then, we started, so that is for Union activities in Judiciary and to the acting- when I was young, despite the fact that we had tight schedules in the judiciary. I am talented;

Would you say all these prepared you for the challenging role of combining your duties in public service and acting as well as movies? Definitely, you can see I’m a workaholic, who can combine many things together. In the church, I can drum, sing, dance, do choreography; I was once a choir master. In our church, you will be ordained before you become a choir master, played the trumpet and if you cannot combine all these, you cannot do many things. What gave me prominence in acting? I would have been brought down in the judiciary and they would have said they had divided interest because you are a full-time employee, but looking at the constitution very well, there are two things the constitution allows you to do, the constitution does not go against propagation of your cultural values and going into agriculture. Those two things, people don’t know and I want to tell you, I’ve never produced a movie of my own. It is only when I do that; they can say I have a divided interest. The greater part of my life, I have spent for Ogun State because,

I have represented Ogun State in so many NIFEST festivals and won laurels for the State. So many cultural activities within and outside the country. I’m a product of Ogun State, a government child. The movie thing is just by the side. I’m not earning money like many artistes in Nigeria, and sometimes, I do it for free. You can ask anybody. I don’t charge, what they give me is stipends. Majorly, I was acting for the Ogun State Council of Arts and Culture for more than 20 years before 2005, when I left for other up-coming artistes to grow. So it is not possible somebody who is making the State proud to be seen as doing PP (Private Practice). They actually tried it, they looked into my files, they did it, there is no way I go into contractual agreement with anybody and asked for #50,000 or #100,000 as fee but anytime from now, I will be charging. I’m a free person. Prince Adesanya, you had a flourishing career as a public servant, then what is the major attraction in acting, since you were not collecting money? My brother, I didn’t have a flourishing career. I had a turbulent career in judiciary. I would have been dismissed long before my retirement. Nigerians do

Nigerians Worship Mediocrity

–Samuel Adesanya (Pastor Ajidara) CONT’D FROM PG 21 Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) was created in 1979, there was a playhouse created by Dr.Akin Sofoluwe, who was the Manager Programmes, while our own boss, Late Lanre Thomas, a.k.aPresso had a Group known as,‘Tomtom Players’. In Tomtom Players, we had so many people, Doctorate Degree holders,(PhD), Lecturers from the then Ogun State Polytechnic(Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Abeokuta, many of them were journalists,

like LekeOgunleye of The Nigerian Tribune, Dr.SegunAsade of the Mass Communication Department of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,Abeokuta, like Paul Kalejaiye, who is an Accounts guru now, all of us were in Abeokuta and the only Group competing with us, was SegunBankole’s Group. We moved to the Ogun State Television (OGTV) when created around 1981 and we were doing soap-opera. I had another brother in acting who died last year, whom I brought to Abeokuta

and was involved in some Yoruba movies in IjebuOde. He even joined ANTP before me. We started the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Art Producers (NANTAP) but the association could not survive. Not too long, I went for an audition at the Ogun State Council for Arts and Culture and since then, I’ve been involved in production. I became a director, a script writer at the Council for Arts and Culture. I was writing for them and playing the lead role for them. All along, it has not been rosy .I’m a workaholic, I played in the

West African Academicals Football for my secondary school, doing so many things, dancing, recitation and the rest, won laurels for my school. It seems you have been type-cast by most movie producers, who used you in the role of a Fake Pastor. I will disagree with you, the spiritual roles that I have played are not more than other roles. I’ve played like “Alani Apamolekun”. I played a role of a policeman in “Osuwon” .I played a role of a judge, a lawyer and pauper. The only thing is that, when people appreciate you most in a role, it sticks because when Abela came out in 2003,they saw it first and foremost, as somebody who belongs to the Aladura Church fold. What we are doing is not real, I’s fake just like fake doctors, journalists and others. We just decided to create what is known as characterization, just to portray the level our people can go to when they want to deceive people and drive the story into the sub-conscious mind of the viewers, so that they will create the image in their mind and follow the story to the end. I played the role of Babalawo. The problem with our producers is this, exactly what we are talking about. If you look at some of the films they used me as a lawyer, was the same film they used you as a herbalist, the voice will not change-it will continue like that. There is a limitation for everybody, no matter how good you are, you must be good in an aspect, even if you are a graduate of Theatre Arts, you have to major in one area. Imagine using a small boy with all make-ups to play an old man role, where there are elders to play the

role naturally, except they are telling me the man is growing (metamorphosis) which they can use other people to do, so there will be professionalism. They (producers) are just playing to the gallery. For instance some of the producers restrict romantic roles to young persons, leaving out old people. They(producers) are lazy. Will you attribute this to lack of creativity by producers? No, some of them are creative, the only problem we have is that some of them will continue to dictate to you that it is only a particular actor or actress that can play a role well, forgetting that everybody has a talent to display, but we will get there. The producers are getting monotonous and people are fed-up .It will get to a stage, you will produce a film and people will not buy. How will this be corrected? We have started correcting this by creating the Theatre Art and Motion Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPPAN), a guild that will screen artistes and ensure that those, who have no business in the movie industry, are not there. Those who are not creative should not be producing. A Producer must have money to produce quality films. A producer cannot tell me, he has N100, 000 from a Co-operative to produce a film. That is madness, it is uncalled for, and it is poverty. You cannot tell me, you want to produce a film with N500, 000 from Co-operative, when that film will not come out in two years’ time.Such a film will need to be censored, edited and show-cased at cinemas. For instance, some producers

No, some of them are creative, the only problem we have is that some of them will continue to dictate to you that it is only a particular actor or actress that can play a role well, forgetting that everybody has a talent to display, but we will get there. The producers are getting monotonous and people are fed-up .It will get to a stage, you will produce a film and people will not buy.

would use 100 artistes and only pay for 10 of them. Artistes, particularly those seeking for prominence, will come to location without being paid.It is poverty. In those days, people would take their films to television stations without collecting money and beg for it to be broadcast. Where are they today? You sell yourself cheaply. People are being over-stretched, the same artiste plays a lead role, produces, directs, does the make-up; people who clap for you, are only messing up. Let’s check how many of such films can win laurels, even If you use charms to sell the film then, you can’t use it now. Ebenezer Obey (A juju music legend) old records are still selling because of the quality of creativity in them. The movie industry is not growing because things are not done properly, technical aspect are not taken care of. Anybody carries a videocamera, but not everybody knows how to handle camera, zoom-in, and zoom-out, take good shots. We do not have up to 10 good cameramen. We are going back to the basic by saying, go to the guild and display your talent. If you are capable to be a producer, you will be screened and issued certificate to practice and only those with the certificate can produce films in Nigeria. It is only those that belong to the Guild of Cinematographers that can handle our cameras on location. It is only those that belong to the Guild of Arts and Designs that can design our sets on location; this is the only way to encourage creativity. Some directors cannot even virtualized things, they cannot even see more than artistes, and then what are they directing. We are not trying to restructure everything. For instance, every big artiste, Jide Kosoko,Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello), Olaiya must come for screening to get a role under TAMPPAN Production. There will be rules and regulation; there will be minimum wage for the artistes. Every member of TAMPPAN will be licensed after payment of N5, 000 annual practice fees, if you are not licensed as TAMPPAN member you cannot take part our owned (TAMPPAN) movie industry. We have several scripts with marketers and they are collaborating with us to reduce piracy to the barest minimum. We want to checkmate the influx of Tom, Dick and Harry into the industry. Every cast must be a member, even those given the roles of Okada riders (Motorcyclists), doctors, lawyers and other roles.

Indian Court Finds 12 Guilty Of 2006 Mumbai Train Bombings TWELVE suspected Islamic militants were convicted Friday for the bombings nine years ago of seven Mumbai commuter trains that killed 188 people and wounded more than 800. The trial in India's notoriously slow justice system lasted more than seven years. It concluded in August last year, but Judge Yatin D. Shinde took one year to write the verdict. He found 12 defendants guilty of murder and criminal conspiracy charges and acquitted one person for lack of evidence. Shinde said he would announce the sentence on Monday after hearing arguments from the prosecutors and defence attorneys. They face the death penalty or life in prison. Seven bombs exploded within a span of 10 minutes in the evening

rush hour on trains in Mumbai, the financial and entertainment capital of India, on July 11, 2006. Prosecutors said the conspiracy was hatched by Pakistan's Directorate of Inter-Services Intelligence, or ISI, and carried out by Lashkar-e-Tayyaba operatives with help from the Students' Islamic Movement of India, a banned militant organization. The 12 convicted in the case were believed to belong to the Indian militant group. The Lashkar-e-Tayyaba is a Pakistan-based Islamic militant group. Pakistan has denied the Indian claims. The neighbouring countries have fought three wars since their independence from Britain in 1947 and have been engaged in a fitful peace process in recent years.

20 Die As Rebel Rockets Hit Market In Yemen

IRAN-backed rebels fired Katyusha rockets at a busy market in Yemen's eastern city of Marib killing at least 20 people on Friday, medics and witnesses said. "Twenty civilians were killed and dozens wounded" in the attack, a medical official said. Witnesses said the provincial capital's market was targeted. The attack came hours after a Saudi-led coalition air strike killed seven rebels in Marib,

Burundi Army Chief Escapes Assassination Attempt The head of Burundi's armed forces on Friday survived an assassination attempt in the capital Bujumbura, police said, adding that at least seven other people were killed in the attack. "There was an attack against the armed forces chief, General Prime Niyongabo, but happily he was unharmed," Burundi's deputy police chief, General Godefroid Bizimana, told reporters. He said two attackers were killed in the clash, and a third arrested. Another senior police source said four bodyguards were also killed, as well as a female police officer. "Reinforcements have arrived. We are pursuing the remainder of the commandos," Bizimana. Another senior police source, who asked not to be named, said the attack appeared to have been "meticulously prepared". "It was sudden and violent. Four bodyguards were killed instantly. He managed to survive only because the driver managed to overtake a

Catalan Separatists Launch Campaign To Secede From Spain ADVOCATES of independence for Spain's north-eastern region of Catalonia on Friday launched their campaign to try to elect a majority of secessionists in regional parliamentary elections this month. The campaign for the Sept. 27 ballot began on the same day as the Catalan National Day holiday that separatists have used for years to rally hundreds of thousands of people in Barcelona to call for the creation of a new Mediterranean nation. Ahead of the protest, the top candidate on a list representing a block of pro-independence parties told reporters that separatists wanted to stage an independence referendum so Catalonia's voters could directly express their sentiment. But as the central government in

Madrid refused, "the only way we can know what the people want is to use the elections on the 27th to know what the people want," said the candidate, Raul Romeva. Pro-independence parties need 68 seats in the 135-member parliament to push forward. Polls show them on track to win a slim majority. Independence backers say a win would give the lawmakers a mandate to start drafting of a Catalan constitution and attempt secession negotiations with the central government. A unilateral declaration of independence could be made by the parliament by 2017. "I am willing to go to the end of this process if we have the majority of seats in parliament,"

Tensions remain high in the central african nation following President Pierre Nkurunziza's successful bid for a third term in power in July. Nkurunziza won a highlycontroversial third term in July in polls the United Nations said were not free or fair. His bid sparked an attempted coup and months of civil unrest led by opposition groups, who condemned his re-election bid as unconstitutional.

