was sold to Honig. Earlier, it had gone to Charles Krug. During the growing season, Marge came to “pick lunch,” as Phoebe expressed it, in the vegetable garden nearly every day. The Honorable Mike Thompson honored Bruno in the House of Representatives on Thursday, February 13, 2003 for his “outstanding contributions to America’s wine industry and his community.” Bruno was then 83. On June 12, 2003 Phoebe wrote, “Helped Bruno sucker vines. Bruno said he’d never seen the vines growing so fast. I said, from all the rain? That, or all the good care, Bruno replied.” In 2004, he gave up farming for his health and strength had begun to decline. Bruno died in 2010. Phoebe’s original drawings and a copy of her journal are now part of the Napa Valley Wine Library Collections. ■
