STRATEGIC PLAN The ASGC has developed a strategic plan that both reflects NASA strategic interests and supports Alabama’s education, research and economic agenda.
VISION
Our Vision is:
an increased level of appreciation, participation and leadership by the people of Alabama in our national space exploration and aerospace engineering enterprises
MISSION & GOALS
Our Mission is:
to inspire, enable and educate a diverse group of Alabama students to take up careers in space science, aerospace technology and allied fields
to play our part in assuring U.S. leadership in space exploration and aerospace technology in the future
to inspire the next generation of space explorers
to bring increased realization of the value of space science and technology to the people of Alabama
to ensure that our message and our programs reach all constituencies in the population of Alabama, especially those traditionally underrepresented in the science and engineering professions
ABOUT ASGC The Alabama Space Grant Consortium was formed in 1989 when NASA implemented the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program. It is a voluntary association of all seven Research Universities in the state along with other community colleges, educational outreach, industrial and government partners.

ALABAMA SPA CE GRANT PROGRAM S Scholarships & Fellowships Support for undergraduate scholarships (Jr./Sr. level) and graduate research fellowships (Master’s/Ph.D. level) and Teacher Educators in STEM fields
Research Infrastructure Support for students to work on mentored research projects at our established Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Programs Support for students and mentors encompassing a wide range of experiences through internships at NASA centers and collaborating industry
Higher Education Development of special courses in Space Hardware Building and Project Management Support for Students Building Space Hardware Programs (SSP’s) which are interdisciplinary, hands-on, student-led, expert-mentored and follow a space mission profile (design, build, fly, analyze)
Precollege Activities Collaboration with universities to support pre- and in-service teacher workshops Learning opportunities for Middle School Student and Educators such as BalloonSat programs
Informal Education Active engagement with students, teachers, and parents in educational space related activities Leadership in systemic change efforts in STEM Education (All programs are open only to U.S. citizens. All applicants must be enrolled in an Alabama university or college.)