Hundreds Protest Beef Ban In Indian-Controlled Kashmir HUNDREDS of Kashmiris chanted anti-government slogans and hurled stones at police protesting a court ruling upholding a colonial-era law banning cow slaughter and the sale of beef in the Indian portion of Kashmir. Police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse the protesters who took to the streets after Friday prayers in mosques at Srinagar, Pulwama, Pattan and elsewhere in the region. A court on Thursday ordered authorities to strictly implement the 1932 law making slaughter of cows punishable with up to 10 years of imprisonment and fine. Indian authorities did not enforce the law for nearly seven decades. Kashmiri people largely prefer goat meat over beef. Government minister Imran Raza Ansari said the government was likely to appeal the court ruling.

TIT BITS... France To Refund $1 Billion To Russia For Warships FRANCE will refund 950 million euros ($1 billion) to Russia for the cancellation of the sale of two Mistralclass warships, but won't have to pay penalties, according to legislation published Friday. In a bill going to France's lower house of Parliament next week, the government detailed for the first time the agreement reached with Russia last month. The "only condition" laid down by Russia is to receive the money "as soon as possible," the legislation said. The amount includes all advances paid by Russia, but no penalties or compensation payments. France will be able to sell the warships to another country. The two ships are currently in the port of the western French city of Saint Nazaire. Their upkeep entails expensive additional costs that the government refused to detail.

Turkey Hits 64 PKK Targets In New Iraq Air Strikes TURKISH warplanes struck 64 Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) targets in overnight raids on northern Iraq, dropping 80 bombs, the Turkish media reported Friday. At least 60 PKK militants were killed in the strikes, carried out by 21 Turkish F-16 and F-4 warplanes, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported, quoting security sources. The toll could not be verified independently. The strikes, which ran from late Thursday to dawn Friday, are the latest in a relentless air campaign aimed at crippling the PKK, which has staged a string of attacks in Turkey in recent weeks.

Egypt Car Bomb Kills Man, Children EGYPTIAN security officials say a suicide car bomb attack in northern Sinai has killed a 61-year-old man and his two children inside their home. The children were seven and three years old. The officials say the explosion took place Friday in the town of Rafah, on the border with the Gaza Strip. The officials say the suicide bomber was targeting an approaching military convoy. One soldier and four civilians were wounded. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to reporters. Egypt is battling an insurgency that has largely targeted troops in northern Sinai. The militants say they are avenging a government crackdown on Islamists.

Militant Video Shows 18 Turkish Workers Kidnapped in Iraq A video from a previously unknown militant group has surfaced on social media showing 18 Turkish workers abducted in Baghdad last week and threatening Ankara with the "most violent means." The 3-minute video released on Friday shows the men seated in front of five militants in black masks with machineguns. Behind them is a blue wall emblazoned with the group's alleged name, "Death Squads" in Arabic. Next to the name are the words "Oh, Hussein" — a reference to a revered Shiite figure who was the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, suggesting the group is Shiite.

Korea: U.S. Ambassador Attacker Jailed 12 Years

Venezuela Opposition Leader Sentenced 14 Years Amid Rising Tensions A Venezuelan judge sentenced opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez to a maximum sentence of nearly 14 years in prison Thursday for inciting violence in last year’s antigovernment protests. The decision could further inflame already heated social and economic tensions in the oil-rich nation, and goes against calls for his release from human rights groups, the United Nations, and the United States. Mr. Lopez has been in a military prison – held in solitary confinement – for the past 18 months. He helped lead the call for antigovernment protests in February 2014, when demonstrators clashed with police and pro-government militias, leading to the deaths of more than 40 people. The protests came amid sky-high inflation, which continues. The economic situation has eroded support for the ruling socialist party ahead of congressional elections on Dec. 6. Lopez has repeatedly denied charges that he was plotting to overthrow the government, and says he only pushed for peaceful demonstrations against President Nicolas Maduro. The government has referred to him as guilty and called him a "terrorist" in the leadup to the verdict. It imposed the maximum sentence that it could – 13 years, 9 months, 7 days, and 12 hours, in addition to time already served, reports The Associated Press. The court’s ruling was decried by human rights organizations, which point to irregularities in the case. More than 100 witnesses testified on behalf of the government, yet only one of the defence’s witnesses was allowed to testify on Lopez’s behalf, reports the BBC. Three student leaders were co-defendants in the case and were handed shorter sentences. “This case is a complete travesty of justice,” said José Miguel Vivanco, the Americas director at Human Rights Watch, in a statement. “In a country that lacks judicial independence, a provisional judge convicts four innocent people after a trial in which the prosecution did not present basic evidence linking them to a crime, and the accused were not allowed to properly defend themselves.” About 200 protesters gathered in Caracas after the verdict late Thursday, with many crying and expressing their disbelief, reports The Associated Press. Others took to social media, with some referring to Lopez as Venezuela's Nelson Mandela, reports Reuters. Some observers believe the sentence was handed down now so that any antigovernment protests would fizzle out before the December elections and the opposition would fray.

A South Korean man who slashed the U.S. ambassador in the face with a fruit knife was jailed for 12 years on Friday after being found guilty of attempted murder. Kim Ki-jong, 55, who attacked Ambassador Mark Lippert in March at a forum discussing Korean reunification, was also found guilty of assault of a foreign envoy. He was acquitted of a third charge of violating the National Security Act. Lippert suffered a deep gash to his face that required 80 stitches

and injuries to his wrist, putting him in hospital for five days. Kim has said the attack was a protest against joint military drills by U.S. and South Korean troops. Prosecutors last week sought a 15-year prison term for Kim, whose seven trips to North Korea had raised questions about a possible Pyongyang connection. Kim has denied any connections to the North. The North's official media said the attack was "deserved punishment" for Lippert but denied any role in it.

North and South Korea are technically still at war after the 1950-1953 Korean War ended in an armistice, not a peace treaty. South Korea and major ally the United States hold regular joint military exercises, which North Korea condemns as preparations for war. The attack prompted an outpouring of public support in South Korea for Lippert, whose outgoing and approachable style has made him popular since he took up his post in November.

Cuba Pardons 3,522 Prisoners Ahead Of Papal Visit Cuba's government has pardoned 3,522 prisoners as a goodwill gesture ahead of a September 19-22 visit by Pope Francis, the official daily Granma announced on Friday. Among those pardoned were prisoners over 60 years of age or younger than 20 and without a criminal record, women and the chronically ill, and foreigners whose countries of origin have vowed to repatriate them, the

newspaper said. There was no immediate indication of whether any of those to be pardoned included people considered political prisoners by dissidents or human rights organisations. The decision is due to be effective within 72 hours. "On the occasion of the visit by His Holiness Pope Francis, the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba (the highest

governmental body) ... agreed to pardon 3,522 prisoners chosen due to the nature of the acts for which they were jailed, their behaviour in prison, the length of their punishment and health concerns," the paper said. President Raul Castro's government granted a pardon to 2,991 prisoners on the occasion of a visit by Francis's predecessor, pope Benedict, in December 2011.

The latest prisoner release is the largest since the 1959 revolution that brought Fidel Castro to power, who was replaced for health reasons by his brother Raul in 2006. In an earlier gesture of goodwill after a historic detente with the United States began late last year, Cuba pardoned 53 inmates in January whom Washington considered "political prisoners".

US Sends 75 Extra Troops To Sinai Peninsula WASHINGTON is sending 75 extra troops to Egypt's Sinai Peninsula to increase the safety of US forces there following a roadside bomb attack last week, the Pentagon said Thursday. The bombing injured six international peacekeepers, including four Americans, who are in the region as part of a force that monitors a 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. Pentagon press secretary Peter Cook said the deployment had been planned before the attack. "This is not a response to what happened with that IED

(Improvised Explosive Device) attack a few days ago," Cook said. "We've been in discussions with key stakeholders regarding plans to increase force protection since early August." Cook said that in addition to the troops, the Pentagon is sending medical equipment including surgical teams. Egyptian security officials said the peacekeepers were hit by a bomb planted on a road leading from their base. The officials said Islamic State militants had placed bombs there aimed at passing Egyptian troops.

Five Family Members Found Dead In US Home A couple and their three children who hadn't been seen for days have died in what police appear to believe was a murder-suicide at their lakeside home in an upscale western Minneapolis suburb. South Lake Minnetonka police went to check on the family at 12:21 p.m. Thursday after getting a call from a co-worker of the father, Interim Chief Mike Siitari told The Associated Press. Siitari wouldn't release any information on how the family members died but said

there appeared to be "no threat or danger to the community." The children had not been in school for the past two days, Siitari said. Authorities did not release the identities of those killed, but the father's business posted a notice online identifying Brian Short and his family as the victims. Siitari said the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office was processing a "complex crime scene." "Obviously it's an extremely tragic event and it's going to take

some time to sort through," he said. The children attended Minnetonka High School, where counseling was made available Friday for students struggling with the deaths. "This is an incredibly difficult time for our school community," Principal Jeffrey Erickson said in a letter to parents. Aerial footage from KSTPTV showed an upscale home in Greenwood, a village of about 700 people on the shore of Lake

Minnetonka. Police sealed off Channel Drive, and a sign at the entrance to the wooded cul-desac read "Children playing." The family's house wasn't visible beyond the police line. Hennepin County property databases list the house as registered to Brian and Karen Short. Brian Short is the founder of AllNurses.com, a resource portal for nurses. An online biography at the site said Short lived outside Minneapolis with his wife and three children.

Worst Over For Booze-Loving Diageo IT’S not been an easy couple of years for Diageo (DGE) and tired investors have been turning their backs on the blue-chip spirits giant. Behind the scenes, however, crucial work has been completed that should reward patient shareholders over the next year. Indeed, the firm responsible for Smirnoff vodka and Bell’s whisky is “no longer on the rocks”, reckons one pun-loving analyst who still thinks the shares are a ‘buy’. Diageo’s share price has tanked since reaching a high of 1,963p in mid-July, falling by nearly 20% to 1,592p at the trough of the recent selloff. The share price has since bounced to 1,723p, but clawing back the remaining shortfall is proving difficult. But this

isn’t just a recent trend, warns Eamonn Ferry at broker Exane BNP Paribas. “Diageo has performed poorly in recent years, in both an operational and share price sense. The macro is not all to blame. Investors are frustrated,” he explains. With chief executive Ivan Menezes two years into his tenure at the drinks firm, investors are expecting results. The revamped management team has been working hard laying the foundations for future earnings growth, with cash conversion and sell-out taking priority, while the route to consumer has been strengthened. This “sensible” work will be reflected in its numbers within the next 12-18 months, reckons Ferry. There was also speculation over the

summer that private equity group 3G understood the potential and wanted to buy Diageo. In the 2015 financial year, total sales hit £10.8 billion, up from under £10.3 billion, but adjusted operating profit fell 2% on a reported basis to less than £3.1 billion, although there was modest organic growth of 1%. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) slipped to 88.8p. Reliance on its Crown Royal Apple whiskey brand and newer craft beers means it’s doubtful Diageo will keep up with growth in the US spirits industry. But with de-stocking nearly over, the company should return to growth in the region as long as the sector remains buoyant. With growth expected in India, the rest of Asia and Latin America, Ferry

£102m Eib Boost For Croydon

LONDON’S Borough of Croydon will be the first ever UK borough to get a loan exclusively for investment in local schools from the European Investment Bank (EIB). Europe’s long-term lending institution will provide Croydon Council with £102 million in funding for the improvement of local schools over the period of 25 years. The Council will invest in building and upgrading dozens of schools and providing thousands of extra pupil places. The EIB funds will be used alongside other sources of financing from the local authority, including internal resources and grant funding. Investment in a total of 38 schools will be supported from the new loan. Primary school children in Croydon will benefit from 6 new schools as well as the upgrade and extension of 25 existing schools. The new EIB loan will also enable construction at 6 secondary schools. Children with special needs living in Croydon will benefit from a new school and upgrading work to improve access at 17 other schools across the borough. Improvements to sports facilities used

by local schoolchildren will also be supported by the new loan, including work to upgrade a swimming pool. Over the next three years schools in Croydon must provide an additional 2,100 secondary places and 5,182 places in primary schools to cope with expected increased demand. EIB’s vice president Jonathan Taylor, who visited Croydon on Thursday last week, commented: “The European Investment Bank is committed to supporting long-term investment that improves lives and opportunities in London and across the UK. This significant new loan will not only allow future generations of Croydon students to benefit from better schools, but also help to ensure that the Borough can provide thousands of additional schools places required in the next few years. We expect to announce further support for UK schools in the coming months.” In recent years the EIB has supported new investment in schools, social housing and transport infrastructure by London boroughs as well as backing water,

electricity, rail and underground and airport investment in the capital. Last year the bank provided a record £6 billion for long-term investment in key infrastructure across the UK including support for new hospitals, better water and sewerage infrastructure, renewable energy and energy transmission and private sector investment. In the last decade, the European Investment Bank has provided nearly £2.5 billion for education investment across the UK. Offering a maximum 175 Nigerian naira per share, Diageo announced its intention to increase its 54.3% stake in Guinness Nigeria to 70% on Thursday, while maintaining its listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Total revenue is predicted to fall 3% to £10.5 billion this year, although cash profit will inch higher to £3.1 billion. With net profit of £2.2 billion, return on capital employed will dip by 20 basis points to 13.4%. With 2016 earnings per share pencilled in at 88.6p, Diageo shares trade on a forward price/earnings (PE) multiple of 19 times.

