Hello friends!

The arrival of April may mean great weather and endless fun, but it also

means it’s time for spring cleaning. As you get into the nitty gritty, don’t forget to focus on your business too. Rid yourself of any practices that aren’t working and revitalize your plans to ensure great success for the future!

Step one is simple – finalize a spring marketing plan. If you haven’t gotten

around to it yet, have no fear! The new Spring Postcard Marketing Pack is online in the NAPCP store and is a great tool to use with Mother’s Day sessions, spring mini-sessions and other photography events you have planned for the coming months.

Looking even further ahead, we invite you to save the date for the next

Gathering on May 11. Being plugged in to your local NAPCP group and participating in photography fellowship will provide both inspiration and encouragement – two things any successful businessperson needs. Topic details will be announced soon, but be prepared for an interactive session!

If you want to learn a thing or two about how to really excel at being plugged

in, this month’s featured photographer knows a thing or two! Specializing in newborn portraits, we are delighted to introduce Keri Meyers of Anthem, Ariz. A teacher by trade, Meyers uses her nurturing foundation to make each client and session feel special and rewarding. In addition to being her own boss and an active member of NAPCP, she’s a mom to two young boys (and dog Silver!), running enthusiast and lover of the outdoors!

Enjoy this month’s issue, friends!

Cheers!

The NAPCP Team

Tell us your story. How you started your photography, brand, and how your business has changed since you began. My journey with photography started in high school. I took a class and fell in love with it. I didn’t do much with it other than just snap pics for myself. I love being outdoors and taking in beautiful landscapes, so that was my first photography passion. It was always a hobby as my full time job was teaching a classroom of 5th graders. After the birth of my first son in 2007, like many, I fell in love with photographing him. Then 14 short months later my second son came along and I decided to take time off from teaching to stay home with my boys. This time not only allowed my to be with my boys, but it also gave me the opportunity to really explore my new passion for photographing babies and children.

It wasn’t long before I was taking on part time sessions. I officially started my photography business in 2008 and never went back to teaching grade school. When I started my business I dabbled in weddings and seniors, but very quickly realized that my niche was newborns, maternity and children. After a couple of years in business I started getting inquiries for mentoring. I started mentoring photographers from all over the world in 2010 and continue to do so in my Phoenix studio as well as through my Online Newborn Mentoring. I’ve met many wonderful photographers through mentoring, many of whom have turned into great friends. In 2012 I cofounded NewbornPhotography.com, a community for newborn photographers, with friend and business partner, Jennifer Blakeley. Jennifer

came to mentor with me and we became fast friends. It is so rewarding for us both to help other photographers grow through this wonderful and positive community. You have celebrity clients. Tell us about how doing business might be different with these families. Jennifer and I work together (www. keriandjen.com) to photograph celebrities. It is much easier and less stressful to work as a team to photograph these high profile clients. We offer newborn, maternity and children’s portraiture for our celebrity clientele. We typically fly to them and photograph them in their homes and/or onlocation near their current working environment. Our celebrity clients are a joy to work with and we treat them just as we would our non-celebrity clients. While they may be celebrities, they are no different than other new parents trying to figure out life with a new baby. Many of our clients allow us to share their images, while others prefer to keep them private, which we complete respect and understand in their line of work. Some of our past clients include AJ Cook (Criminal Minds), Megan Fox (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Donald Trump Jr., Ian Zeiring (Sharknado), Simon Helberg (Big Bang Theory) and Vince Vaughn. Part of your business is in product: actions, tutorials, templates. Will you tell us a little bit about how you expanded your business in this way? I started my online shop shortly after I began mentoring. It started with actions and then grew into templates, overlays, and more. I love using my actions because it really speeds up my workflow. I have worked with some great designers over the years to create some really fun templates for photographers. It’s just one more creative outlet for me.

What are some of your personal and professional goals this year? Professionally, I want to continue to grow my clientele and develop more meaningful relationships with my clients. I moved from Seattle to Phoenix nearly two years ago and left behind a wonderful clientele. Moving to

Phoenix meant building a whole new clientele, but it has been a great move for both my business and our family. Personally, I want to be the best mom, wife and friend I can be. I want to create memories with my husband and family. With our busy lives and social media, we often lose that real and authentic connection with others. My goal is nurture the friendships that I have and take time to show others how much I appreciate them. To see more of Keri's work, please visit her site here!

Thank you so much Keri! 18 | NAPCP Newsletter A pril 2016

Three Tips F O R M A I N TA I N I NG A W O R K- L I F E B A L A NC E | BY K E R I M E Y E R S

1- Family First. Don’t be afraid to say no to bookings, speaking engagements, meetings, etc. if it is going to keep you from important family time or events. My husband and I try to schedule time away for our family as often as we can. Our kids are only going to be young for so long and we want to create as many memories together as we can. 2- Schedule time for YOU. Make time to do things for yourself that doesn’t involve work. Get your nails done, read a book, go hiking, spend time with friends, etc.. For me, it’s running - running keeps me sane. 3- Stick to work hours. Set work hours and stick to them. It is too easy to get sucked into work with it being so easily accessible. I try not to schedule sessions on weekend (unless it is unavoidable) as that is our only uninterrupted time together as a family.
