Sarah “Mallie” Alford 2012 Scholarship Winner Sarah “Mallie” Alford, from Luverne High School, received the 2012 Electric Cooperative Foundation Scholarship from South Alabama Electric Cooperative. The Foundation was created by the rural electric cooperatives of Alabama in 1997 so that we could give back to the communities we serve by providing scholarships to deserving students located in our service territories. Mallie was selected from applicants from across Alabama to represent our cooperative. “We’re excited to be able to provide educational assistance to such a deserving student,” Max Davis, general manager of SAEC said. “We are helping the future of our community. We wish her the best of luck as she continues her educational pursuits.” She is the daughter of Chuck and Tammy Alford of Luverne. Mallie has been busy while enrolled at Luverne High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society, served as the Distinguished Young Woman of Crenshaw County, was editor of the school yearbook, and was a student government representative in 9th - 11th grade. “Mallie has demonstrated nothing but the highest level of character and integrity,” said LaJuan Tomlin, senior English teacher at LHS. “As a person, I admire Mallie’s commitment, dedication and focus.” Her extra curricular activities included: Key Club, Interact Service Club, Varsity Cheerleading, Diamond Dolls, Symphonic Band, Future Business Leaders of America and many more. She is active in her community as well. Mallie has served as an emcee for many local pageants, worked with the chamber

of commerce, and been an active member in her church - South Luverne Baptist Church. In her spare time, she also works with the Luverne Dance Center, the Luverne Parks and Recreation Center and also baby sits. Mallie has plans to attend Auburn University where she hopes to major in agricultural communications.