Nestle Adds Nespresso As US Growth Exceeds Europe

NESPRESSO, Europe’s largest singleserve coffee brand, is adding a factory in Switzerland to produce capsules specially designed for the U.S., where sales growth is exceeding that of its home continent. Nespresso, owned by the world’s biggest food-maker Nestle SA, is showing “high double-digit” growth in the U.S., surpassing high single-digit growth in Europe, Nespresso Chairman Patrice Bula said in an interview in Romont, Switzerland, where the coffeemaker inaugurated its third production center on Thursday. “The U.S. expansion is going very well,” Bula said. “We have the growth we planned to have in Europe. Of course you have much more competition, and of course it’s a more mature market.” Nespresso introduced its 8-ounceserving VertuoLine coffee machine to the $5 billion North American singleserve market last year to appeal to their preference for bigger cups of coffee. The factory in Romont will be the only one producing pods for VertuoLine, Bula said. Nestle is spending 300 million

francs ($308 million) on the Romont factory and has invested 1.1 billion francs in boosting Nespresso production in Switzerland since 2002. VertuoLine has helped boost sales in America as it can produce big mugs of coffee, Nestle Chief Executive Officer Paul Bulcke said in an interview. The chain has more than 400 boutiques worldwide, of which 36 are in the U.S. “North Americans are different consumers,” Bulcke said. “They do drink espresso, but for special moments in high-level restaurants.” Nespresso has faced competition from compatible capsules made by rivals such as Mondelez International Inc. Nestle last year reached an agreement with France’s competition regulator to lift obstacles to makers of knockoff capsules for Nespresso machines. “Lawsuits have been decreasing because we settled with a lot of our competitors and also because we wanted to move on, like them, into competing and innovating,” Bula said. “It’s difficult when you’re in that process. For us, it’s the past.”

Protect Your Trading Account Using ‘Stop Losses’ A stop loss is an order that automatically closes your trade at a specified price. They are used as a fail-safe mechanism to protect your trading capital in the event that the trade does not work out. Stop losses are therefore vital in protecting your trading capital, but there are different types of stop losses and a number of ways to determine where they should go. Knowing where to place a stop loss order is not always clear. For example, you can use technical analysis to find levels of support and resistance, or you can place a stop loss based on nothing more than the amount of time for which your trade has been open. There is also a difference between a fixed stop loss and a moving stop loss. This lesson will explain a number of methods of applying fixed stop losses, as well as some alternative types of stop losses that you can use when trading. Fixed stop losses A fixed stop loss is a stop loss that is placed without being adjusted during the trade. A trader will have to determine the best place for them to go at the time of entry. Using swing highs and swing lows If you enter into a trade, you can use the swing highs and lows to place your stop loss. These are logical places to put stop losses because they are the most recent prices at which the sellers and buyers were willing to sell and buy at respectively. Support and resistance One of the most common methods for determining a stop loss placement is by using support and resistance. Support and resistance indicate where buying and selling is likely to take place. In other words, you can see the highest price and the lowest price at which other traders are willing to buy or sell in the current market conditions. For example, if you refer to the chart above, you will see that price is trading in a range with a clear resistance line, in which case you can look to enter into a short position. You can then place the stop loss just above the resistance level, because you know that this resistance level is the most recent price at which sellers are entering the market. Determining where buying and selling is taking place by using support and resistance effectively allows you to place your stop loss in the safest place. If the price breaks through these levels and triggers your stop loss, then you know that current market conditions have changed – the buyers or sellers have not finished moving the price, and you can simply look for a new trade. Using trend lines or channels Another common method to place a stop loss is by using a trend line or a channel. Place your stop loss just outside of the channel, above or below the trend line. Once a channel has been established, it is unlikely the price will move outside, which means that you can use either the upper or lower boundaries to place your stop loss. If the price does break through the channel, then it is likely that the channel is

breaking down and no longer valid. One frequently used option to set the stop loss is outside of the upper or lower boundary of the channel. The chart below demonstrates that after a channel had been established, one option is to place the stop loss just below the lower boundary: Using moving averages Moving average can also be used as support or resistance, in which case the best place to set a stop loss is on the other side of the moving average, much the same way that horizontal support and resistance or channels are used. In the following chart, you can see an example of a long entry where the stop loss has been placed underneath the moving average: Trailing stops Trailing stops are stop loss orders that follow a trade as it moves in favour of either your long or short position. Some trading platforms have an option to set a trailing stop after the trade has gone a certain number of pips into profit. As the price moves in favour of the trade, a trailing stop loss will initialise and move in the same direction as the trade. This will reduce the risk as the trade goes on and eventually lock in profit. A trailing stop loss is a stop loss that moves in favour of your position, reducing your risk as the trade develops in your favour and then eventually locking in profit. As the trade must first go into profit before the trailing stop loss is initialised, a fixed stop loss must first be used when you enter the market. Trailing stop losses can also be adjusted manually using indicators, such as moving averages, or trend lines and channels. For example, if you have entered into a buy trade as the price found support at the moving average, you can adjust the stop loss under the moving average as the trade develops. The following chart shows how you can adjust your stop loss up in the direction of the trade using a moving average: sl1 Initial stop loss sl2 2nd stop loss placement sl3 3rd stop loss placement sl4 4th stop loss placement How and when you decide to move the stop loss using the moving average is up to the trader. For example you can move the stop loss up in stages, as in the example above, or you can move your stop loss up each time a new candle appears and the moving average develops. Time-based stop losses A non-technical tool that can be used for placing a stop loss is the time-

based method. The concept of this stop loss depends on how much time a trader is willing to hold a trade. A predetermined amount of time is set and after that time has elapsed, the position is closed. A time-based stop loss is a stop loss that initiated after a certain amount of time has lapsed and allows you to seek a better market for your capital. They are used if the market does not seem to be moving in either direction, meaning neither your stop loss nor profit target has been hit. The reason why traders use a timebased stop loss is that if the markets do not seem to be moving in either direction and neither your stop loss nor the profit target has been hit, after a set period of time you can close down that trade in order to seek a better one for your trading capital. If the market price does not move significantly in either way, there would seem to be no advantage in keeping it open. It is important to note that with trailing stops and time-based stop losses, money management rules still apply and should be used in conjunction with a pre-determined stop loss and profit target. How and when you decide to move the stop loss using the moving average is up to the trader. For example you can move the stop loss up in stages, as in the example above, or you can move your stop loss up each time a new candle appears and the moving average develops. Guaranteed stop losses There are some instances where the market price can gap between time periods — that is the opening price is different from the closing price. This can be common when the market closes and then opens the next day or after the weekend. If you left your position open in the market during these closed times, there is a possibility that the price can move due to an event and “jump” over your stop loss. This produces a considerable risk to traders that leave open positions in overnight or over the weekend. Although rare, some brokers will offer a guaranteed stop loss, which can protect you in instances where the market gaps over your stop loss. You may need to pay a premium on the spread to keep the position open over the market close, as well as meet the higher margin levels your broker would introduce. If you would like to learn more indepth about market gaps, then you can go to our following lesson.

EKO Electricity Distribution Company has within the last two years, spent about N20 billion for system upgrade and network reinforcementjustasitisadvocating for a stiffer penalty against vandals of electricity equipment and other public facilities if such nefarious act is to be stopped in the country. Oladele Amoda, managing director and chief executive officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), made this disclosure shortly after an interactive session with customers of the company from Surulere, Ijora and Mushin Akoka, Ijesha, Yaba and Lawanson. He said apart from forty new distribution transformers recently installed to replace faulty ones, fifty others have been procured to serve as relief for overloaded transformers in various parts of the company’s

coverage area. On metering, he said the company’s plan for rollout of smart meters to all customers would soon commence. He said the company would always be concerned with the optimal service delivery to all its customers adding that with the planned issuance of smart meters for all customers, customers’ complaints about the accuracy of their bills would be drastically reduced. On vandalism, Amoda, said the existing laws against vandalism of electricity equipment appeared too soft on those found guilty of the act, and decried a situation where a convicted vandal only bags two or three months of jail term after causing incalculable damage to economic and social wellbeing of so many people who are usually affected by acts of vandalism.

Commissioner Tasks Livestock Officers

THE Benue Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. James Anbua, has urged Divisional Livestock Officers to bring innovations that can help the ministry in its revenue generation drive. Anbua made the call when he met with the officers in Makurdi on Friday. He said the state needed to step up its revenue generation in order to complement the Federal Allocation. The commissioner warned the officers against siphoning the ministry’s funds, adding that he would not stay and watch them short change the ministry. He admonished them to strengthen their record keeping mechanism and urged them to remit monies owed into the ministry’s treasury with immediate effect. The commissioner said that any officer that flouted the directive would be sanctioned. Anbua said that the motive was not in any way to witch-hunt anybody but to strengthen revenue generation.

Fake Devices, Bane Of Poor Communications –NCC NIGERIAN Communications Commission (NCC) on Thursday blamedthe use of counterfeit and sub-standard communications devices as being one of the factors responsible for the persistent poor quality of service provided by telecommunications operators in Nigeria. Acting Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Umaru Danbatta, who stated this in Abuja at the stakeholders’ forum on combating counterfeit and sub-standard ICT devices, lamented that about 250 million counterfeit mobile phones are sold annually in Nigeria. Danbatta explained that the 250 million fake mobile phones sold in Nigeria annually represent about 15 percent to 20 percent of the global phone market.

According to him, “Counterfeiting is a growing economic problem affecting a wide range of products. “In the ICT sector, mobile phones are especially targeted with some 250 million counterfeits sold annually. “This number constitutes about 15 percent to 20 percent of the global mobile phone market.” Speaking on the negative economic impact of the use of counterfeit ICT devices to the economy, Danbatta said, “Apart from the obvious negative impact of this ugly trend on the manufacturers of genuine products, government, authorized dealers, it includes brand devaluation, loss of revenue, copyright and trademark infringement.

