ADAMA JALLOH Adama Jalloh is a London-based, awardwinning photographer. Inspired by the flow of everyday life, her images capture genuine moments that speak to themes of identity, race and culture. She’s shot for i-D and Clash, and exhibited at Tate Modern. For Nataal, she takes portraits of Young Fathers, and works with a cast of curators, choreographers and dancers for the story ‘A Study in Devotion’.

ALIX-ROSE COWIE Alix-Rose Cowie is based in Cape Town where she works as a freelance editor, writer and photographer. Previously editor of creative showcase Between 10and5, she is currently editor of food culture magazine Chips! For this issue she meets noirwave king Petite Noir, and profiles the collectives shaping South African fashion, art and music.
CYNDIA HARVEY Cyndia Harvey grew up in Jamaica and is based in London, where she has become a sought-after hair stylist. She has brought her fresh aesthetic to campaigns for DKNY, Kenzo and Calvin Klein, as well as to the pages of Vogue Paris, i-D and Dazed. She shared her personal project, This Hair Of Mine, with Nataal at Labs last year. Now she starts a riot with London’s young provocateurs for one of our cover stories.
JULIA NONI Renowned fashion photographer Julia Noni studied in Düsseldorf and is based in Paris. Her clients include Dior, Courrèges, Harper’s Bazaar, Twin, GQ and US Vogue. She journeys to Dakar with Senegalese model Mame Thiane Camara for one of Nataal’s cover shoots, which displays her nuanced attention to human gesture and a sense of place.
KADARA ENYEASI Kadara Enyeasi is a Lagos-based photographer whose work exhibits an understanding of form, space and perspective, informed by his training as an architect. He’s also a junior curator at the African Artists’ Foundation, and has exhibited with Nataal at Labs. He shoots Nigeria’s SoundCloud generation for this issue. KRISTIN-LEE Kristin-Lee Moolman is a photographer and filmmaker based in Johannesburg. Her work explores the various social and political landscapes of South Africa through utopian portraits. Her clients include Hood By Air, Edun and Burberry and she has exhibited at MoMA, Tate Modern and Somerset House. She comes to London to imagine a new breed of future rebels for Nataal.
MICAIAH CARTER New York-based Micaiah Carter creates compelling images that focus on the beauty of blackness and the African diaspora. His images have appeared in Wonderland, Sleek, Document Journal, i-D and TIME, and he’s worked with Converse and Adidas. He conjures up a magical dream world for Nataal’s story with designer Maki Oh.

NANA EKUA Nana Ekua Brew-Hammond shares her BREW-HAMMOND short story ‘The Way Of Meat’ in this issue. She is the New York-based author of Powder Necklace, and her short fiction has appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books, Sunday Salon and Woman’s Work. She was a 2017 Aspen Ideas Festival Scholar and a 2016 Hedgebrook Writer-in-Residence. She is currently at work on her second novel.

RUDI GEYSER After spending most of his twenties in the UK, completing a BA in photography at University College Falmouth, South African-born photographer Rudi Geyser returned home to gain a sense of identity through his work and create narratives around lesser-known subjects. His work has featured in Dazed and Thiiird. Currently based in Cape Town, he shoots a fashion story across the Western Cape for Nataal.
TYLER MITCHELL Born and raised in Atlanta, Tyler Mitchell graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and his playful photography and film work zooms in on global youth culture. He’s been tipped by Dazed and the New York Times, and published the photobook El Paquete. He’s also worked for Givenchy, Ray Ban, Marc Jacobs and The Fader, and for Nataal he takes effervescent portraits of musician serpentwithfeet.
