Be Alert and Stay Safe in Work Zones

S Budget Billing Changes

O

Our budget billing plan has changed. The catch-up month in the past has been on the billing statement mailed on October 20 of every year. This was for the September usage and was the ending month for the budget billing year. The new budget billing year will be from January through December. The catch-up month will now be on the December usage bill, which will be mailed on January 20 of every year. To simplify this change, the budget catch-up for the current year will be extended to the end of the year. This will add an additional three months to the budget billing plan for this year only. If you are currently on budget billing, please look your bill over carefully and determine if you need to adjust your budget amount. Having three additional months might affect the catch-up amount. Sometimes utilities must put trucks and personnel in roadways to make repairs or install new equipment to keep power on at your home and business. Workers in these situations might already be facing the hazards of dealing with high voltage, and they increase their risk when establishing a work zone in the roadway. No matter how big the work zone, it requires drivers to pay attention to avoid a crash. The National Work Zone Safety Information Clearing House has a list of ways to stay safe in work zones: n Never use a cell phone or text while driving. n Stay alert. Expect the unexpected. n Slow down. n Don’t tailgate. n Pay attention to the signs. n Obey the flagman. n Be patient and stay calm. n K now the road rules for work zones. Keeping a safe distance between your car and the construction workers and equipment, driving the posted work zone speed limit and using your four-way flashers when stopping or traveling slowly can help reduce accidents in work zones. When you are making travel plans, keep in mind that many states also provide road construction information on their respective department of transportation website that can be consulted beforehand. If you know that you are going to be traveling through a work zone, give yourself a little extra time to get to your destination. (Rick Conner 2053001007)

Fire Protection Keep wintery drafts out of your home by sealing cracks and gaps. Weather stripping around doors and windows works well when you can see daylight between the frame and the wall or floor. Use caulk to seal around the frames where you see gaps.