DAYS OUT

long holidays a year are a good way of beating the blues, as are regular days out. Some insisted having a garage was important while others said a nearby pub was a key to keeping the family happy. Carol Rhead, manager for pub chain Fayre & Square which carried out the research, said: “In a nation seemingly obsessed with materialism, we were interested to find out just what makes a happy household and were not surprised to find that it’s the little things that make a big

difference. Spending time together as a family, parents sharing chores and eating a Sunday roast together came out high in people’s priorities. With today’s fast-paced lifestyle, it can be hard for families to find time to appreciate one another. The poll of 2,000 British parents revealed that the typical family has just six hours together per week. But on average, mums and dads rated their family’s happiness at an upbeat eight out of 10, with 40% declaring that their

family life is happy and a further 32% saying it is very happy. A troubled 4.5% of those questioned said they were unhappy with family life. The poll also asked people what would make them contented – 43% said more time with their partner, 37% wanted better health and 33% said fewer arguments. It also found that 23% would like to live in the countryside, while 22% said they would feel happiest by the sea.

INVESTIGATES HUNTING HORROR

Reed Sutley shouted “yeah after he fired the fatal shot. The thrilled lad and four pals in camouflage then giggled at the grisly birthday party as they chatted about the killing. Reed boasted: “We saw eight bears – one down and seven more to go. The boys were taken on the trip by Reed’s dad, Greg, who filmed the killing and posted the footage online. The video, which has emerged as part of a Mirror investigation, shows Reed and his school friends perched in a lair high above the ground. Whispering and waiting on the wooden platform among the trees, they watched the bears that were lured to the area with bait provided by Mr Sutley. An adult took the gun from a collection of weapons and passed it to Reed. The boy can hardly contain his glee as he prepared to kill. Reed took aim as two bears gorged on the food. His dad gave the lad encouragement and told him to shoot the animal that was lying on the floor while it ate. A single bullet is fired and the huge creature collapses as Reed celebrates the slaying and the other bear runs away. After filming the birthday party in Alberta, Canada, hunter Mr Sutley posted the harrowing three-minute video – called FREE F REE

CAITLYN Jenner has a tense conversation with her ex Kris Jenner in the latest clip for her docu-series "I Am Cait". The former couple seems to have problem with co-parenting their daughters. Caitlyn is especially upset about being excluded from Kylie Jenner's graduation. "One of the reasons I wanted to talk to you was because I don't want your feelings to be hurt like the other day when I heard that you weren't happy about not being included in Kylie's graduation," Kris explains. "It wasn't me making that decision. It was you making that decision. I was so disappointed in everybody," Caitlyn replies. "For 15 years of my life I carpooled kids every day ... some days I would spend 3 or 4 hours in the car. [It's] a slap in the face when you don't even get invited to their graduation." Kris brings up the Vanity Fair story in response, "That's exactly how I felt with the Vanity Fair article because I spent 25 years of my life and 18 hours a day…" But Caitlyn cuts her off, "Vanity Fair was months ago, we're talking about what happened just a few days ago." "Listen, usually people that get a divorce don't do everything together," Kris defends her decision. "It wasn't malicious, it didn't intend to hurt anybody's feelings, but my feelings still weren't healed." "I Am Cait" returns Sunday, September 13 at 8 P.M. ET on E!

Kapil Sharma Confident About “Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoo” STAND-up comedian Kapil Sharma is anything but nervous ahead of the release of his debut film "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoo" as he is happy to have come a long way in his career. The 34-year-old "Comedy Nights with Kapil" star is making his foray into Bollywood with filmmaker duo AbbasMustan's romantic-comedy. "There is no nervousness about the film. The actor rose to fame after he won a reality comedy competition series in 2007. In 2013, he launched his own TV show "Comedy Nights with Kapil" under his banner K9 Production. … T N E M S S A R EMBAR Day Mercy Aigbe Signs On Man’s Bare Chest •Screen goddess, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry ranks among the finest in the industry. The CEO of Mag Divas, in this chat with our Assistant Editor, FRANCIS OGBONNA, speaks on the challenges of being a star and her latest projects among other things. Excerpts… What has been happening to you lately? Lately I have been doing a lot. I now have my own cosmetic line called, ‘Mag Divas’ Cosmetics and a hair line, ‘Mag Divas’ Hair. I also have a fashion outfit, where I sell not just my stuffs, but cloths from other labels. I also have a movie coming to the cinema soon, which is titled ‘Victims’, it was directed by Lancelot Imaseun. Victims feature the likes of A-listers, Olu Jacobs, Saheed Balogun, Faithia Balogun, Juliet Ibrahim, Funsho Adeolu and more. What is the story about? The story describes the tribulations of a woman from her prime to full blown womanhood. It is not just interesting; there are a lot of values we could pick from it. What inspired the movie? The story is about a young lady called Moyeni and her experience, what she had to go through not by choice, but by fate and providence. She did not have a choice of what`s happening in her life and how to deal with the woman she turned out to be. So what has been the response so far to the products you launched recently? It has been really awesome; I would say that I have been so blessed. Also I have not had any complaints so far about my any of products. The testimonies we have been receiving so far from customers, have been very encouraging. What has been your greatest challenge acting? Getting to where I am today was a huge challenge and at the moment, maintaining it is equally a huge challenge. Also at this stage, people expect so much from you as an actress. You are not allowed to do the regular things you are used to doing. You are constantly under public scrutiny, so you have to be tactful at all times in doing what you do. If you are not, you

get into trouble. The last time we spoke, you disclosed you were presently working on part two of your movies ‘Osas-Omoge Benin’, what is responsible for the delay? Just like I said earlier, it still boils down to this piracy issue that is responsible for the delay. One of the sad consequences of piracy is that it stifles productivity and hampers creativity. It is frustrating to invest so much and find it difficult at the end of the day to recoup your investment, let alone make profit. Unless piracy is dealt with it, it may end up destroying the industry. Like Funke Akindele, who turned ‘Jennifa’ into a series, are you likely going to make Osas Omoge Benin into a television series in the nearest future? I am working towards preparing to go on set for the part two of the movie and then we can take it up from there. You are a beautiful lady and naturally guys would be attracted to you, whether you are married or not. How do you wad off these advances without getting into trouble? I have learnt overtime how to draw the line. I know and understand that whatever my fans do, they do so because they appreciate what I do. What is the weirdest thing a male fan has ever done to you? There was this occasion at the airport, I can’t remember exactly where I was going again, but there was this man, who walked up to me literally begging that I signed my autograph on his bare-chest… Did this happen at a Nigerian airport? Yes, it happened in Nigeria… So what did you do? I was so embarrassed, but at the end, I had to sign it all the same, because the young man wasn’t going to take no for an answer. They are my fans

and they love me, so if they can go to that extent to show they appreciate me, as long as what they are requesting is not against the law or inappropriate, it should be too difficult indulging them. You are not Yoruba, but you seem to do more of Yoruba movies. Is it a deliberate thing? No! I actually started with English films, but along the line, had to do a few Yoruba films. I realized that after my first few Yoruba movies, a lot more scripts started coming in and because I was an up-coming actress then, I couldn’t reject those scripts. Before I knew it, I became identified with that genre of movies. I guess I would say it was by chance, since it wasn’t something I set out to do. How come you do not have any tattoo? I am not a tattoo fan; it is a ‘no’ for me. I think it is because I feel I cannot stand the pain. It is not attractive to me. What will you never be caught wearing? I would never be caught wearing an outfit that is so revealing. I love to show a little bit of skin, but when it is too revealing, and then I cannot wear it. What do you think of ladies who wear very revealing clothes? I think it is what they like and if that is what makes them happy, they should carry on but I don’t belong to that category of people. I believe there is class in showing a little flesh but when it is too much, then it becomes tacky and unappealing.

From Nothing To Something, Nowhere To Somewhere, Nobody To Somebody...

Hitlist ‘N’ Cruizin Soars On CONT’D FROM PG 10

copy a n d sampled the opinion of my colleagues and they applauded it saying it would fly if aired. Of course I wouldn’t want to rule out the fact that it was God, it is He who gives idea. So how long do you intend to carry-on with this. Is it just a publicity stunt that will end with time or something you intend to continue doing? By the grace of God, we actually hope and pray that this will last forever. Hit list ‘n’ Cruzin won’t stop until we are able to cover all the streets in Nigeria. I need you to clear the air on this notion. Not everyone believes that people leave with all of the bags they actually carry onset. Can you prove otherwise? Usually when you do things like this, not everybody would believe. I actually don’t interfere with the process. Usually what my team does is that three days to every show, they intimate me on the winner and my job is to take the person out for shopping. A wise man once said “the taste

of the pudding, is in the eating’. It is only those who have won that can testify. Maybe I should just say this, watch out we would be coming somewhere close to you soon. Talking about selection, how do you pick your winners? There are certain criteria we consider, while picking a winner. The first is the number of text message sent, of course when the more text message you send the likelihood of you being selected is high. Also, even after you win, we also consider the security implication of coming to your area. For example, if you live in areas prone to crimes like insurgency or kidnapping, because of the risk entailed in visiting that area we may opt for the next winner. Don’t get me wrong, it is not a Niger-Delta thing or a North east thing, there are some areas also in Lagos that we can’t go to, because of the risk of our equipment being stolen etc. For example there areas in Lagos where before you do anything, you have to pay area boys or street urchins before you do anything.

Most of the editions I have seen are won by women, is it that only women watch your show? Is it deliberate? Interestingly that is the truth; more women have won on the show than their male counterpart. But all the same, I wouldn’t want to say that it is only women who watch the show. I have come to realize that when you have ladies

mostly loving your ideas, what that translates into, is that you have a great idea idea. If you have an idea and women-ladies and even our mothers don’t love it, my dear, you must stop that programme. I am happy that ladies watch my programmes… There is this notion that you actually put a price ceiling whatever gift your winners pick, is it true or they are free to pick whatever they like? For now it can’t be everything you like, there has to be a designated amount. Our desire however is to one day give out cars or even houses on the show, however for now, the amount ranges from N25 to N30. What matters to us is not the amount we spend, but the fact that we are celebrating our loyal fans. It is not because we have too much that we are giving out… But there must be something in it for you?

When we started, things were really difficult. We actually began Hit List ‘n’ Cruizin from our bedroom. At first, we started by giving out gifts worth N2, 000. My wife is a journalist herself and because I left my job at AIT to start this, at certain times, I would ask her to bring from her salary so that we could record.

Yes, there should be something in it for me, but not necessarily cash-wise It’s the joy we derive cash-wise. from making and seeing others happy. What has been your greatest challenge doing this? When we started, things were really difficult. We actually began Hit List ‘n’ Cruizin from our bedroom. At first, we started by giving out gifts worth N2, 000. My wife is a journalist herself and because I left my job at AIT to start this, at certain times, I would ask her to bring from her salary so that we could record. But we bless God now, we can record all through the year without having to source for funds elsewhere. It was very difficult at first paying for airtime (because no station will give you airtime free for an independent programme), we had to pay staff, and you needed to buy new equipment, nut now all that has changed. From my bedroom, we now have a big rented office space outside of the home. Do we see Hit list ‘n’ Cruiz evolving into an award in future? It actually may, you never can tell. However for now, we are presently working on having our own TV channel, but if the opportunity comes knocking and we have the right quality and amount of personnel, and the necessary, we may consider the award thing. Anyway, we have a new programme that is coming up soon; it is called ‘Ebony pride’. What is it about? It is meant at celebrating anything a black man is doing that is worth celebrating. When I say ‘black man’, it includes women as well.

