cross the nation, May is recognized as Women’s Health Month, and this issue of Natural Awakenings is dedicated to raising the banner of wellness, vitality and empowerment for women of all ages. Whether your health goal is to become mindful of the foods you’re consuming, to exercise on a more consistent basis, to develop a stress management routine or to experience relief from a certain ailment, this month’s issue is loaded with insights on how natural healing, conscious living and intentional self-care make a tremendous difference in your quality of life. And this isn’t true for just the ladies—men can benefit from these wellness practices too! Our feature article for this month is “Choose Natural Care First” which focuses on how gentle alternative modalities should be our first line of defense to strengthen the body, instead of defaulting to invasive Western medicines that often leave our bodies drained and weakened. Along those same lines, our “Healing Ways” article is spotlighting a holistic trend known as personalized medicine. This approach to healing uses genotype testing to discover your unique DNA makeup and create an individualized treatment plan to align with your genetic profile. Next, if you’re a woman over the age of 45, it’s likely that you’ve started experiencing the changes and symptoms associated with menopause. These can be irritating and even painful, but exercise is a powerful method of counteracting the discomfort. This month’s “Fit Body” article explains how physical activity can ease menopause-related issues such as mood swings, hot flashes and weight gain, for instance. Some of the recommended exercises include walking, swimming, hiking, dancing, cycling, resistance training, or gentle forms of yoga and Pilates. Finally, a holistic emphasis on health is not complete without addressing our emotional and spiritual well-being too. Our article on “Pillow Self-Talk” examines three questions we should ask ourselves each night before drifting asleep. These questions can help to ground and center us in gratitude, compassion, encouragement and self-correction in order to sustain personal growth. After all, maintaining wellness isn’t just about our bodies—our minds and spirits need to be nourished as well. I hope this whets your appetite for all the inspiration and enlightenment you’ll find in the May issue of Natural Awakenings. As usual, if our content resonates with you, I’d love to know your thoughts on it. Please send any comments, questions or feedback to Publisher@NASRQ. And here’s to another month of wellness from the inside out!
