Natalie Rau Interior Design Portfolio

About me My Name is Natalie Rau and this is my Interior Design portfolio. I was born and raised in Germany but moved to the UK after finishing school. In 2019 I enrolled at the KLC School of design in Chelsea for the online Interior Design course to pursue my passion for design in a professional manner. I never saw myself sitting in university and listening to lecture with hundreds of other students. Instead I chose the online course as it gives me the opportunity to work and gain industry relevant experience already while studying. Skills

Find yourself in time

4. Selected University projects 1. Find yourself in time-educational health retreat Bad Schlema, Germany

The retreat will serve as a neutral space where everybody can start with a clean slate. Modernisms´ approach to promote human health and social welfare sets the style. With clarity of assembly and precision, visitors will have the spatial freedom to study and heal. Inspired by traditional healing methods the four elements are are utilised in installations, which influence senses, mood and ambience. The open grid based layout frames the guests vision and forces movement around the space to discover its depths.Special consideration was given to window placement and form to bring as much as possible the surrounding environment into the space. Local influences of a long mining tradition are reinterpreted and bring a homely feel to the clean Modernist design.

Instead of spending time in a retreat to get well again this project focuses on another question: What if you learn instead how to stay well? How can being healthy can become a priority again and how can this be incorporate in everyday life?

2. Residential Design Clapham, London Roya would like her and her housemates’ lifestyle to be reflected within their home without being too ‘themed’. She prefers neutral calm and comforting colour palettes, accented with lively pops of colour. Natural materials and texture are also important, with preference given to matte/honed natural finishes over anything glossy. In small spaces, Roya likes the idea of playful patterns but finds them a bit overwhelming in larger rooms.

The client Roya A., has acquired a property in Clapham, London. Roya is a young professional working in educational administration. Due to its size, Roya plans to share the property with 3 other housemates. All four residents of the property will be similar in age and lifestyles, but shared living always brings up unique challenges.

3. Amara Design Competition- Ongoing project

The property is a characterful cottage approximately 200 years old and is on the outskirts of a small village in Hampshire in a very rural area. The Clients are Amelie and Edward Banks, a professional couple in their forties. They have a 16- year old son and a 14- daughter . They would like to make some changes to the layout and functionality of the ground floor which they discovered during lockdown does not entirely meet their needs with both working from home and children being home schooled. The main room needs to be restructured to include separate discrete work space for mother and daughter, a dining area for up to six people, exercise space and storage for equipment and a relaxing family living area with a big TV.