IJAW Youth Council, IYC, has complained that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has ordered a stoppage of on-going constructions for the take-off of the Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, Delta State, which groundbreaking was performed by former President Goodluck Jonathan in May. IYC in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Eric Omare, also accused the Buhari government of frustrating the resumption of the Nigerian Maritime Administrative and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Science and Technical College, Okoloba, Delta State, describing same as “political victimization taken too far. “Since assumption of office, all steps taken by President Buhari and his kinsmen with respect to NIMASA, are all geared towards frustrating the Maritime University, Okerenkoko, NIMASA Science and Technical College, Okoloba, Delta State and any project or programme perceived to be of benefit to the Niger Delta region. “President Buhari’s administration has ordered all ongoing projects, programmes for the take-off of the Maritime University, Okerenkoko to be stopped, whereas other tertiary institutions in other parts of the country where maritime programmes are being sponsored by NIMASA are allowed to continue. “These institutions are Ibrahim Babangida University, Minna, Niger State, University of Lagos, Federal University of Technology, Gombe, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the approval for the maritime programmes in these institutions were given at the time same with the Maritime University, Okerenkoko.” “We are convinced that this is a continuation of Buhari’s victimization of the Niger Delta region, especially the Ijaw people as fallout of the last presidential election. This is much unexpected of a political leader, which Buhari ought to be. “It will interest Nigerians and the world to know that these institutions and a few others are the only federal presence in the Ijaw areas of the Niger Delta region apart from the oil and gas facilities littered everywhere and acting as a curse and sorrow to our people. “We cannot fathom any reason why the Buhari administration cannot allow institutions that will address some of the educational challenges facing our people in the Niger Delta region, but is only interested in the free flow of the crude oil resources from the region.”

NECO’s All-Time Best In Five Years THE National Examinations Council (NECO), has released results of candidates for the June/July 2015 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) with a 68.56% of the candidates recording credit passes in five subjects, including English and Mathematics, compared to previous years. According to the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, who gave details of the results at the council’s national headquarters in Minna, Niger State, the results showed 83.28% credit pass in English Language and 80.74% credit pass in Mathematics, an improvement over the figures recorded in the exams conducted between 2011 and 2014. Specifically, he said a total of 969,491 candidates sat for the examinations, representing a significant improvement over the 52.29% pass rate recorded in 2014, when 511,931 of the 978,886 candidates recorded five credits and more, including English and Mathematics. Garba who was performing his first assignment as Registrar of the board since assuming office exactly one hundred days ago, said 969, 991 candidates registered for the examinations, with 969,491 sitting for the papers. In an analysis of the performance of candidates by states, Delta had the highest number of candidates with five credits and more, including English and Mathematics with 83.51%, followed by Edo with 83.42%. According to the Registrar, a total of 43, 608 cases of malpractices were recorded with those who had their cases established having their results cancelled, while schools with defaults had their results withheld, pending outcome of the council’s investigation. Prof. Garba said: “We have de-recognized seven schools and centers for their involvement in malpractice cases with at least two-year ban and some forever. This action also affects Ad-hoc staff; we have blacklisted those involved in malpractices”. The registrar said that the council was able to once again release results within record time, as “the 2015 examinations result was released within 60 days after the final paper. This shows a great success achieved by the council. Garba urged candidates who sat for the examination to access their results on the NECO Website: www.mynecoexams.com. Attributing the feat he had so far recorded in the past 100 days to the commitment of staff and members of the NECO board, Garba solicited their continued support for him to take positive decisions that would help project the council’s image to the desired level. Releasing results of its May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results recently, the West African Examination Council (WAEC), noted that of the 1,593,442 candidates, only 616,370, representing 38.68% obtained credit passes in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics. The results of 118,101 candidates, representing 7.41% were withheld for various cases of examination malpractices being investigated.

Fayose Advocates SelfCleansing For Buhari

EKITI state governor, Ayo Fayose says contrary to popular belief, he does not hate President Buhari. He said this while receiving the state labour leaders, led by the Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Raymond Ade-Adesanmi and Trade Union Congress, Ayodeji Ladeji, in his office in Ado Ekiti. He said “I consider the anticorruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari as mere propaganda. If you want to fight corruption, you have to do it by example. President Buhari must start from his party men. He should probe how his campaign was funded

because he told Nigerians that he is a poor man. Whatever I say about Buhari should not be mistaken for hatred, I don’t hate him. But, he has to desist from fighting corruption with political face. I differed seriously to his anti-corruption war because he has been protecting other former heads of state, except President Goodluck Jonathan, who contested against him. What is happening to Halliburton’s scandal and other corruption cases perpetrated before Jonathan’s government? This is what I expected the labour to do. They should ask questions, rather than mere protests.” he said

Fayose accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly displaying signs of corruption. “The commission has been evading the payment of N10 million it ought to pay me over appeal court judgment when I sued EFCC for harassing my wife. Is this not corruption. I stand to be corrected; I am the only governor who calls the labour leaders to Joint Allocation Account Committee and Federation Allocation Account Committee to decide how the state allocation should be spent. This is to tell you that I have nothing to hide and nothing to fear. “he said

APC Audu’s Running Mate Causes Uproar In Kogi NATIONAL Weekender can report that all is not well in the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi State over the choice of Hon. Abiodun Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency of Lagos State, as the running mate to the governorship candidate of the APC for the November 21 governorship election in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Audu. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, though an indigene of Kogi State, has always played his politics in Lagos. He was a two term chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area and a second term member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Lagos. During his time as a council boss in Lagos, Abiodun Faleke was the chairman of Forum 57, a forum of LGA and LCDA bosses in Lagos State. Aside his prominence in the politics of Lagos State, Faleke is believed to be one of the trusted loyalists of the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, his adoption as the running mate to former Governor, Abubakar Audu may have drawn the ire of prominent members of the APC in Kogi State and vocal indigenes of Kogi West Senatorial District, where he hails from. This zoning formula, according to sources, may spell doom for the APC candidate and his running mate if something urgent is not done to correct the

seeming imbalance. A source in Lokoja confided to newsmen that it has never happened in the history of Kogi West for two high ranking political office to come from the same local government, as it is likely to happen if Audu sticks to Faleke as his running mate. The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, said if the situation is not corrected, the APC would have willingly played into the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and ruin its chances of wrestling power from the ruling party in state.

FG Releases Funds For EFCC, ICPC Operations THE Federal Government has discretely released some funds to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to boost their operational capacities in a bid to step up its anti-corruption war. President Muhammadu Buhari who approved the release of the funds to the anti-graft agencies has ordered the re- opening of some corruption cases pending in the courts since 2007. Buhari, upon assumption of office three months ago, had received briefings from the ant graft agencies where the heads of ICPC and EFCC blamed paucity of funds for the slow pace of their operations and inability to secure convictions on high profile cases.

A source at the EFCC told the newspaper that the President had then ordered the anti-graft agencies to set up a special committee to review the various cases that have either been hitherto declared closed or just lying fallow. The anti-graft agencies have beamed the searchlight on many former governors, since the inception of the Buhari administration. “I cannot tell you how much has been released but it is true that our capacity has been boosted. The committee is already working. It is the reason you have seen some actions from us in recent times. But we have not started massive invitation of these highprofile individuals because we want to build up very tight cases against them such that it would be difficult for them to escape,”.

THE All Progressives Congress has hailed Nigerian workers and the Civil Society for standing up firmly against corruption, calling their open demonstration of support for the Federal Government’s battle against corruption a major boost to the anti-graft fight. In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Nigerian workers’ unambiguous stand against corruption is also a clear repudiation of all those who have attempted to politicise the battle, either by insinuating selectivity or saying the government should face governance instead of dwelling on the fight against corruption. ”Thursday’s nationwide demonstrations by Nigerian workers and the Civil Society in support of the anti-corruption battle is the clearest indication yet that corruption is now seen for what it is, a vice to be condemned and punished rather than something to be venerated and celebrated. The growing intolerance for corruption among Nigerians is also a clear example of what a nation can achieve under a committed, sincere, purposeful and focused leadership,” it said APC said the delivery of good governance is seriously hampered by corruption, hence the cankerworm of corruption that has eaten deep into the fabric of the Nigerian society is

the main reason why millions of unemployed youths cannot get jobs, why hospitals lack necessary equipment and medicines, why infrastructural deficit is worsening and why social services are almost nonexistent, just to mention a few. ”A huge chunk of the billions of Naira, which are budgeted annually for all sectors of the economy, end up in private pockets. Little wonder then, that the economy has been in the doldrums over the years, despite the trillions of Naira earned by the country from crude oil sales alone. ”It is therefore baffling that some people, for whatever reasons, have decided to engage in sophistry in their attempt to distract the government from combating graft. Thursday’s nationwide anti-graft rally by Nigerian workers and the Civil Society has shown that Nigerians are not buying such fallacy,” the party said. It recalled the promised made by President Muhammadu Buhari in his inaugural speech on 29 May 2015, that his Administration would tackle head on the serious challenges facing the country, including insecurity and pervasive corruption, and appealed to all Nigerians to continue to give their unalloyed support to the Administration in its determination to surmount the challenges.

Assets Declaration:

Who’s Fooling Who? By CHARLES ENWEREM FOLLOWING the public declaration of assets by President Muhammadu Buhari and VicePresident Yemi Osinbajo, many Nigerians have showed great concern towards the declaration by elected and appointed public officials prior to the emergence of Umar Musa Yar’dua as Nigerian president in 2007. This is probably due to the fact that, the declarations are made in secret or because, many Nigerians share the opinion that with or without assets declarations, our politicians are not just trustworthy. The trailblazing public assets declaration by the late president sparked into life, the interest of many Nigerians on this matter. Another issue that further accelerated public interest on assets declaration, was former President Jonathan’s “I don’t-givea-damn” comment on public assets declaration. It is still unclear whether Jonathan said that deliberately, or it was a solecism. Nigerians read several meanings to his comment and thus, many translated it to mean one of two things; either Jonathan was hiding something from the people as well as, having some ominous motives as he ruled the nation or, he

probably meant assets declaration doesn’t effectively and significantly prevent anything and as such, he doesn’t care to publicly do so. Many Nigerians are of the view th, if willingly and publicly declaring one’s assets upon assuming public office as sensitive as that of the presidency, is to be translated as incorruptibility, then it can easily be said that the LateUmar Yar’dua is arguably the most incorrupt president in Nigeria’s history, whereas former President Jonathan is the most corrupt. However, when issues of such are critically examined, we can come up with many unanswered or even unanswerable questions that will leave many having a massive rethink about our conclusions. The Nigerian constitution actually makes it mandatory for the President and other officials/ officers of the state, especially the elected/appointed officers to declare their assets while taking over and leaving their offices with the Code of Conduct Bureau. But whether such declaration should be made public for the sake of transparency is a different ball game. Some political experts still question whether public declaration of assets was part of President Muhammadu Buhari campaign promises. But he gave an insight into what he is worth before

his election. He was reported as saying that he had to raise a loan from his bank before he could purchase his party’s presidential nomination form which cost almost N27m. By the time, one starts seeking for genuine and convincing answers to the above questions, one may find out that the whole issue about asset declaration in Nigeria is more of a myth rather than a reality. Prior to Umar’s voluntary public declaration, the whole issue was kept as a secret from the public and few or no people ask any questions. One fundamental thing which experts say Nigerians need to look at is, no public official is required by law to make his assets declaration and liability-if anypublic, he is only required to declare his assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau. May be, we can say the Freedom of Information Act can now be used to inquire and have access to information on politicians’ declared assets. It has been argued that the Code of Conduct Bureau is a federal agency, but what if state public officers who declare their assets in the state chapters manipulate this and mischievously use it to deny access to information from the bureau? The declaration of assets is as politicized as the politicians themselves. Upon assuming office, one hears about declaration of

