Nora Shawki is a National Geographic Explorer and Egyptian archaeologist who has been excavating ancient sites in the Nile Delta for seven years. Currently working on her Ph.D. in a joint program at Cairo University and Durham University, she studies settlement archaeology, a relatively new subfield that focuses on non-elite settlements and the daily lives of the communities that lived in them. Underwater photographers David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes are married partners who work together as a team to produce National Geographic stories far off the beaten path, from equatorial coral reefs to life beneath the polar ice. Between them, Jennifer and David have photographed and explored the ocean depths in such places as New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Indonesia, Tasmania, French Polynesia, Scotland, Greenland, and Antarctica. Editor and author Kennedy Warne co-founded New Zealand Geographic magazine in 1988. He served as editor for the magazine until 2004, when he stepped down to pursue his own writing and photography. He has written 14 stories for National Geographic magazine since 2000, focusing on natural history subjects and specializing in underwater assignments.
