How to increase the life of your flight jacket Come winter, you find jackets everywhere. These jackets offer great protection for chilly winters and are made of many different materials including leather, synthetic and mixed materials. As they offer great protection against extreme weather, leather jackets are preferred by both men and women. Among the leather jackets available on the market is the flight jacket, invented during World War II for pilots manning open cockpit fighter planes, but still popular today with the younger generation. Flight jackets made with leather on the outside and a woolen lining inside are the best protection you can get against the harsh chilly winds that blow during the winter season. There are other winter jackets available that are made of synthetic materials that are lightweight, and these maybe preferred by the current generation, but flight jackets such as the b3 flight jacket still make people’s head turn when they pass by. Big double collars, pocket flaps, heavy brass zips, belted waist, stitched cuffs and big buttons are the highlights of the bomber jackets. Leather bomber jackets require proper care to last for several years; leather being a breathable material means it has the capability to last a long time, and it can also soak moisture up. A leather jacket requires a certain amount of water or moisture in its body to remain supple and nice. Leather that is dried out is likely to crack rather quickly and would be beyond repair sometimes. The brittle nature of dried out leather makes it easier to crack, but by regular maintenance of the leather, this situation can be altogether avoided. A cleaner and conditioner meant for leather cleaning will be required to remove salt and snow, and this will also help the leather to retain some moisture. Leather exposed to wet weather for a long time, such as snow or rain, would cause damage to the leather, and a wax leather conditioner would therefore give the required protection by forming a protective layer. This would potentially repulse snow and water, and this will make the owner more comfortable because water simply cannot make it to the inside and cause dampness. It should be noted that the applying of wax, cleaner and conditioner should be done by hand as using anything such as a brush would cause damage to the surface of the jacket. It is however advised that either nitrile or latex made gloves be worn on hands before the conditioner or wax is applied on your B3 flight jacket, as this would prevent itching and irritation on the fingers.