assets everywhere, but upon leaving office, it is all watered down. Hardly will you hear of any public official prosecuted for acquiring additional assets more than his total legitimate earnings while in office. Many Nigerians and indeed political observers have often argued that there is need for public officers to declare their assets upon assuming office. Hon. Philip Shaibu (APC, Edo) a member of the House of Representatives stated that a legal framework was crucial towards achieving the goal, adding that the gesture would facilitate transparency and accountability in governance. He added that some senior public officials are hesitant to declare their assets publicly because the Constitution does not compel them to do after declaring the assets, hence the need to for a constitutional provision to compel the publicity.“It is important that the people know your worth and when you are leaving they also know your worth. I think when the people know your worth they will demand less from you and when they know you are rich they demand more from you”, he said. Reactions however are still pouring out following the public asset declaration of the presidency and his vice, especially now that some Nigerians are calling on the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to follow in

the steps of Mr. President to make public what he is worth but some quarters are of the view that this would only fuel whatever existing feud between the senate president and the All Progressives Congress leader, Ashiwaju Bola Tinubu. It is seen as a way to un-earth what financial mis-appropriation which the former governor of Kwara state had in his 8 years tenure in office. Other Nigerians are also asking why it took the presidency and his vice 100 days after assuming to make public their worth before assuming office, a move which many say has done nothing but avail the presidency and his vice the time needed to doctor some documents that reveal their true worth to the Nigerian masses who are perceived to be less gullible and politically conscious of the terrain of governance. The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the heat of the asset declaration saga, took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi sinbajo over their asset declaration, saying that they were deceiving Nigerians. Noting that President Buhari last December declared that he had only N1 million in his account, the PDP wondered how the money suddenly rose to N30 million by May 29 after an expensive campaign. And this is apart from assets in his wife’s name. The PDP went on to describe the declaration as “a deceptive window-dressing to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians” because ‘’it is a mere list of some belongings of President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo in place of the pledge made to Nigerians by Mr. President as candidate of the APC on March 18, 2015, at exactly 5 pm.’’ Some quarters have also argued if it is constitutional for the senate president to publicly declare his assets, especially given the fact that no Nigerian senate president has ever publicly declared their assets. The governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayosehas also comes under fire to declare his assets as the presidency has done, but his defense is that is he would only do same when all APC governors do likewise. The general notion is that, if the president declares his assets, every other person should do same. Although it has been reported that governors; Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Nasir ElRufai (Kaduna), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and more have not made it known whether or not they would be following the footsteps of the presidency, the Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of playing to the gallery by asking Governor Ayo Fayose to publicly declare his assets especially 10 months after his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi did. The PDP, in its defense, maintained that the APC lacks the moral justification to upbraid Fayose for not making his assets public when many of the governors elected on its (APC) platform had not done so. Experts say that if this whole process is meant to stop public officers from using their offices for self-enrichment, then asset declaration upon leaving office, should be more emphasized than declaration of assets while assuming office. However, the reverse is the case.

Pa Rewane’s Innocent Killer Freed After 15-Yrs In Prison •Narrates Detention Ordeal •Battered, Shot, Heaped Into Waiting Van

A 40-year old man identified as Effiong Elemi - Edu has narrated how he was imprisoned for 15 years for the murder of politician, Alfred Rewane, which was later discovered that he was not innocent. Narrating his ordeal, Effiong, who is from Cross Rivers, said on October 6th 1995 in the Ikeja part of Lagos state, he had gone out to buy suya for himself and his wife, when suddenly he heard gunshots. According to him, he took cover and later decided to run to his house. As he made the move to run home, he was halted by an order from a police officer.” I stopped. There were police officers, lots of them." They asked him where he was going and he told them, but instead of letting him go on his way, the officers pushed him into their vehicle and accused him of being an armed robber. "I didn't understand what they meant because; I was not carrying any weapon on me, just the money I was going to use to buy suya. They took us, myself and one other guy to SARS [Special AntiRobbery Squad] at Ikeja, where they kept me under a tree. Later, they came and took me to the 'theatre'. There, there were two drums filled with sand. I was tied like a goat, two of my hands at my back; they crossed an iron rod at my back, and then hanged me" He said he hung in that position for One hour, 20 minutes. "They tried to force me to admit I was an armed robber - they even shot me in the leg. I have never robbed anyone in my life. I was just a young man struggling to save money to get admission into a higher institution to further my education." Effiong, who had a dream of becoming a mass communicator had his hope dashed because an influential politician from Delta state, Chief Alfred Rewane, had been assassinated that morning by unknown gunmen at his residence in Ikeja GRA, a few hundred metres from Effiong's home. "They held me for days. There was no phone at that time and there was no way for me to get in touch with my family. It was my wife, who learned about it. I think

the people who saw me when I was taken away told her. Then she travelled home to inform my mother. They wanted me to copy a statement they had written to say, that I am an armed robber and that I conspired with the others in the murder of Rewane. I refused. They beat me till my face was covered with blood, which was pouring from my left ear. I didn't want to die, so I recopied the statement in my own handwriting. The statement is what they used in implicating us. As I was re-copying the statement, the only thing on my mind was that, I didn't do anything and that my God will let everyone know the truth. It was later, that one of the policemen came to tell us that he was sorry, that it was an order from above. They charged eight of us with the murder of the man. I don't know the man, never heard of him. Those with whom I was charged for murder, I had never seen any in my life. “He narrated. After being tortured and forced to admit guilt, seven of the men were arraigned before a high court, and sent to Kirikiri prison to await trial. But when the men arrived at the prison, prison officials insisted that the police take them to hospital to have their wounds treated. Instead, they took them to a police station - where four of the men subsequently died, reportedly due to the injuries sustained while being tortured by the police."The torture and suffering were too much," Effiong reflected sadly. Rewane's killing was later linked to the military junta of Nigeria's then dictator, the late General Sani Abacha. But Effiong and two other men - Elvis Irenuma and Lucky Igbinovia, who had both worked for Rewane - continued to languish in prison. Then, after 15 years, more than 200 adjournments and the prosecution's inability to produce any evidence linking the suspects to the crime, the trial judge discharged the case and acquitted the suspects, upholding a 'no case submission' made by the defence counsel. "It appears to me that, all the police did was to visit the venue of the incident and arrest the

workers," the judge declared in her judgment. So that was how 15 years after they were arrested, three of the seven arraigned men - Effiong Elemi-Edu, Lucky Igbinovia and Elvis Irenuma walked out of prison into freedom. "I've been facing a lot of challenges, accommodation-wise, money-wise. I need to get my own place. Right now, I'm squatting with my brother and his wife in a one-room apartment. That's why I'm praying to God to help me get a place of my own. When we were over there [in prison] ... at times these churches [would] ... come over to visit. Immediately [when] you ... come out and say you want to go to church and give a testimony, they will look at you and say 'Where is this guy going?' Once, somebody came out [and]

they accommodated him. [But] ... the guy packed everything away [stole from them]. So they [the Early on in his imprisonment, his wife would visit him. But the visits stopped without warning, and when Effiong was released, he heard that she had re-married. He had no idea where to begin looking for her. Two years later, Effiong also re-married. His new wife, Juliet, lives in Cross River State, from where where Effiong hails. "My daughter is one year and four months now. I'm yet to set my eyes on her. Her name is Rose. They sent her picture to me. But I haven't travelled home to Cross River since 2013 because, financially I'm not okay. I'm so down. If I see money now, I will travel home today, today, today. I can't tell you a lie, life

has not been easy. What will I do? It's only by the special grace of God that one is surviving and living. Things are really so tough in the sense that, I just leave everything to God. These days I watch football. Then listen to gospel songs. If I'm alone, I just go through my Bible. They wasted my time. They wasted the talent that God gave to me. At times it pains me, when I look at the way things are going. I know the level my friends are at now. Is it not my classmate in secondary school that is a commissioner in Cross River? The other one is working in the Central Bank. The other one is a lawyer in Port-Harcourt. But I don't dwell on those things. If I do, one day, I'll just be struck down by stroke. So I have to put all those things behind me and let the Will of God be done.” he said

KAI Official Beaten Up In Lagos By STEPHEN AYA AN official of the Kick against Indiscipline(KAI) a body set up to instill discipline in Lagos state, was beaten up by some hoodlums on Allen Avenue on Thursday September 10th 2015. According to eye witnesses who spoke to National Weekender, some KAI officials had stormed the area in their vehicle and immediately started confiscating wares of some street traders selling in the traffic that had built up. The recharge cards of one of the

traders was confiscated alongside that of other traders, while some other traders were allegedly beaten up and forced into the KAI van. Some of the traders and passersby, who felt the recharge cards seller was unjustly treated, started harassing the KAI officials, who on seeing that they were being out-numbered, took to their heels. However, one of the Kai officials was held on to by hoodlums and beaten up. It took the effort of some market leaders from Balogun market before the KAI official was let go.

Wale Kekere-Ekun, Lands Life Jail In UK A Nigerian fugitive, Abdul Adewale Kekere-Ekun, who was arrested on February 12, 2015 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFFC, for identity theft-related offences, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the United Kingdom for the murder of 18-yearold Marcus Hall in 2001, following a brawl outside Luton’s Atmosphere Nightclub, where the popular music group, So Solid Crew, had performed. Though 39-year-old Kekere-Ekun, who goes by several aliases like Adebayo Dalvin James Ekun, Adeba

Yo Kekere-Ekun, Adeba Yo Muta Lito Kekere-Ekun, James Dalvin, James Adebayo, had initially pleaded guilty to the murder charge before the Luton Crown Court, he later fled to Nigeria. He, was, however, arrested in Nigeria in February by EFCC. During investigation, it was revealed that Kekere-Ekun, who was arrested for fraud, was on the wanted list of the United Kingdom Police. Consequently, an extradition notice signed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, was served on him by the EFCC.He was

finally extradited back to the United Kingdom, where he reportedly admitted to the killing. Before his conviction today, seven of the gang members had been convicted in 2002 and 2003 for their part in Hall's murder, but two convictions were later quashed. Revealing how he had been traced, the Bedfordshire Police said he was identified in CCTV footage of the attack, where he was wearing a distinctive checked coat. Upon discovery of a flyer for the shop found by the Bedfordshire Police during a raid on his home, detectives

went to a designer clothes store in London, where it was discovered that the jacket was one of only nine sold in the United Kingdom and the convict was listed as one of the buyers. After the sentencing, Mr. Hall's mother, Icelyn Wilson, in a statement issued through the Bedfordshire Police, was quoted to have said:‘‘my son’s death still hurts as if it had happened yesterday and I will never get over it. ‘‘You did not just ruin one life, you left a 'ripple effect' which has impacted on everyone involved in my son, Marcus' life."

Missing But Found Plane, Who Dunnit ? By STEPHEN AYA RECENTLY, a Bauchi State government plane was discovered hidden in Morocco by the committee on Public Property Recovery, set up by the state Governor, Mohammed Abubakar. This is not the first time a Nigerian plane will bemissing, but this one is a bit mysterious. In June 2014,a four-seated plane owned by the U.S. Company Global Aviation, took off from Kano in northern Nigeria en route Libreville, Gabon, where it was scheduled to arrive, after a stop-over in Douala, Cameroon. The Plane never

made it to Gabon, because it disappeared out of the skies. Also September of 2014, the Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters declared an Air Force plane, an Alpha Jet (NAF 466) , missing in Adamawa State, northeast Nigeria. The aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force was said to have gone missing after taking off on a routine operational mission, and was expected back by 12:00 noon but the plane did not return “Since then, all efforts to establish contact with the aircraft have not yielded any positive result. Though air transportation is seen as the fastest of the three major forms of transportation, it is not short of its disasters

and Nigeria has had its fair share of them over the years. When such happens, the authorities worldwide are quick to set up investigations panels to find out reasons for such crashes or reasons responsible for the plane’s disappearance. However, the recent discovery ofa missing aircraft owned by Bauchi State government in Morocco is not only unbelievable, but a surprise, given the fact that this plane was supposed to be a part of the State’s property to be handed over to the then in-coming governor by the former governor. There is no reason for the plane to be in Morocco, since either the present governor or any

of the past governors have any reasons to be out of the country. When the present governor, Mohammed Abubakar took the oath of office, he declared that the former governor’s wives had taken some of State government vehicles with them. Within weeks, those vehicles were recovered without any form of protest from the women or their husband. There is a lot of reason to believe that the disappearance ofthis plane before it was found, has something to do with the vehicles that were taken away by the ex-governor’s wives. There is something criminally fishyabout this plane. A similar situation is

currently playing out in Rivers State, where Governor Wikeis trying to recover stolen government property. And just last week, the VC of Adamawa State University was arrested for questioning by the EFCC, over the selling of an SUV car worth over N10 million for a scrap prize of just above N100, 000. Proper investigation into the workings and movement of this plane will reveal a lot to both our security agents and our anti-corruption agents, because the plane may have been used to siphon money out of this country. It may also have been used to move weapons illegally into the country.

Tanzania Debut Wakes Keeper Ikeme Off Dream WOLVES keeper, Carl Ikeme has described playing for Nigeria as a ‘dream come true’ after being widely lauded for his international debut. The 29-year-old has been hailed as the longterm successor for the country’s regular No.1, Vincent Enyeama, after keeping a clean sheet in the Super Eagles’ African Cup of Nations qualifier with Tanzania. Sutton Coldfield-born

NIGERIA international forward OdionIghalo has agreed to a new contract with Watford that will keep him at Vicarage Road until 2020. Watford striker, OdionIghalo has agreed a new five-year contract at Vicarage Road, the Premier League club have confirmed. Nigeria international Ighalo initially arrived at Vicarage Road on loan from La Liga side Granada at the start of last season, a move that was made permanent three months into the campaign. And Ighalo’s deal has now been extended until 2020, with the 26-year-old having opened his Premier League account in Watford’s opening-day draw at Everton. Ighalo has scored 21 goals in 42 appearances for Watford 13 of those coming in just nine games at the start of 2015.

Ikeme, who admitted to initially thinking his call-up last month was a ‘wind-up’, was hailed by former Nigerian striker, Kanu’s one-time teammate, Jay Jay Okocha said of Ikeme’s performance: “He was wonderful. “We finally got the keeper we have been waiting for. “We know Enyeama will not be around forever, so it is good that he was discovered now. Onigbinde Hails, Picks Holes In Oliseh

•Onigbinde

FORMER Super Eagles Coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has applauded Sunday Oliseh’s courage for introducing new players during the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Dar es Salaam last Saturday. Despite applauding the coach, he said that the performance of the team was still suspect. Onigbinde came to the above conclusion after assessing the

team against Tanzania saying that the team had not reached its potentials. “We are getting there. I want to commend the coach for his courage in introducing fresh ideas into the team. “That is what we have been clamouring for. Some players whose forms are not very good should give way to others. “Sincerely, I was impressed with the composition of the team, but they are not

convincing in their plays; that, I know, will come with time but I know Oliseh has a good plan for the team. All he needs is our supports,” he said. When prodded to comment on the fringe use of domestic players in the match against Tanzania, Onigbinde said: “The coach knows who and who fits his plan, so he has the right to choose who starts in his matches.

Emenalo Explains Victor’s Loan Strings NIGERIA forward, Victor Moses, has been sent out on loan from Chelsea - the third of such in the last four seasons but Chelsea’s Technical Director, former Super Eagles defender, Michael Emenalo has explained that it was for Moses to really develop to his potential. “Sometimes we know there are players, whose development is not finished, just like Victor (Moses),” Emenalo told the club’s official television station. “Who [Moses] we want to keep with our squad but who maybe needs to play more football to get to the level we think he can get to,

because he is very, very talented,” he added. Moses was expected to be a part of the Chelsea squad this season after his good performances for the team in pre-season, but with the arrival of Pedro from Barcelona, he signed a new four-year deal before embarking on another loan stint with Londonclub, West Ham. Other Nigerians out on loan from Chelsea include Kenneth Omeruo and Dominic Solanke. The Nigerian, who played a major part in helping the Super Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa, has not played for

37

the national team since the end of the World Cup in Brazil last year. Moses joined Chelsea from Wigan in 2012 for £10 million and played 41 games in that first season - the league, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the UEFA Champions League and in the Europa League, in which he helped the Blues triumph. He scored 10 goals in all competitions but he was farmed out to Liverpool where he did not get it right and then Stoke, for whom he was a standout performer last season. He will be hoping to hit the ground running at West Ham to justify the undeniable talents that he possesses.

FORMER Super Eagles winger, Victor Ikpeba, on Wednesday, urged the Nigeria Football Federation toorganisemoreinternational friendly matches for the Super Eagles, so as to help the team blend in. The former AS Monaco star told journalists in Port Harcourt after the Super Eagles game against their Nigerien counterparts on Tuesday. “I hope the Nigeria Football Federation will line up more friendly matches for these players. This will make them blend, get used to one another, and that was what was lacking in their match against Tanzania. “It will take some time for the new players to blend, but I believe it`s possible,” he said. Ikpeba said the friendly against Niger Republic was good for the players, who did not play in Tanzania and also for the coach to assess their style of play. He said more friendly matches would put the team in good shape to prepare for the “big clash“ against Egypt in six months’ time. “Where the Eagles should get it right is to go away from home and win games away from home. “The friendly matches will be very important for the team to put them in shape for more challenges,” he said.

Injury-Benched Bony Itches For Lost Time Recovery

WILFRIED Bony is itching to get back to playing after a frustrating training ground injury sidelined him for three weeks. After starting the campaign with an assist at West Brom, the Ivorian is keen to return to action and get his season off and running. After recovering throughout the international break and resuming full training, the City striker is hoping to play some part in the Blues’ quest to maintain their 100% start to the new campaign. “I should be available for Saturday” said Bony. “My foot is feeling fine and I’m eager to get my season going. “The injury happened in training during a tackle. It wasn’t anything unusual and I didn’t feel that much pain but when I looked at my foot I saw the blood and knew it was a bad cut. I had seven stitches and then it was a case of just rest and letting it heal.

settle for a place on the bench as Van Gaal keeps faith with Rooney - who has five goals in

22 games against Liverpool Liv up front. Phil Jones could also return from the mild thrombosis which has kept him out so far this season, while Marcos Rojo is available again. Liverpool have a number of notable absentees themselves, including the suspended Coutinho. CaptainJordan Henderson and Adam Lallana will both undergo late fitness tests, although the chances of either starting are thought to be relatively slim. Joe Allen is another pushing to be fit in time for the match, but Daniel Sturridge’s comeback will have to wait for at least another week. Benteke, who has scored in his last two appearances against United, will lead the line despite an injury scare on international duty with Belgium.

SAIDO Berahino could return for WestBromagainstSouthampton - as Tony Pulis urged the striker to show the Baggies respect. The England Under-21 international is in contention to face the Saints at The Hawthorns tomorrow after his strike threat. Berahino tweeted last week suggesting he would not play for the club again after they rejected two deadline-day bids from Tottenham. However, boss Pulis confirmed the 22-year-old, who had a transfer request rejected last month, is set to return after missing the last three games during the transfer saga - but the club’s manager added that he wants the player to change his ways “I have no problems at all, he could play on Saturday,’’ said Pulis. ‘’The respect Saido should have shown the football club and supporters wasn’t there. He has to show them more respect. ‘’My big issue with Saido is he is immature at times in the way he reacts. Something he has done in the two windows since I’ve been here, his reaction has not been sensible. ‘’For him to want go to another club, to have the ambition to do that, I wish there were more players in my dressing room who had the ambition and quality to want to do that but the problem with it is the way he has gone about it and the way it has been managed Pulis, though, admitted he felt sorry for Berahino, who lost his father in the Burundi civil war. He added: ‘’He is a young lad and we have to understand and recognise that he has missed the greatest mentor he could have had in his life at an early age with his dad passing away. He has not had the guidance and the solid background a lot of us have been fortunate to have.’’

Martinez Expects Hard Nuts In Chelsea

•Martinez

EVERTON manager, Roberto Martinez is anticipating a strong response from Chelsea when the defending Barclays Premier League champions travel to Goodison Park. Chelsea have endured a difficult start to the new campaign, taking just four points from as many matches and suffering a 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace before the international break. Martinez’s men sit only a point ahead of Chelsea in the table, although they did emerge with a share of the spoils from a tough trip to Tottenham Hotspur last time out. Everton were unable to take any points off Mourinho’s men in 2014-15 and, despite their early struggles, Martinez is wary of a Chelsea side he

expects to quickly return to form. “They haven’t reached that winning momentum of last season,” Martinez said. “That’s obvious. You can have the same players, way of playing and quality but you need that momentum and that comes with results. “Their four games this season they’ve been small margins, except versus [Manchester] City [in a 3-0 defeat]. “I very much expect a strong Chelsea team with right approach, hitting the heights they hit last season when they won the league comfortably. We need to make sure they don’t develop momentum against us.” Everton are without leftback Leighton Baines and midfielder Tom Cleverley due

THIRTEEN meetings down, one to go. The IAAF Diamond League has travelled to 10 different countries in 2015 and the first 16 Diamond Race champions were crowned last week in Zurich. The remaining 16 will be decided at the second of the two finals in Brussels on Friday (11). Zurich’s Weltklasse and Brussels’ AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme are the only meetings in this year’s series to be held this side of the IAAF World Championships, Beijing 2015. Adding an extra dimension to both competitions, not only are Diamond Race trophies and US $40,000 on the line, but each discipline acts as something of a World Championships rematch. Or, in the case of the women’s 200m, the race that fans never got to see in Beijing. The women’s half-lap sprint will be one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the night as Olympic champion Allyson Felix takes on world champion Dafne Schippers. Felix didn’t contest the 200m in Beijing, choosing instead to focus on the 400m, which she duly won. Schippers, meanwhile, clocked a European record of 21.63 – faster than Felix’s lifetime best – to win the 200m. They have competed against one another four times in the past. Schippers finished ahead of Felix in Glasgow and Zurich last year, but the US sprinter gained revenge in Brussels last year and again in Lausanne earlier this summer, bringing their head-to-head record to 2-2.

FLOYD Mayweather’s father and trainer will attempt to convince his son to fight once more should he impress against ‘glass-jawed’ Andre Berto at the MGM Grand on Saturday. Mayweather Jr insists he will hang up his gloves on Saturday despite the fact that victory will move him level with Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 unbeaten record as he has no interest in beating it. Some have put that down to posturing and speculated that a 50th fight is inevitable next year but Mayweather has this week reiterated his plan to retire once all is said and done on Saturday. However his father and trainer, Floyd Snr, will do his best to change his son’s mind – although he will advise a strict deadline. Mayweather Snr said: ‘It will definitely be up to him whether he makes the decision or not. But if he does not do whatever he decides to do within a six-month period, leave it alone. It’s done It’s too long at his age. If he

looks good on Saturday against Berto I’ll say “let’s do it one more time – let’s have one last one.” That’s what I’m going to tell him. ‘Right now we still have a fight on Saturday so I’m still here right now. We don’t know what’s going to happen on Saturday – we will have to wait and see because he might say “hey – I’m going to do it again, one more time”.’ Mayweather currently boasts 26 knock-out victories out of his 48 wins, however he has stopped just one man in the last eight years – and that was the controversial finish against Victor Ortiz. That came in 2011 when Ortiz attempted to apologise to Mayweather to apologise for head butting him during the fourth round. But the pound-for-pound No.1 instead pushed him away and knocked him out with left hook-right hand combination. But his father reckons Mayweather could make it 27 stoppage victories on Saturday after questioning the durability of

Berto, who himself was beaten by Ortiz in 2011. The 62-year-old trainer added: ‘If Floyd plans on the knock-out then he might get it because this dude has got a glass jaw, I can tell you that. I’m not sure if Floyd will touch his jaw very well but I know he’ll touch him enough to stagger him. ‘If a guy is going to take chances and he’s got no defence. He’s done.’ He was also asked why his son decided against a fight with Amir Khan after speculation that the Bolton welterweight was in line for a shot at The Money Man. Snr said: ‘He isn’t getting the fight because I told his daddy – I said “you’re a chump”. And Amir Khan is nothing close to Floyd and he’s not going to get a penny if I’ve got something to do with that. ‘And I’ve got everything to do with it. He’s mad because he isn’t getting any big pay days – that’s why.’

Red Bull Set To Switch To Ferrari Engines Next Year RED Bull appear set to switch to Ferrari engines next year, after Mercedes turned down the opportunity to supply the former world champions following their fallout with Renault. After two years of being uncompetitive, Red Bull and their billionaire owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, have lost patience with Renault. Their acrimonious relationship is beyond repair. Red Bull had hoped that Mercedes, the current world champions, would fill the breach, but it is understood that the board saw very few benefits in supplying a team which has the

potential to beat them. Maurizio Arrivabene, Ferrari’s team principal, has repeatedly expressed his willingness to supply Red Bull in the spirit of competition. Ferrari supplied both Red Bull and their sister team Toro Rosso before they switched to Renault. “ I don’t see any kind of problem to give our engine to any other team or be scared of the competition before they start,” Arrivabene said. “This is not the right spirit of competition or what Ferrari represents. We fight with everybody.” Bernie Ecclestone, F1’s chief

executive, has been trying to persuade Mercedes to supply Red Bull, but Toto Wolff, their team boss, has appeared reluctant throughout. They feared either being beaten by Red Bull or being blamed for their losses. Since winning four straights drivers’ and constructors’ championships from 2010 to 2013, Red Bull have been a weakened force. Renault were caught well behind by the hybrid regulations which were introduced at the beginning of last year. Red Bull have won just three races since then and none at all in 2015.

Kebede, Kiplagat Head 2015 Chicago Marathon Fields ORGANISERS of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced that 2012 champion Tsegaye Kebede of Ethiopia and half marathon world record-holder Florence Kiplagat of Kenya will return to the IAAF Gold Label Road Race on Sunday 11 October. Kebede, the 2008 Olympic bronze medallist and 2009 world bronze medallist, is one of the most accomplished and consistent marathon runners of the past decade. He has run faster than 2:07 on 10 occasions, winning in twice in London, twice in Fukuoka and once in Paris.

He set his PB of 2:04:38 when winning in Chicago in 2012. As the fifth-fastest man in history over the half marathon, Sammy Kitwara will toe the line in Chicago for the fourth time after steadily rising in the ranks over the past three years. He finished fourth in 2012, third in 2013 and second in 2014. He set a personal best of 2:04:28 last year in Chicago, making him the fastest man in this year’s elite field. Kebede and Kitwara will be joined by Kenyans Dickson Chumba, Wesley Korir, Lucas Rotich and Sammy Ndungu.

12 Year-Old Girl Commits Suicide In Lagos By OGUNOJEMITE AYODELE A 12 year-old girl has reportedly taken her life in the Mushin area of Lagos The young girl identified as, Miss Mulikat Hassan according to eyewitnesses, was found hanging down from the ceiling of their onebedroom apartment a 102, Mushin Road, Ikate, Lagos around 6pm after her mother arrived from work. The reason for her action remains uncertain; however, a neighbour to the deceased opined that it could have been as a result of spiritual manipulation. Speaking with National Weekender on condition of anonymity, the neighbour said: “I have never seen anything like it before. Yes, I have heard of adults committing suicide, but never have I seen or heard of a 12 year old girl taking her own life. I think it is as a result of some sort of spiritual manipulation” she said. A neighbour described the deceased as a very responsible and respectful girl. “Mulikat was a very good and responsible and respectful girl. It still baffles me why she would commit suicide. On the morning of that day before her mother went to work, they passed by my shop and I can remember she was wearing a beautiful hijab, which I told her mother I liked and she smiled” she said. Another neighbour, who claimed

•Mulikat's last home in Mushin, Lagos. to have seen the body of the young girl hanging said; “When her mother came back from work, she met her other children playing outside the compound and asked after Mulikat. They told her that she was in the house. On getting to the room, she met the door locked from inside and began to knock thinking that, she was asleep. After knocking and calling her name for a period of tim, she became apprehensive and called on neighbours for help. When we got there, we knocked but there was no response from inside. So, we broke down the door. The sight was gory. Mulikat had tied a rope to the ceiling fan of the room and hung herself. Her body was dangling. Apparently she had been hanging there for hours since the saliva from her mouth was almost dried up.” He narrated. National Weekender learnt that the deceased had around 4pm asked her younger siblings to leave the room claiming that, she wanted to clean it. One of her siblings reportedly said she literally dragged him out of the room when he refused to leave and locked the door from inside. He said he tried

going back inside after sometime, knocked but late Mulikat refused to open the door. The incident has been reported to the police and according to neighbours, eight suspects have been arrested so far in connection to the incident. When National Weekender tried to get a motive to the incident, some neighbours attributed it to poverty while another confidentially told our reporter, that it could be as a result of frustration. He said that he suspects that the deceased was frustrated following sexual advances made towards her by a neighbour, whose name he refused to mention. He said he suspects that the man might have raped the girl who had always rejected his advances. “There is a man in our compound, who have been making advances at the young girl. She had complained several times and the issue had brought arguments between the deceased’s parents and the man many times. I suspect that the man might have raped her and because of that she committed suicide” he said

Season Of Royal Deaths FROM the great Oba of Benin, Oba Erediuwa to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade Olubuse II down to Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse II the scary list of our royal fathers who have gone to the savannah like the Binis would say when the Oba passes on to the great beyond is growing with each passing day. To note that the aforementioned traditional rulers passed on in just one year is very disturbing even though we know that death is an inevitable debt all mortals owe. While we reluctantly accept that the Oba of Benin and Ooni of Ife were ripe in age before joining their ancestors, most Nigerians are worried that HRH Godwin Edoni, the Olu of Warri died in his mid 60s. Yes we have to be worried because the custodians of our culture, tradition and heritage are departing from us almost at the time, thus leaving us almost helpless especially in this jet age when all forbidden things are happening with reckless exigency. Those who should remind the younger generation that it is a taboo for a man to marry or wed his fellow man or a woman to pick a wife among women are leaving the stage already polluted and creating a vacuum in a society adulterated by western culture, habits and life styles. The big question now is who will bell the cat? We are gradually accepting what originally used to be a taboo to us. We see forbidden things as a way of life and we are gradually abandoning our culture to embrace strange cultures like suicide bombing, kidnapping and establishment of baby factories which emanated from child adoption among others. Even in the presence of the likes of Oba of Benin, Ooni of Ife and Ogiame Atuwatse our children particularly the girls dress almost naked all in the name of fashion, our music videos showcase our girls as very loose and uncultured and our movie industry has moved to the next level by producing blue films with Nigerian girls excelling in the art and act better than their counterparts in the western world who originated the sex film trade, so what should we expect now that the royal fathers are moving to the great beyond one after the other in a fashion that depicts that they are tired of seeing and witnessing these taboos and it is better they turn their backs at the corrupt world. Truth is that the royal deaths is gradually reaching an alarming stage and the living should consult the gods to find out why the royal fathers are moving in droves to join their ancestors. If indeed there is something tantalizing about the great beyond that is attracting them, those who hear and understand the language of the gods should tell the gods that the exit of these traditional rulers is creating a lacuna that could cause more harm to the living and even upset the land of the dead. If the departed traditional rulers should rest in peace then, they should left to live longer and help correct the ills presently witnessed before their call to the other side of life. It is a tradition that when deaths strike ceaselessly on the land the custodians of our culture seek spiritual solutions by consulting the gods to put an end to the problem. Most times sacrifices are made and the results are always positive. Something similar should be done now before we lost count of the number of our royal fathers traveling on a journey of no return. The council of chiefs in various kingdoms across the country should act fast. The gods should be consulted and if need be they should be appeased. We don’t want to lose any royal father again. Finally special prayers should be organized by Muslim and Christian clerics to intercede on behalf of our traditional rulers. In fact there should be an inter-religious service in this regard. If the Queen of England remains the symbol of the tradition of Britain then, we must value our royal fathers and even pray for them to live long and prosper. Part of their prosperity is the cultural lessons and heritage we fall back on. May God grant the departed souls of our royal fathers, Oba of Benin, Ooni of Ife and Ogiame Atuwatse eternal rest and may the wind of death blowing across our kingdoms cease IJN Amen! Adieu my royal fathers, Adieu your Royal Highnesses!

T.B. Joshua Honours Martyrs Of Faith PROPHET T.B. Joshua and The Synagogue, Church of All Nations will today hold a memorial service for the victims of the September 12, 2014 building collapse in the Ikotun, Lagos premises of the church. Though the service will hold in South Africa, there are very strong indications that the man of God,Prophet T.B. Joshua has sent a delegation from Nigeria to take part in activities leading to the memorial. Prophet Joshua has maintained that the deceased, mostly South Africans, were on an appointment with God when they met their death and therefore believes that they did not die in vain. Meanwhile, months after a Lagos coroner had passed its verdict calling for the prosecution of the contractors that handled the building of the

collapsed structure, some experts have warned that the government might have been chasing shadows rather than focus on the real issues that led to the tragedy. They observed that the way the building collapsed questions the security consciousness of the government, especially in an era when terrorism is becoming highly scientific and sophisticated. A combatant captain and blasts specialist in the late General Adekunle-led 3rd Marine Commandoes during the Nigerian Civil War, Michael Oyediran who spoke from his Felele, Ibadan residence said that he was alarmed at the September 12 incident and how government inquest handled the matter: “Considering the evidence of those engineers and the scientist, I became very worried because infrasound implosion was used in my time during the Nigerian

Civil War”. Also speaking on the collapse Rtd Capt. ‘Tele Olagundoye, also of the 3MCO, said in retrospect: “…I watched the collapse of that building on Youtube. The way it collapsed brought back memories of some of our operations during the Nigerian Civil War and made me fear that terrorism has gone deeply scientific. Now seeing the way government is ignoring dangerous signals and chasing after shadows makes me worry that insurgents may have penetrated and tested the ground of Lagos successfully and the authorities don’t know yet”. It would be recalled that the DSS recently arrested some Boko Haram commanders in certain areas of Lagos. It would also be recalled that a Boko Haram member had come to The SCOAN to confess the group’s failed plans to bomb the church.
